The HP HyperX OMEN 16 can deliver standout CPU performance, but that verdict applies to a specific configuration: the 16-ap1931nr with AMD’s Ryzen 9 9955HX3D and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. Notebookcheck’s results put this processor near the top of the laptop CPU comparisons shown in its review tables. They do not establish a universal ranking, and they are not results for every laptop sold as an OMEN 16.
Which HP HyperX OMEN 16 configuration is this review about?
The performance figures below are for Notebookcheck’s HP HyperX OMEN 16 16-ap1931nr review unit, equipped with a Ryzen 9 9955HX3D and RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. That is the configuration to keep in mind when judging the CPU results.
OMEN 16 is a family name, not a single fixed specification. For example, HP’s India store lists a separate 16-ap1096AX model with a Ryzen 9 9955HX, without the “3D” suffix in its processor name. Do not assume that model has the same CPU, graphics, benchmark performance, or other parts as the 16-ap1931nr. Before buying, match the full model number and the CPU and GPU to the listing for your country. HP India’s 16-ap1096AX listing

How fast is the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D in the tested OMEN 16?
Notebookcheck’s comparison tables report these results for its 16-ap1931nr sample. They are reviewer test scores for that specific laptop configuration, not guarantees for other OMEN 16 models.
#1 Best Overall
- Newest Generation Intel Core Ultra 7 255H Processor
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Graphics Card
- 16" 2K FHD+ (1920x1200) 400-nits, 100% sRGB, 165Hz, IPS Non-Touch Display
- 16GB DDR5-5600 RAM, 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD
- Backlit Keyboard, Gigabit LAN, 2x2 WiFi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.4, Windows 11
| Benchmark | Result | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Cinebench R20 multi-core | 14,209 points | CPU performance across multiple cores in a rendering workload |
| Geekbench 6.7 multi-core | 19,418 points | Combined CPU performance across multiple cores in a range of workloads |
| Geekbench 6.7 single-core | 3,159 points | CPU performance using a single core |
These scores support calling the tested Ryzen 9 9955HX3D highly competitive in the listed CPU tests. They are not a direct measure of game frame rates, and they do not show how the laptop compares in every workload or under every power, cooling, or firmware setting. The CPU’s benchmark standing alone also cannot tell you whether this is the right gaming laptop for your preferred games: graphics performance, display behavior, noise, sustained power, and price matter too.
Notebookcheck’s review and comparison tables are the source for these results. Use the benchmark names and model number when comparing them with scores from another laptop; results from different tests or configurations are not interchangeable.

Does the strong CPU make it a good gaming buy?
The tested machine pairs the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D with an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, so the CPU result describes one part of a gaming system, not its complete gaming performance. The available benchmark figures do not establish game frame rates at a particular resolution or graphics setting. Nor do they establish display specifications, fan noise, chassis temperatures, battery life, weight, upgrade options, or port selection for this exact sample.
Tom’s Guide describes a separate review unit as the HyperX OMEN 16 Valorant Edition with an RTX 5070, an AMD Ryzen 9 processor, and 32GB of RAM. Its page lists $3,049 for that reviewed unit. Treat that as a review-era, unit-specific price—not a current offer, a confirmed price for the 16-ap1931nr, or a price that applies in every country. The available description does not identify that unit’s processor as the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, so do not transfer the Notebookcheck CPU scores to it. Tom’s Guide’s Valorant Edition review

What should you check before choosing an OMEN 16?
- Confirm the exact model. Read the complete SKU, not just “OMEN 16” or “Valorant Edition.” Check that the CPU and GPU match the configuration you intend to buy.
- Match the evidence to the hardware. The three scores in this review belong to the 16-ap1931nr with Ryzen 9 9955HX3D and RTX 5070 Laptop graphics. They are not results for the separate HP India 16-ap1096AX with Ryzen 9 9955HX.
- Verify the details that affect your use. Check the regional listing for display resolution and refresh rate, memory and storage, warranty, and current price. The available results do not establish those details for the title-matched review sample.
- Compare gaming evidence separately from CPU scores. Look for frame-rate results from the exact configuration at settings close to how you play, plus information on sustained performance, noise, and temperatures. The listed CPU benchmarks cannot answer those questions.
What do OMEN AI, Unleashed Mode, and the HyperX name mean?
HP presents OMEN AI and Unleashed Mode as performance features on its India product page. That describes HP’s feature positioning; it is not independent validation of a particular performance gain on the 16-ap1931nr or on every OMEN 16. HP India’s OMEN 16 product page
HP’s branding context connects OMEN and HyperX, but a shared brand does not mean that every OMEN generation or configuration uses the same parts or performs alike. HP Personal Systems Gaming Solutions president Josephine Tan described the branding effort this way: “Gamers deserve a seamless experience that matches their passion, from the systems that power their worlds to the gear that connects them,” HP’s announcement. That is corporate brand messaging, not an independent performance finding.

Verdict: Is the HP HyperX OMEN 16 worth buying?
The 16-ap1931nr is compelling if your priority is a high-end laptop CPU: its Ryzen 9 9955HX3D posts strong results in Notebookcheck’s Cinebench R20 and Geekbench 6.7 tables. Whether the laptop is a good buy for you depends on the exact regional SKU and its current price, as well as gaming results and practical details that these CPU scores do not resolve. Verify those particulars on the listing before comparing it with other machines.
