XRP treasury companies can influence the market in two linked ways: buying XRP creates demand at the time of execution, and retaining the tokens can reduce the amount readily offered for sale. Neither mechanism guarantees a price increase. The result depends on purchase size, execution method, market liquidity, financing, custody terms, later transfers or sales, and broader XRP demand and sentiment.
What an XRP treasury company is
An XRP treasury company is a business that holds XRP as a corporate asset rather than acquiring it solely to resell it immediately. Its balance may be funded with operating cash, a share issuance, debt, a private placement, or another financing arrangement. The company might hold XRP directly, use a custodian, pledge it as collateral, lend it, or move it between wallets and investment vehicles.
That definition matters because a press release can describe an intended allocation without proving that the purchase occurred. A company may announce a target, raise capital, and still be waiting to execute trades. Analysis should therefore separate an announced plan from verified XRP held on a stated date.

Start with XRP’s supply structure
XRP’s original issuance was 100 billion tokens. A February 20, 2025 Federal Register notice described approximately 62 billion XRP in circulation and approximately 38 billion XRP in escrow at the time of that notice. Those are historical figures from that notice, not a current October 2026 market total.

Escrow changes when XRP can be accessed; it does not increase the original 100-billion issuance ceiling. Ripple says XRP in its on-ledger escrow is inaccessible to it until scheduled monthly releases. XRP released but not used is returned to escrow, according to Ripple’s Q1 2025 Markets Report.

Ripple also says it can transfer XRP to third parties, including exchange-traded products, trusts, and other investments, while expecting those tokens to remain part of its holdings. A transfer is therefore not automatically a market sale. The relevant question is whether the recipient is expected to sell into the broader market and when.
How treasury purchases affect XRP demand
Buying creates demand at execution
When a company purchases XRP, its order consumes available sell offers on one or more venues. The immediate demand effect depends on the order’s size relative to order-book depth, the number of venues used, the execution period, and whether the buyer uses an over-the-counter transaction, an exchange, or a broker.
A large order executed quickly can move quoted prices more than the same amount divided into smaller trades over a longer period. An over-the-counter transaction may reduce visible exchange impact, but it still requires a seller and can alter subsequent liquidity. The available evidence does not establish a universal price response for XRP treasury purchases, and no reliable percentage increase should be inferred from the existence of a purchase.

Holding can reduce immediately tradable availability
If a company keeps purchased XRP in treasury, those tokens may not be offered for routine sale during the holding period. This can reduce the immediately tradable float available to other market participants. The effect is an availability inference, not proof of permanent removal from circulation: treasury policy can change, and a balance can later be transferred, pledged, lent, or sold.
“Out of circulation” is therefore imprecise. XRP in a corporate wallet remains part of the issued supply. It may simply be less available on the market at that moment. A company can also use a custodian or a financing arrangement that leaves the tokens economically exposed to a lender or counterparty, so the wallet balance alone does not reveal how much supply is genuinely unavailable for sale.
Financing changes the path from announcement to ownership
Equity issuance can fund an XRP purchase but may dilute existing shareholders. Debt can preserve equity ownership while adding interest, collateral, and repayment risk. A private placement or convertible instrument can produce different timing and selling restrictions. The financing method affects when cash becomes available, how quickly XRP can be acquired, and whether the company may need to sell XRP later to meet obligations.

Later transfers or sales can reverse the effect
A treasury balance can support scarcity only while the tokens remain unavailable for ordinary selling. If the company sells, moves XRP to an exchange, releases collateral, or distributes tokens, the direction of the supply effect can change. A sale adds supply to the market; a transfer to another long-term holder may not.
Investors should ask whether the XRP is encumbered, lent, pledged, subject to lockups, or immediately saleable. A headline figure such as “X million XRP held” does not answer those questions.
Why a purchase does not guarantee a higher XRP price
Price is formed by many buyers and sellers, not by treasury activity alone. A purchase can occur while price falls if broader selling pressure is larger. Conversely, price can rise without treasury buying when market-wide demand increases.

These categories are identified as relevant factors in the SEC-filed annual report for the Grayscale XRP Trust. The reviewed material does not provide a peer-reviewed numerical estimate of how much a treasury-company purchase changes XRP’s price.

Escrow releases are not the same as market sales
A scheduled escrow release changes the amount of XRP that Ripple can access under the escrow arrangement. It does not prove that Ripple sold the released tokens. Ripple’s stated practice is to return unused released XRP to escrow, and its reported “XRP Held by Ripple” can include transfers to third parties that it still expects to remain within its holdings.
For supply analysis, distinguish three events:
- Release: XRP becomes accessible to Ripple under the escrow schedule.
- Transfer: XRP moves to another wallet, trust, exchange-traded product, or investment vehicle.
- Sale into the market: XRP reaches buyers through a transaction that increases market supply available to purchasers.
Only the third event clearly represents a market sale. A release or transfer may affect expectations and future availability without immediately increasing exchange supply.
How to evaluate an XRP treasury claim
Use a dated, evidence-based checklist rather than relying on a headline balance.

Determine whether the company announced an intention, completed a purchase, or reported a verified balance.
- Record the date. Holdings from a 2025 report cannot be presented as a current October 2026 balance without a newer disclosure.
- Identify the acquisition route. Note whether XRP was bought on an exchange, through an over-the-counter block, from an issuer, or through another arrangement.
- Measure the balance correctly. Separate XRP owned directly from XRP controlled through a trust, fund, affiliate, or custodian.
- Check financing. Document equity issuance, debt, convertibles, or other funding and note any dilution or collateral obligations.
- Check availability. Ask whether tokens are locked, pledged, lent, rehypothecated, or otherwise restricted from sale.
- Look for subsequent movement. Review filings and wallet disclosures for transfers, sales, distributions, or changes in custody.
- Compare with liquidity. A token amount has more potential market impact when it is large relative to the venues and time period used for execution.

Three practical scenarios
Long-term accumulation
A company buys gradually, discloses the completed amount, keeps the XRP unencumbered, and does not need to sell it to fund operations. Demand occurs during purchases, while the retained balance may reduce near-term sell-side availability. The market effect still depends on the size and pace of buying compared with overall trading activity.

Financed purchase with future obligations
A company raises debt or issues securities to buy XRP but must later service debt, satisfy collateral requirements, or meet investor redemption terms. The initial purchase can add demand, yet forced or planned sales may add supply later. The financing documents are as important as the initial acquisition announcement.
Announced target that is not completed
A company announces that it intends to allocate a specified amount to XRP, but no filing or custody evidence confirms execution. There is no basis for counting the target as current demand or treasury supply reduction. The correct description is an announced plan pending verification.
What enterprise treasury software shows—and what it does not
On April 1, 2026, Ripple announced that Ripple Treasury launched Digital Asset Accounts and Unified Treasury. Ripple described the platform as allowing XRP and RLUSD balances to be visible and manageable alongside cash. This demonstrates an enterprise software use case for managing digital-asset balances; it does not prove that any particular public company has accumulated XRP, nor does it establish a sector-wide holdings total.
Renaat Ver Eecke, Ripple’s senior vice president of Ripple Treasury, said: “Digital assets have arrived at the CFO’s desk, and the question has shifted from whether to engage to how to do so advantageously without disrupting existing operations.” The statement describes a treasury-management perspective, not a forecast for XRP’s price.
Limits of using treasury balances as a market signal
- Balances are snapshots. A reported amount can change immediately after the reporting date.
- Ownership is not always liquidity. Pledged or lent XRP may appear in a balance while being unavailable to sell—or exposed to a counterparty’s actions.
- Sector totals may be incomplete. Public disclosures do not necessarily capture private companies, affiliates, custodians, or indirect exposure.
- Price impact is nonlinear. The same dollar amount can have different effects in calm, liquid markets and stressed, thin markets.
- Correlation is not causation. A price rise after an announcement may reflect broader sentiment, speculation, or unrelated market news.
The Grayscale XRP Trust’s SEC-filed report states that the trust held 131,223,200.0749 XRP on December 31, 2025. That is a dated trust balance, not a measure of XRP treasury companies as a sector and not a current October 2026 total.
A disciplined way to answer “Will this company make XRP go up?”
First, establish whether the company bought XRP and how much. Next, estimate whether the execution was material relative to the liquidity available on the relevant venues. Then determine whether the tokens remain held and unencumbered. Finally, examine financing, broader market conditions, escrow expectations, regulation, adoption, and XRP Ledger activity. If any of those facts are unknown, the defensible conclusion is conditional rather than a price prediction.
The strongest evidence supports a mechanism: completed buying adds demand, and continued holding can reduce immediately tradable availability. It does not support a fixed price target or a universal percentage effect. Every conclusion should carry the balance date, source, custody status, and whether the figure represents an executed purchase or only an announced plan.
