Xbox Rewards points are Microsoft Rewards points earned through eligible Xbox play, quests, purchases and other Microsoft activities. You can exchange them in the Rewards catalog for options such as Xbox Gift Cards, sweepstakes entries, charitable donations and selected Store-use redemptions. There is no universal cash rate: Microsoft says points have no cash value, and an approximate example is 5,000 points for something worth $5. Your actual offers, prices and availability depend on your country, Rewards level, account and the catalog shown when you are signed in.
What Xbox Rewards points are
Rewards with Xbox is part of Microsoft Rewards. Points accumulate in your Microsoft Rewards balance rather than becoming a separate Xbox currency. The Xbox Rewards hub shows the activities currently available to your account, while the Rewards catalog shows what you can redeem.

Eligibility is activity-specific. Simply owning a console, playing any game or buying any item does not automatically generate points. A game, quest, purchase or search must qualify under the offer’s rules, and limits can vary by country or region. Xbox and Microsoft can change activities, caps and catalog inventory, so the signed-in Rewards page is the authoritative source for your account.
How you earn points
Xbox quests and eligible play
Xbox lists daily, weekly, monthly and limited-time quests. Some require you to play eligible games for a stated amount of time; others ask you to complete a particular in-game or service action. Gameplay-based Rewards can be available on Xbox consoles, PC, handhelds and other supported devices, but the exact quest list and requirements depend on the market and membership status.

Open the Xbox Rewards hub before playing and read each quest’s completion condition. A quest may require a minimum play period, a specific title or another qualifying action. Completing the action is not the same as receiving points automatically: follow the hub’s claim or check-in instruction when one is displayed.
Microsoft Store purchases
Qualifying purchases of games and add-ons through the Microsoft Store can earn points. The item, buyer’s market, membership tier and promotion determine whether a purchase qualifies. Subscriptions and other excluded products should not be assumed to earn points merely because they are sold through the Store.
Bing and daily Microsoft activities
Microsoft Rewards also identifies Bing searches, quizzes, trivia and other daily activities as possible earning routes. These offers have country-specific methods and daily limits. The Rewards dashboard shows which activities are enabled for your account and how many completions remain.

Limited-time promotions
Promotional quests and bonuses can appear for a limited period. Read the start and end dates, required platform and any purchase or membership condition. A promotion that appears for one member or market may not appear for another.
A practical earning routine
- Sign in to the Rewards hub. Confirm that the account and region are the ones you normally use for Xbox and Microsoft Store purchases.
- Review the daily and weekly cards. Note the exact game, playtime, search, quiz or purchase requirement rather than relying on a general point estimate.
- Check tier-only quests. Premium and Ultimate members may see quests that are not available to regular members.
- Complete the qualifying action. Use the platform named in the offer and meet its full requirement.
- Claim or verify completion. Return to the hub and confirm that the quest changed to completed and that the points were added.
- Check the catalog before planning a redemption. Point costs and available rewards can change, so saving for a reward that is no longer listed is risky.
What you can redeem
Xbox gives the following examples on its Rewards information page. They illustrate the type and scale of offers, not a promise that every account will see the same denominations.

Other catalog choices may appear, including additional gift cards, sweepstakes or charitable options. Microsoft notes that some gift cards are not always available. If an option is missing, it may be out of stock, restricted in your region or temporarily removed.

How to redeem points
- Open the Microsoft Rewards page while signed in. Use the account that earned the points and the region where that account was created.
- Select a reward from the catalog. Read the denomination, point cost, restrictions and any expiration language before confirming.
- Complete verification. Microsoft may require a mobile or landline phone number for authentication. VoIP numbers are not accepted for this purpose.
- Confirm the redemption. Check the displayed point deduction and delivery method before submitting.
- Inspect Rewards order history. The order record shows whether the redemption is completed, pending, failed or otherwise unavailable.
Xbox Gift Cards are intended for eligible Microsoft Store purchases and, under Xbox’s terms, must be used within 90 days of redemption. Microsoft says account balance can generally pay for digital Microsoft Store downloads and, where offered in that market, Xbox, Surface and accessories. Hardware availability and eligible products differ by region; do not assume that every gift-card balance can buy every item.

How much are Xbox Rewards points worth?
Points do not have a fixed cash exchange rate. Microsoft Support states: “Microsoft Rewards points don’t have any cash value. It usually takes about 5,000 points to redeem something worth $5.” Xbox gives a similar current example: 5,000 points for up to a $5 Xbox Gift Card.
Treat the $5 figure as an approximate illustration, not a guaranteed conversion. The redemption page can assign a different point cost because of local currency, your Rewards level, the denomination selected and the specific offer. A sweepstakes entry or donation also provides a different kind of value from Store credit, so comparing every reward as if it were cash can be misleading.

Why your account may show a different rate
- Market currency: Microsoft prices offers for the country or region attached to the account.
- Rewards level: Membership status can affect earning and redemption terms.
- Denomination: A larger or smaller gift-card amount may use a different points ratio.
- Inventory: A promotional or discounted option can disappear or be replaced.
Do the points expire?
Microsoft Support says Rewards points expire after 12 months without earning activity. Earning activity resets the inactivity period, but you should not rely on an old balance indefinitely. Sign in periodically and complete a qualifying activity if you intend to keep accumulating points.
Gift-card promotional balance has separate terms. A card redeemed from Rewards can have an expiration period or other conditions that are different from the 12-month inactivity rule for unredeemed points. Read the offer’s terms and the balance details after redemption.

Eligibility, age and region rules
Age and market availability
Xbox describes gameplay Rewards as available to players aged 18 and older and only in selected markets. Microsoft Rewards availability, daily limits and individual activities also vary by country. A friend in another region may therefore see different quests or prices even when both accounts use the same console.

Use the account’s home region
Microsoft instructs members to redeem in the region where the account signed up. Do not use a VPN or proxy to disguise your location. Location mismatches can trigger verification failures, remove offers or prevent a redemption from completing.
Phone verification
Redemption authentication requires a mobile or landline number rather than a VoIP number. Microsoft can also limit how many accounts use one number. If a code fails, request a new code and enter the latest one exactly as sent.

The tier figures are program limits and eligibility descriptions, not guaranteed cash returns. Xbox says local currency, Rewards level and market terms still apply. Do not subscribe solely to earn points unless the membership already fits your gaming needs; unused quests and avoided purchases produce no extra value.
Why a redemption can fail
- Wrong region: The account is traveling or configured for a different market. Return to the account’s sign-up region and avoid VPN or proxy use.
- Verification problem: The code is incorrect, expired or sent to an unsupported VoIP number. Request a fresh code and use a mobile or landline number.
- Phone limit reached: Microsoft may restrict how many accounts can verify with one number.
- Reward unavailable: A gift card or other item may be out of stock or removed. Microsoft Support says it cannot predict when a gift card will return.
- Insufficient or changed balance: A quest may not have posted yet, or the catalog cost may have changed. Check the balance and order history before trying again.
- Offer restriction: The reward may require a minimum purchase, exclude subscriptions or be limited to a single eligible item.
Use Rewards order history to see the status of a submitted redemption. Keep the order details if you need support, and do not repeatedly submit a transaction while the first one is still pending.
