In Tom’s Guide’s two-month trial, reviewer Mike Prospero found that the Segway Navimow i215 made mowing substantially less hands-on, but it did not get every lawn boundary right on its own. At a corner with a drop-off, it repeatedly nosedived off the edge until he redrew the app map to exclude a few inches. The practical lesson: wire-free setup still calls for checking the mapped perimeter against the actual yard.
What the two-month trial found
Prospero’s review, published August 26, 2026, describes a positive but qualified experience: the i215 reduced the hands-on work of mowing, yet needed a boundary correction at one problem corner. This was one reviewer’s use on his own lawn, not a controlled comparison or a guarantee of how the mower will perform on another property. Read the Tom’s Guide review.
Does the i215 need a boundary wire?
No perimeter wire or separate tower was part of Prospero’s setup. He placed the charging base and connected the mower through the Navimow app. The app let him either map the yard automatically or manually drive the mower around its perimeter. That avoids installing a boundary wire, but it does not eliminate setup: the base needs a suitable location, and the resulting map needs to match the lawn’s edges.

At one corner with a drop-off, the mower repeatedly went over the edge. Prospero redrew the boundary to exclude a few inches of that corner; after the change, he says it rarely strayed. That experience makes edge inspection an important part of setup, especially where grass meets a drop, retaining edge, or other abrupt change in level. A map that looks plausible in the app may still need adjustment at a real-world boundary.

Is the i215 the right size for your lawn?
Segway recommends the i215 LiDAR for lawns up to 1,500 m². Its manual separately lists approximately 426 m² of mowing area per charge and about 160 minutes of typical mowing time per full charge. These are manufacturer figures, not results measured in Prospero’s trial; actual suitability also depends on the shape of the mowable area and how it is divided.
Compare the recommended area with the grass the mower can actually reach, rather than the total size of a property. Separate lawn sections, narrow passages, and edges that must be excluded can affect how practical the layout is. The available review account does not establish the tester’s yard dimensions or provide a measured cut-quality score, so it cannot show how quickly the i215 would cover a particular lawn.

How should you assess slopes and drop-offs?
The i2 LiDAR manual specifies a maximum incline of 45% inside the working area and 25% at the boundary. Those are different limits: the higher internal-area figure should not be treated as an assurance that the mower will handle an equally steep edge. If your lawn has a slope that ends abruptly, assess the boundary separately and make sure the mapped working area excludes any unsafe or unsuitable edge.

What specifications and upkeep should you consider?
Segway’s i2 LiDAR manual lists a 22 cm cutting width, a 2–7 cm cutting-height range, and a 59 dB(A) sound power level for the model series. Check the manual for your region before relying on those specifications. Segway’s product page also lists a blade assembly accessory for the i2 LiDAR family; confirm that a replacement part is specifically compatible with the i215 and available in your region before ordering. The product is not maintenance-free simply because it mows autonomously.

Who is likely to benefit most?
- Potentially a good fit: a lawn within Segway’s recommended area where you can place the charging base appropriately and inspect or edit the app map.
- Needs careful setup: a yard with drop-offs, sloped boundaries, divided sections, or narrow connections between lawn areas. Check the map and boundary conditions rather than relying on an internal slope rating alone.
- Not established by this review: performance on every lawn type, a quantified assessment of cut quality, or detailed handling of obstacles. The two-month account does not provide enough evidence to promise those outcomes.
