Waze police alerts start with drivers who report a police sighting from the app. Other Wazers can react to that report, and those reactions influence how long it remains visible. An alert is therefore a time-sensitive community signal—not confirmation that an officer is still at the location, and not a guarantee that every sighting has been independently verified.
You can submit a report through the in-app report menu or, where supported, with Waze’s Talk to report voice feature. Categories, voice availability and some screen labels vary by country and platform.
What a Waze police alert actually is
Waze describes itself as a community-based traffic and navigation app. Drivers contribute observations while traveling, and Waze combines those reports with other service data to inform routes and other drivers. A police alert is one of those user-submitted observations.
The practical implication is that an alert represents what a Wazer reported at a particular time and place. It does not establish that the vehicle is still there when you arrive, that the report came from an officer or official agency, or that Waze has confirmed it. A report can be useful while still being incomplete, outdated or mistaken.

- An incident that nobody reports may not appear in Waze.
- Visibility changes as other Wazers react.
- Country-specific categories and feature availability can change what you see.
How do Waze police alerts work?
1. A driver submits a sighting
A driver opens Waze’s report control, chooses Police and submits the observation. In some locations, Waze offers more specific choices such as Mobile camera, Hidden or Other side. Those choices are not universal; the categories shown depend on location and the version of the app or integration.
Waze instructs users to report only incidents they see in real time and to report as close to the actual incident as possible. That timing matters because a stationary patrol, traffic stop or camera enforcement point can change before another driver reaches it.
2. The report appears to other Wazers
Once submitted, the report can be shown on the map and to drivers approaching the area. The username of the person who submitted it appears on the map report, so a report is not anonymous to other users.

Wazers can react to the report. A helpful reaction indicates that the report still appears relevant; a Not there reaction indicates that the reported item is no longer present. Waze says that a report is displayed for a period that changes according to how many Wazers react. Selecting Not there reduces the remaining time that the report is displayed.
Waze does not publish one universal expiration time for consumer police reports. Treat the alert as a changing snapshot, not as a fixed-duration warning or an accuracy certification.
4. The alert disappears or becomes less useful
As reports age, conditions change or enough users indicate that the item is gone, the report may stop appearing. A report can also become irrelevant even before it disappears—for example, if traffic conditions move the patrol or you are traveling in the opposite direction.

How do I report police on Waze?
Use the report menu only when doing so is safe. If you are driving, keep your attention on the road and use a passenger, a voice command or a safe place to stop rather than manipulating the screen in motion.

- Open Waze while connected to the service.
- Tap the app’s report control.
- Select Police.
- Choose an available detail, such as Mobile camera, Hidden or Other side, if Waze presents those options in your location.
- Submit the report as close as practical to the place where you observed it.
Report what you can actually see. Do not submit a location based on an old message, a guess or a warning received elsewhere. The visible username attached to the report is another reason to check the location and category before sending.
Can I report a police sighting by voice?
In supported countries and configurations, Waze’s Talk to report feature lets you describe an observation in everyday language. Waze gives “There’s a police officer up ahead” as an example. The feature may ask follow-up questions before submitting the report.
Availability is not universal. Waze says Talk to report may be unavailable in some countries and is not supported on Android Automotive. Do not assume that a voice command works identically through every vehicle system, phone connection or regional app build. Check whether the Talk to report control is present in your Waze interface before relying on it.

How do I remove a wrong report?
If a police marker is still visible but the officer, vehicle or camera is no longer there, open the report and tap Not there. Waze says this reduces how long the report remains displayed. It is the documented correction mechanism for drivers viewing an inaccurate or outdated report.

How much confidence should you place in an alert?
Consumer-facing interpretation
Use a police alert as situational information. It can help you remain attentive to the road and posted speed limits, but it is not permission to speed, evade law enforcement or make abrupt maneuvers. The report may be old, incorrectly categorized, on the opposite carriageway or already cleared.
Community reactions improve the signal over time, but they do not establish that every alert was independently checked before appearing. A thumbs-up means another user found it useful; it is not a police confirmation.
Separate partner-feed scoring
Waze’s partner-data documentation describes technical fields for alerts delivered through partner feeds. Those fields should not be confused with scores that ordinary drivers see in the app.

These ranges and the removal threshold describe partner-feed data fields. Waze does not say that every consumer police alert displays those numbers or follows that exact threshold. They should not be presented as an overall police-alert accuracy rate.
What happens when your connection drops?
Waze’s general overview says an active data connection is needed for full functionality and that users cannot report hazards while disconnected from Waze’s servers. The police-report instructions describe a narrower case: if connectivity is lost while you are submitting a report, the report may be saved and submitted after the connection returns.
That workflow is not a promise of complete offline navigation or guaranteed offline reporting. If the report matters, wait for the app to reconnect and verify that the submission has completed when it is safe to do so.

Privacy and public attribution
The username of the reporting user is visible on the map report. Consider that public attribution before submitting. Avoid including personal details, vehicle descriptions that identify an individual, or commentary unrelated to the observable event.

Because reports are community contributions, submit only information you observed yourself and only while you can do so without distraction. A passenger can operate the app; otherwise, pull over legally before interacting with the screen.

No one reported the sighting
Waze can only display a community report when someone submits one. A patrol or traffic stop that nobody noticed or reported may not appear.
The report is stale
Police activity is mobile. Even a correctly placed report can be outdated by the time you reach it. The changing display period and Not there feedback are designed to reduce stale information, not to eliminate it instantly.
The location or direction is wrong for your route
Check whether the report concerns the opposite side of the road or a nearby parallel route. The Other side option, where available, exists because direction affects whether an alert is relevant to you.

One country may expose subcategories that another does not. If you cannot find Mobile camera or Hidden, that may reflect regional configuration rather than a malfunction.

Voice reporting is unavailable
Talk to report can be restricted by country, platform or vehicle integration. Android Automotive is specifically excluded in Waze’s help information. Use the standard report menu when it is safe and available, or wait until you can stop.
A safe routine for using police alerts
- Keep your focus on driving and obey posted limits regardless of whether an alert appears.
- Use a passenger or a voice feature supported by your setup to submit observations.
- Report only what you see in real time and as close to the incident as practical.
- Choose the most accurate category offered in your location.
- When an alert is clearly outdated, tap Not there rather than adding an unverified replacement.
- Treat every alert as time-sensitive community information, not an official instruction.
Frequently asked questions about Waze police alerts
Does Waze verify every police report before showing it?
No public Waze help information establishes that every consumer report is independently verified before it appears. Reports begin as community contributions and are refined by reactions.
How long does a police report stay on the map?
There is no universal public duration. Waze says display time changes with Wazer reactions, and a Not there reaction reduces the remaining display time.
Are police alerts official law-enforcement notices?
No. They are driver-submitted observations. They should never replace posted signs, traffic rules or directions from law enforcement.
Can I see a reporter’s identity?
The submitting user’s Waze username appears on the map report and is visible to other users.
Are the reliability and confidence scores visible in the app?
The documented 0–10 reliability and -1–5 confidence ranges belong to Waze’s partner-feed data explanation. Waze does not state that ordinary drivers see those scores for every in-app police alert.
