KingSmith’s two treadmill designs tackle home storage differently: its Vertical Fold models are built to fold and stand upright, while its Foldable Classic models keep a familiar treadmill shape and fold the deck for storage. The distinction is the storage geometry—not a guarantee that every model has the same speed, incline, or approved storage position.
How the two designs differ
| Series | Storage design | Company-described development | What to verify by model |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vertical Fold | A double-fold deck is designed to stand upright when stored. | KingSmith identifies the X21, launched in 2021, as the series’ beginning. The company says the folded X21 takes less than 2 sq. ft. (0.2 m²) of floor space; this is a manufacturer-reported figure, not an independent measurement. | Approved storage position, folded dimensions, locking or support mechanism, speed, running area, handrail configuration, and weight capacity. |
| Foldable Classic | A traditional treadmill form with a deck that folds for storage; upright storage support depends on the exact model. | KingSmith says G1 and G2 established the format. The company describes the G5i, added in 2026, as bringing powered incline to this foldable-deck arrangement. | Whether the model supports vertical storage, folded dimensions, speed, running area, incline, handrails, and weight capacity. |
These are KingSmith’s product-history descriptions. They explain the company’s product evolution, but do not independently establish category-wide “first” claims.
How KingSmith describes the product evolution
KingSmith’s history groups its WalkingPad formats into four milestones: Just Walk in 2016, Hybrid in 2019, Vertical Fold in 2021, and Foldable Classic in 2026. These dates and the format history are the manufacturer’s account.

The company identifies the X21 as the first Vertical Fold model, launched in 2021. Rather than simply folding the running deck flat, its double-fold design is meant to let the treadmill stand upright. KingSmith says the folded X21 occupies less than 2 sq. ft. (0.2 m²) of floor space.

In its history article, KingSmith describes later Vertical Fold models across a range of speed ratings: X208 at 5 mph, X210 at 6.5 mph, X212 (formerly X21) at 7.5 mph, X214 at 8.5 mph, X216 (formerly X16 or X25) at 10 mph, and X218 at 11.5 mph. Model names, versions, and specifications can vary by market, so treat that list as the company’s historical account rather than a current purchasing comparison.
Foldable Classic: keeping the familiar treadmill form
KingSmith says G1 and G2 established the Foldable Classic format: a more traditional treadmill whose deck folds after use. The company also reports that the line expanded into U.S. Costco stores. Its 2026 history article says the G5i added 18% powered incline while retaining a foldable deck.

How to choose a model for running and storage
WalkingPad’s FAQ identifies X Series models and the G5i as running-capable, but suitability depends on the exact model and the user’s needs. It points shoppers to maximum speed, running area, handrails, and weight capacity; the comparison should also account for incline and available exercise and storage space.
- Set your use case. Decide whether you need walking, jogging, or running, and check the exact model’s maximum speed rather than relying on the series name.
- Check the running surface and support. Compare running-area dimensions, handrail configuration, and weight capacity with your requirements.
- Measure both spaces. Allow for the treadmill’s exercise footprint and its folded dimensions. For vertical storage, confirm that the exact model is approved to stand upright and review its support or locking instructions.
- Compare incline and extras. Incline, app compatibility, and included accessories vary by model. Verify them on the exact product page and in the manual.
- Confirm the regional version. Model naming and specifications can vary. Use the product page for the market where you will buy rather than assuming an identically named model has identical features everywhere.
WalkingPad’s FAQ gives the X21 and X218 as speed endpoints at 7.5 mph and 11.5 mph, respectively. Those examples are not a substitute for checking the current specification of a specific model.

Which models can be stored upright?
WalkingPad’s FAQ says Vertical Fold models such as the X21, X214, X25, and X218 are designed for upright storage. It also says the G5i supports vertical and flat storage. Those examples do not establish that every model in either series—or every WalkingPad treadmill—can be stored upright.

Before storing a treadmill vertically, follow the specific model’s product page and manual. Check the approved position, folded dimensions, any locking or support mechanism, and the safety instructions. Do not assume that a deck that folds can also be stood upright.

App, noise, and safety-key details vary
App features
The official FAQ describes KS Fit as a free official app, but says compatibility and features vary by model. Optional third-party services such as Kinomap may require a paid membership. Check the exact model’s compatibility before choosing based on an app feature.
Noise and floor vibration
WalkingPad says noise depends on the model, speed, user weight, flooring, and maintenance. A treadmill mat may help reduce vibration and impact noise; check that its dimensions fit the treadmill and the available floor area.
Replacement safety keys
Safety keys are model- and version-specific, and WalkingPad says compatibility across brands cannot be guaranteed. Match the full model name and accessory compatibility information instead of relying on a connector that looks similar.
