AI in travel is already doing more than answering traveler questions. Documented deployments show it analyzing airline calls, helping employees query business data, handling customer service, guiding bookings, tailoring offers and processing corporate expenses. The examples below show what each system does, who uses it and what its reported results mean.

Where AI fits into travel operations

These seven deployments cover different jobs rather than competing versions of one product. Some AI systems help staff interpret data or improve service; others interact directly with travelers or automate back-office work. Their reported results come from vendor-published customer stories, not a common independent evaluation, so the figures should be read in the context given by each source.

Organization Primary workflow and user What the system does Reported evidence
Jet2 Customer-service analytics; service and data teams Analyzes pre-travel call transcripts for intent and sentiment About 2,000 calls daily, or 25% of that service line’s calls, according to Snowflake’s Jet2 case study.
TUI Internal analytics; employees Lets users ask questions of data in natural language and search metadata More than 500 complex natural-language queries answered during early user-acceptance testing, according to Snowflake’s TUI case study.
Ryanair Customer support; passengers Answers questions about baggage, refunds, bookings and disruptions AWS reports 10 million answers generated, 120,000 daily answers, 94% accuracy and a 70% reduction in contacts per passenger carried; see AWS’s Ryanair case study.
Vernost Travel discovery and post-booking service; customers and staff Recommends holidays and supports reservations, loyalty rewards, ticket downloads, changes and cancellations The company’s chief business officer says customers save at least 60% of the time needed to find and book a suitable holiday package, as reported in AWS’s Vernost case study.
Air India Customer support; passengers AI.g answers travel questions and escalates to human support when needed Microsoft reports an average of 30,000 questions per day and nearly four million queries handled, with 97% fully automated, in its 2024 Air India customer story.
Sabre and Virgin Australia Travel commerce and trip planning; travelers and travel sellers Supports personalized offers and conversational trip planning Sabre and Google Cloud describe product claims of up to 10% higher ancillary revenue and up to 20% higher upgrade revenue in the Sabre case study.
Yatra Corporate travel and expense processing; business travelers and finance teams Scans receipts and supports travel searches through its DIYA assistant Google Cloud reports receipt-scanning latency fell from 20 seconds to 3–4 seconds and expense-log automation for more than 6,000 firms in its Yatra case study.

How airlines use AI for customer service

Jet2: analyzing calls to improve service

Jet2 uses Snowflake Cortex AI with a fine-tuned Mistral model to analyze call transcripts for customer intent and sentiment. Snowflake says the deployment took three months and processes about 2,000 pre-travel service calls daily—25% of calls on that line. The case describes analysis that can inform service improvements; it does not say the model answers or resolves those calls. Jet2’s Technical Delivery Manager for Data Science & Machine Learning, Niraj Kulkarni, credited collaboration with Snowflake’s account team for helping the use case reach production quickly. The case page does not state a publication year.

Ryanair: answering passenger questions

Ryanair’s customer-service assistant addresses subjects including baggage, refunds, bookings and flight disruptions. AWS says Ryanair tested five foundation models against 12,000 production customer questions. In that evaluation, the selected model reduced reported response time from 18 seconds to 2.9 seconds and improved accuracy by 25%. AWS says the service launched in October 2024 and, at the time of its case study, had generated 10 million answers and handled 120,000 customer answers per day. The same case reports 94% accuracy and 70% fewer customer-service contacts per passenger carried. These are AWS case-study figures; they are not independently audited comparative results. The page also describes an architecture update in February 2026.

Air India: combining automation with escalation

Air India launched AI.g in May 2023 to answer questions about bookings, flight status, baggage, check-in, loyalty awards and lounge access. The assistant can hand a customer to human support when needed. Microsoft’s 2024 customer story says AI.g averaged 30,000 questions a day across 1,300 topic areas and had handled nearly four million queries, with 97% fully automated, as of that story. Air India also describes document scanning for web check-in and voice analysis to support contact-center quality and training—separate uses from the customer-facing assistant.

How AI supports travel booking and trip planning

Vernost: from recommendations to routine booking tasks

Vernost built customer and staff chatbots and agents using AWS services. The described customer functions span personalized hotel, destination and flight discovery; reservation guidance; applying loyalty rewards; and post-booking tasks such as downloading tickets, changing reservations and canceling. That range connects recommendations to follow-through rather than stopping at a list of options. Vernost chief business officer Himanshoo Patil says customers save “at least 60 percent” of the time required to find and book the right holiday package. That is his reported estimate in AWS’s case study, not a measured cross-customer benchmark.

Sabre and Virgin Australia: conversational commerce

Sabre launched its SabreMosaic AI-powered travel platform in 2024. Google Cloud’s case study describes Sabre IQ as supporting personalized offers and SabreMosaic Concierge IQ as a conversational trip-planning product first adopted by Virgin Australia. Sabre’s Santiago Larrazabal described a familiar booking constraint as “the tyranny of the five boxes”: origin, destination, departure, arrival and number of travelers. The case also states product claims of up to 10% higher ancillary revenue for Ancillary IQ and up to 20% higher upgrade revenue for Upgrade IQ. Those are Sabre/Google Cloud claims about specific products, not expected gains for travel businesses generally.

TUI: letting employees query data in natural language

TUI’s Technology Analytics Companion, or TACO, uses Cortex Analyst so users can ask questions about data in natural language; Cortex Search makes metadata searchable. Snowflake reports that more than 500 complex natural-language queries were answered during early user-acceptance testing. TUI’s broader data platform supports analytics such as flight and hotel occupancy optimization and personalized travel offers. The reported query count is from early testing, not a published measure of sustained production usage.

How companies use AI to automate travel expenses

Yatra applies Google Cloud AI to expense processing as well as its DIYA travel assistant. Google Cloud says receipt-scanning latency dropped from 20 seconds to 3–4 seconds and describes expense-log automation for more than 6,000 firms. Yatra chief architect and data scientist Dr. Shakti Goel says its use of Gemini 3.0 improved interpretation of whether a traveler is exploring options or ready to book, with precise responses and sub-second performance. That is a company-reported description of the assistant’s performance, not an independent benchmark.

Yatra’s case also discusses a planned convergence of travel and expense assistants and future proactive disruption handling. Those are plans, not capabilities established as already deployed in the story. The distinction matters when assessing what an organization can use today.

What these deployments show—and what they do not

  • AI’s role varies by workflow. The examples include transcript analysis, internal data access, direct customer support, booking assistance, offer optimization and expense processing.
  • Automation does not always mean no human involvement. Jet2’s system analyzes calls rather than resolving them, while Air India describes escalation to human support. The other case studies describe varied levels of assistance and automation.
  • Data and system connections are part of the work. The deployments touch call transcripts, metadata, customer questions, booking and loyalty tasks, travel offers, receipts and expense logs. Air India and Yatra describe enterprise connections as part of their deployments.
  • Reported metrics are not directly comparable. The cases measure different things—response latency, accuracy, query counts, automation rates, customer contacts, revenue claims and receipt-processing time—and do not establish a common measurement method.

All seven examples are vendor-published customer stories. Their figures are useful as descriptions of reported deployments, but the sources do not provide independent cross-company verification or a controlled comparison. They also do not establish an industry-wide adoption rate or prove that similar results will apply at another airline, travel company or employer.
