To wishlist an upcoming game, sign in to the platform account you use for purchases, open the game’s own store listing, and select the wishlist control shown there. Steam and Microsoft Store explicitly support unreleased listings; PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop show the option only for titles, regions, and storefront surfaces that support it. A wishlist records interest, while a pre-order is a separate purchase decision.
What a wishlist does—and what it does not do
A wishlist is a saved list of games you may want to buy. It keeps the title easy to find and, where the platform supports it, can trigger release or discount notifications. Adding a game does not buy it, reserve a copy, unlock a pre-load, or guarantee that every future price change will produce an alert.
Pre-ordering is different. A pre-order is a purchase commitment made before release and can have separate payment, cancellation, refund, and automatic-download rules. On PlayStation, for example, a pre-order may enable automatic downloading before launch, while simply wishlisting the same game does not.

If you cannot see a wishlist button, check that you are signed in, confirm that you opened the official product listing rather than a search result or news page, and consider that the publisher or platform may not have enabled wishlisting for that title.

Steam: add an unreleased game and manage alerts
Add the game
- Sign in to Steam in the desktop client or at the Steam store in your browser.
- Search for the announced game and open its dedicated store page. An upcoming game can have a page even when it is not yet purchasable.
- Select Add to your Wishlist. Steam Support describes this control as appearing on the left side of a game’s storefront page.
- To review your list later, choose Store and then Wishlist. You can reorder entries or remove games from the client or browser.
The wishlist can therefore hold a game before its release date or before a purchase button appears. The listing still controls what information you see: a developer can change the announced date, supported languages, editions, or regional availability after you add it.
Check Steam notification settings
Valve says that players who wishlist a game can automatically receive a notification when it releases or goes on discount. In practice, delivery depends on a verified email address, your account preferences, the mobile-app notification settings you have enabled, and Valve’s notification limits. Review both your Steam email preferences and mobile notification settings rather than assuming that adding the title alone enables every channel.

- Release alert: sent when the wishlisted game launches, subject to Valve’s eligibility and notification rules.
- Discount alert: sent when the game goes on discount; the message is not a promise that every small or regional price change will generate a separate alert.
- List maintenance: use Store → Wishlist to remove games you no longer want or change their order.
If the Steam button is missing
- Make sure you opened the store page, not a community hub, announcement, or search preview.
- Sign in again if the page shows a generic sign-in prompt.
- Check whether the title is hidden, delisted, or restricted in your country.
- Try the desktop client and a browser; a temporary surface-specific display problem can affect one but not the other.
PlayStation Store: wishlist controls and pre-orders
Add an announced game
- Sign in with the PlayStation Network account you use for purchases.
- Search PlayStation Store for the announced title and open its product page.
- When the page provides a wishlist control, select it. Depending on the console, website, app, and region, the control may appear as a heart icon or the words Add to Wishlist.
- Return to the same account’s wishlist area to confirm that the title was saved. If you use more than one PSN account, verify that you added it to the account that receives your purchase notifications.
PlayStation’s interface is not identical everywhere. A control visible on the web may be positioned differently on a console, and a title may expose different actions in different countries. The absence of a heart or Add to Wishlist label is not proof that the game is unavailable on every PlayStation surface; check the game’s current listing and your region.

Do not confuse wishlist and pre-order
PlayStation identifies an upcoming game’s release information through its Store listing. If the page offers Pre-order, choosing it starts a purchase workflow separate from wishlisting. Sony’s support guidance explains that searching for a game on PlayStation Store shows its release date and that pre-orders can be set to download automatically before release. Automatic download requires the relevant console settings and does not occur merely because the game is on your wishlist.

Notifications on PlayStation
Check the notification controls on your PlayStation console and any PlayStation app you use. The available switches and the events that generate an email or push alert can differ by region, account, and app version. Treat a wishlist as a tracking aid, not as a guaranteed alert service: revisit the listing if the release date is important, and verify that notifications are enabled on the device where you expect to receive them.
When you cannot add the game
- Confirm that the product page is for the correct edition and region.
- Try the web Store if the console page does not show the control, or the console if the web page is not displaying correctly.
- Look for a release date or pre-order option. Some announced titles have information pages before all purchasing and wishlist features are enabled.
- Keep in mind that a title’s page, release date, and pre-order window can change as the publisher updates its launch plan.
Xbox and Microsoft Store: wishlist a public pre-release listing
Add the game
- Sign in with the Microsoft account linked to your Xbox profile.
- Open the game’s Microsoft Store listing from Xbox, the web store, or another supported Store surface.
- Select Add to wishlist. Capitalization and exact placement can vary.
- Open your wishlist afterward to confirm that the title appears under the same Microsoft account.
Microsoft documents wishlisting for publicly visible Store products, including products configured for pre-order or a future release. This means an upcoming game can remain in your list even though the purchase button is not active yet. The listing must be public; an unannounced, private, delisted, or region-blocked product cannot be added through the normal Store page.

Understand Xbox sale alerts
Microsoft’s Store documentation says that simultaneous wishlist discounts may be consolidated into one system toast and one email rather than producing a separate message for every discounted game. Consequently, a single alert can represent several titles. Enable Store or wishlist sale alerts in Xbox notification settings if you want price-change messages, and check the account’s email address and Microsoft notification preferences as well.
Fix common Microsoft Store problems
- No button: open the full product page and sign in; a search card may not expose wishlist actions.
- Wrong list: confirm that the browser, Xbox, and Store app use the same Microsoft account.
- No alert: review both Xbox notification switches and Microsoft email preferences. A consolidated alert may be easy to miss if multiple games changed price together.
- Regional mismatch: Store availability, currencies, release dates, and pre-order eligibility can differ by country.
Nintendo eShop: title-specific wishlists and pre-orders
Add an upcoming game
- Sign in to the Nintendo Account connected to your console, or open Nintendo eShop in your region.
- Search for the upcoming game and open its product page.
- Select Wish List when that control is available.
- Check the wishlist later from the same Nintendo Account; switching accounts on a shared console changes which list you see.
Nintendo states that not all games are available to pre-order from Nintendo eShop. Pre-order eligibility is title-specific, so an announced game may have a product page and a Wish List control without offering a Pre-order button. A missing pre-order option does not necessarily mean the game will not launch; it can mean that Nintendo or the publisher has not opened pre-orders for your region or that the title is not eligible for them.

Turn on Nintendo Store app notifications
If you use the Nintendo Store app, enable the notification categories that matter to you. Nintendo identifies options for releases, sales, upcoming events, and Wish List items. Device-level permissions can still block delivery, so allow notifications for the app in your phone’s operating-system settings as well as inside the app.
Recheck near launch
Release dates, pre-order windows, regional availability, and edition details can change. Open the listing again as launch approaches, especially if the game has no fixed date or if you added it before Nintendo published final pricing. The page is the authoritative place to see what your account and region can currently do.

A reliable cross-platform workflow
- Use the correct account. Sign in before searching so the platform can save the title to your personal list.
- Open the product page. Do not rely on a search tile, trailer page, or publisher announcement; wishlist controls live on the storefront listing.
- Read the release information. Note whether the date is fixed, estimated, or absent, and whether the listing is for the edition and region you intend to buy.
- Select the wishlist control. Look for Add to your Wishlist, Add to Wishlist, Wish List, or a heart icon, depending on the service.
- Confirm the saved state. Reopen the wishlist or look for a changed button such as Remove from Wishlist.
- Configure notifications separately. Enable email, mobile, console, or Store-app alerts and allow device-level permissions.
- Revisit before launch. Verify the date, price, edition, pre-order status, and regional availability instead of assuming the original listing is unchanged.
Troubleshooting checklist
- The game is announced but cannot be found: search the exact title and check spelling, platform edition, and region. A publisher announcement can precede a public storefront page.
- The listing exists but has no wishlist control: try another supported surface, such as the web Store instead of the console app. The title or region may not support wishlisting.
- The game appears on the wrong account: sign out and verify the account identity before adding it again. Family consoles and shared browsers commonly retain another user’s session.
- The release date changed: treat the product page as current. Wishlisting does not lock the original date.
- No notification arrived: check verified email, notification permissions, spam or filtered folders, regional eligibility, and platform limits. A wishlist is not a guarantee of a message for every event.
- You expected a pre-load: confirm that you actually pre-ordered and that automatic-download settings are enabled. A wishlist alone never starts a download.
- You expected a pre-order button on Nintendo eShop: Nintendo explicitly says that not all games are available to pre-order; continue using the Wish List control and check the listing later.
