To wishlist an upcoming PC game on Steam, sign in to the Steam account you use for gaming, open the game’s public store page, and select Add to your wishlist. Keep the game on that account’s wishlist through launch. Steam says wishlisted users can receive an email and/or Steam mobile push notification when the title becomes available in Early Access or at full release.
How to wishlist an upcoming game on Steam
The wishlist is attached to your Steam account, not to a particular computer. You can add a title in a web browser, the desktop client, or the Steam mobile app, then check the same list from any of those places.
- Sign in to the correct Steam account. Use the account that should receive the release alert. If several people use the same computer, confirm the account name before continuing.
- Open the game’s public Steam store page. You can reach it through Steam search, a developer’s store link, or a browser bookmark. The page must be the actual store listing for the game, not a community hub, news post, or search result for a similarly named title.
- Choose Add to your wishlist. The control appears on the store page while you are signed in. After selecting it, Steam changes the control to show that the game is wishlisted.
- Verify the entry. In Steam, hover over Store and choose Wishlist. Steam Support documents this path for opening the list after signing in. Find the game in the list and confirm that it is attached to the account you intend to use.
- Leave the game wishlisted until the relevant event. Steam’s release notification is tied to users who have the game on their wishlist when it releases. Removing it before launch can therefore remove your eligibility for that release alert.
If the button is missing, make sure you are on the game’s store page and signed in. A title that has not yet received a public Steam store listing cannot be added through the normal wishlist control.

Where to find and manage your Steam wishlist
Desktop client or web browser
Sign in, open the Store menu, and select Wishlist. The list shows games associated with your account and gives you the controls needed to remove titles or open their store pages. You can also open a game’s store page directly and use the wishlist control there.

Steam mobile app
Sign in to the Steam mobile app with the same account. Use the app’s Store and wishlist area to confirm that the game is present. The app is also the place where mobile notifications may appear, provided notifications are enabled both inside the app and in your phone’s operating-system settings.
Why the account check matters
Wishlists do not transfer between Steam accounts. If you add a game while signed in to a family member’s account, the alert belongs to that account. Switching devices does not create a problem, but switching accounts does.
Will Steam tell you when a wishlisted game releases?
Steamworks documentation says that when a game releases in Early Access or as a Full Release, users who still have it wishlisted at that time receive an email and/or mobile push notification about the game being available. That is the documented release trigger.
The notification is not a promise that Steam will send a reminder before the scheduled release date. A store page can display an expected date, but the documentation describes an alert when the game becomes available, not a guaranteed advance warning. For date changes, delays, demonstrations, and earlier announcements, follow the developer or publisher’s official communication channels.
What Steam can notify you about
Release into Early Access
If the developer launches the title in Early Access and you have it wishlisted at that moment, Steam documents an email and/or mobile push notification that the game is available. Early Access is therefore treated as a release event for this purpose, even if the developer plans a later full launch.
Transition from Early Access to full release
Steamworks also states that another email is sent to users who still have the game wishlisted when it transitions from Early Access to full release. Keeping the title on the wishlist matters for this later notification as well.
Qualifying discounts
Steam’s notification guidance says wishlisted games can generate email or mobile-app notifications when they are Daily Deals, Midweek Deals, or Weekend Deals. Steamworks lists conditions for a qualifying discount notification:

- The discount must be at least 20% off.
- The lowest-priced package must be discounted.
- The discount must last for more than eight hours.
These are policy thresholds for qualifying notifications, not a guarantee that every price change will generate an alert. A brief sale, a discount that applies only to a higher-priced package, or a reduction below the stated threshold may not qualify.
Email versus mobile push notifications
Steam may use one or both channels. The practical difference is where you look and which account settings must be correct.

A wishlist page is a status check rather than a separate delivery channel. It confirms whether the title is still attached to the account, while email and mobile push are the channels Steam documents for event notifications.
How to make sure release alerts can reach you
Verify the Steam email address
Steamworks says customers must have a verified email account to receive email messages. In your Steam account settings, confirm that the address is current and complete any verification request Steam has sent. If you changed addresses, verify the new one rather than assuming the old verification carries over.

Steam’s notification guidance says users can opt out of email or turn off mobile notifications. Review those preferences before launch. A game can be correctly wishlisted and still produce no visible alert if the relevant channel has been disabled.
Enable phone permissions
For push alerts, check both layers of permission: the Steam mobile app’s notification options and the phone’s operating-system notification permission. Also check Do Not Disturb, Focus, battery-saver, and notification-summary settings if your phone delays or hides background alerts.
Keep the app signed in
The mobile app must be associated with the same Steam account whose wishlist contains the game. If you have multiple accounts, confirm the account name in the app instead of relying on a device that was previously used by someone else.

Check both destinations
When a release occurs, inspect the Steam mobile notification feed and the email inbox. Search spam, junk, Promotions, and other filtered folders for Steam messages. Looking in only one channel can make an alert appear to be missing when it was delivered through the other.
Why a Steam wishlist notification may be missing
The game was not wishlisted at the trigger time
Release eligibility is based on the wishlist state when the game releases. Open Store > Wishlist and confirm that the title is still present. If it is absent, check whether you removed it, whether a different account is active, or whether you are looking at a filtered view.
The email address is not verified
An unverified account email can block email delivery. Verify the address in Steam’s account settings, then use mobile push as an additional channel if you need a phone alert.
Notifications were disabled
Steam allows users to opt out of email and disable mobile notifications. Re-enable the relevant preference, and check the phone’s own permission screen. Changing only one of these settings may not restore push delivery.
An email cooldown applies
Steamworks says customers who were notified about an app ID within the previous two weeks may be placed on an email cooldown. If the game has generated another qualifying event recently, a new email may not arrive immediately even though the wishlist and address are correct.
High-volume delivery is delayed
Steamworks also notes that high-volume periods can delay delivery. Major sale events and busy launch windows can produce a gap between the release event and the message. Check the store page and your wishlist directly rather than waiting indefinitely for the email.
The event did not qualify
A price change is not automatically a notification event. Discount alerts have the documented 20% minimum, lowest-priced-package, and more-than-eight-hour conditions. A developer announcement or a revised date likewise does not constitute the documented release trigger.

The game launched under a different store listing
Confirm that the wishlisted title is the same app that became available. A renamed project, bundle, demo, playtest, or separate edition may have its own store listing. Open the original wishlist entry and compare its store page with the release announcement.
A reliable launch-day checklist
Use this checklist before an anticipated launch and again if no alert appears:
- Sign in to the intended Steam account.
- Open Store > Wishlist and confirm the game is listed.
- Confirm the account has a verified, current email address.
- Review Steam email and mobile notification preferences.
- In the Steam mobile app, confirm the same account is signed in.
- Allow Steam notifications in the phone’s operating-system settings.
- Check spam, junk, filtered folders, and the mobile notification feed.
- Allow for the documented two-week email cooldown and possible high-volume delays.
- Open the store page manually to see whether the game is available in Early Access or full release.
What Steam does not promise
Steam’s documented behavior is narrower than a general release-calendar service. It covers availability when a wishlisted game enters Early Access or full release, a further message when an Early Access game reaches full release, and qualifying deal notifications. It does not establish a guaranteed reminder days or weeks before launch, an alert for every date change, or an alert for every price movement.
If you need advance notice of a specific date, use the developer’s or publisher’s official announcements in addition to the Steam wishlist. Treat those announcements as a separate source of information: the Steam wishlist remains the account-based trigger for the availability notification.

Use the wishlist as the source of truth
When you hear about a game elsewhere, add it from its Steam store page and immediately verify it in the wishlist. This creates one place to audit upcoming releases, rather than relying on browser tabs, notes, or memory.
Remove titles deliberately
Removing a game keeps the list tidy, but it also means the title is no longer present for the documented wishlist-based release trigger. If you still want a launch alert, leave it listed until the relevant release event has passed.

An alert can be delayed by cooldowns or high volume. On the expected launch day, open the store page and wishlist directly. This manual check is the fastest way to distinguish a delivery delay from a postponed or not-yet-available release.

Use both channels for important launches
Email gives you a searchable record; mobile push is easier to notice in real time. Enabling both does not change the release condition, but it gives you two places to find the message when Steam sends it.
Frequently misunderstood cases
“I wishlisted the game, so I should get a reminder before launch.”
Not necessarily. The documented trigger is availability in Early Access or full release. Steam does not guarantee an advance reminder before the scheduled date.
“The game entered Early Access, but I was waiting for 1.0.”
Steam treats the Early Access launch as a documented release event. If the game remains wishlisted through the later transition, Steamworks says another email is sent when it reaches full release.

Check whether the discount met all three documented conditions: at least 20% off, the lowest-priced package discounted, and a duration longer than eight hours. Then check your notification preferences, email verification, spam folders, and the two-week cooldown.
“I saw the game on my wishlist in a browser, but the app showed nothing.”
Confirm that the browser and mobile app use the same Steam account. The wishlist is account-based, while mobile delivery additionally depends on the app being signed in and permitted to send notifications.

Bottom line for Steam users
Add the game from its public Steam store page while signed in, verify it under Store > Wishlist, and keep it there through launch. For the best chance of seeing the documented alert, use a verified email address, enable Steam email and mobile notifications, keep the mobile app signed in, and check both the app feed and filtered email folders. Steam can notify you when a wishlisted game becomes available in Early Access or at full release, but it does not promise a separate advance reminder before the announced date.
