To wipe a Conan Exiles server, stop it completely, back up its Saved data, then rename or remove the database for the active map. Exiled Lands uses game.db; Isle of Siptah uses dlc_siptah.db. On the next start, the server creates a new, empty world database.
Renaming the file is the safer choice because it preserves a rollback copy. A wipe is a destructive world reset, not an in-game administrator command, and it can remove buildings, containers, map progress and other saved world state.

A Conan Exiles server stores its persistent world in a database file. A world wipe means replacing that database with a newly generated one. The server does not need a special console command: when the expected database is absent, it creates a fresh database during startup.
The operation affects database-backed world state, including placed buildings, containers, explored map progress and other saved objects. The Linux setup guidance explicitly warns that deleting the database erases progression and saved buildings. Treat the procedure as irreversible unless you keep a separate copy of the old file.

Do not assume that characters will survive. Character level, inventory or followers may be retained in particular migration workflows, such as Funcom’s Unreal Engine 4-to-Unreal Engine 5 transition, but that behavior is not a guarantee for a normal private-server wipe. A private server’s save configuration and the files you preserve determine what can be restored.
Decide what kind of reset you need
Before stopping the server, decide whether you need a complete new world or only a targeted cleanup. Renaming the map database creates a new world while retaining an easy rollback. Permanent deletion provides no local recovery. A modded reset also requires deliberate handling of the mod files and load order.

Prepare a safe wipe
- Announce downtime. Tell players that the world, structures and progression may be reset, and wait until no one is connected.
- Confirm the active map. Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah use different database names. Wiping the wrong file leaves the running world unchanged.
- Choose a backup location. Use a dated directory outside the live save folder, such as a location labelled with the server name and the date. A backup on the same disk is useful for quick rollback but is not protection against disk failure.
- Record the current setup. Note the map, server settings, enabled mods and administrator account you will use for testing. This makes it possible to reproduce the intended configuration after the reset.
Windows dedicated server: complete procedure
1. Stop the server cleanly
Use the server panel’s stop control or stop ConanSandboxServer.exe. Wait until the process has exited before opening or copying the database. Renaming a file while the process is writing can produce an incomplete backup or leave the server pointing at a partially changed file.
2. Open the dedicated-server save directory
For a standard Steam Windows installation, open:

The Windows server configuration is under SavedConfigWindowsServer. Do not confuse that configuration directory with the database itself; the map save is directly in Saved.

3. Copy the complete save data
Copy the entire Saved directory to the dated backup location. At minimum, preserve the active database and any files named like game_backup_##.db. Keeping the complete directory also preserves configuration and other files that may be needed to diagnose a failed start.
If the server uses mods, copy ConanSandboxMods as well. A database can contain references to modded content, so a database-only backup may not be sufficient to recreate the previous state.
4. Identify and preserve the active database
Use the map table below to select the file. With the server still stopped, rename it to a dated name or move it outside Saved. For example, a recoverable Exiled Lands copy could be named game.db.before-wipe-2026-10-14. Keep the original extension if your file manager or hosting panel relies on it, and make sure the renamed file is no longer exactly the filename the server expects.

Renaming is preferable to deleting because it leaves a simple rollback copy. Delete only after you have verified an independent backup and are certain the old world will never be needed.
5. Start once to generate the new world
Start the server normally. With the expected map database absent, Conan Exiles should create a new empty database. If you want to verify the result before players return, stop the server again after it finishes starting and confirm that a new file with the expected name and a current timestamp exists.

6. Reapply settings and test privately
Restore only the settings and mods you intend to use. Log in with an administrator account, confirm that the selected map loads, and check that the starting area contains no old buildings or containers. Test a few basic actions before announcing that the server is open again.
Choosing the correct map database
The filename is the decisive check. game.db belongs to Exiled Lands, while dlc_siptah.db belongs to Isle of Siptah. If both files exist, do not rename both automatically: determine which map the server is configured to launch and reset only that map unless you deliberately maintain separate worlds.
If the old world appears after the restart, the most likely causes are that the wrong database was renamed, the server was not fully stopped, or a hosting provider restored a backup automatically. Check the active map and the file timestamps before attempting another reset.
Linux self-hosted servers
The same database principle applies on Linux. Stop the server process, back up ConanSandbox/Saved and, when applicable, ConanSandbox/Mods, then rename or remove the active map database. The Linux setup guidance specifically warns that this erases progression and saved buildings.
Use the file manager or shell tools appropriate to your installation, but operate only after the process has stopped. Preserve the old database under a distinct name or outside the live Saved directory. On the next launch, the server creates a replacement database for the selected map.

Linux installations can place the server files in different directories, so do not copy a Windows path verbatim. Locate the directory that contains your installation’s ConanSandbox/Saved folder, and verify the map filename there before changing anything.
Rented and hosted servers
Hosted interfaces vary. Use the provider’s stop control rather than deleting files while the web panel still reports the server as running. Open its file manager and locate the Conan Exiles Saved directory, or ask support to perform the reset if file access is not provided.

Download a copy of the database and the relevant Saved and Mods directories before the operation. If the panel offers a backup or snapshot feature, create one as well, but do not assume that every provider keeps snapshots indefinitely.
The documented hosted-server method is still to remove the game database so the server can create a new one. Renaming the file is safer when the panel permits it because you can restore it without waiting for provider support. Provider-specific labels, automatic-restoration behavior and backup retention are not universal; follow the controls shown in your own panel.
What the wipe removes—and what it may not
World data that is normally lost
- Player-built foundations, walls, bases and other placed structures.
- Placed containers and the items stored in database-backed containers.
- Explored map state and other world progression saved in the map database.
- Other persistent world objects stored by the game in that database.
Character data requires a qualification
Do not promise players that their characters, levels, inventories or followers will remain. Some migration procedures preserve those elements while bases and placed world items do not transfer, but that is migration-specific behavior. A regular private-server wipe can have different results depending on the save layout and what files are restored.

Configuration and mods are separate concerns
Renaming the map database does not by itself reset every configuration file. Server settings under SavedConfigWindowsServer and the contents of Mods are separate from the world database. Decide whether those should remain, be edited, or be replaced as part of the new season.

Modded servers: avoid mismatched data
Removing a mod while continuing to use an old database can leave references to content that no longer exists. The result may be startup errors, missing objects or a world that fails to load. Back up the mod directory and database together before changing the mod list.
For a genuinely fresh modded start, create the new database first, then install or enable the exact mod set you have chosen and test it with an administrator account. If you are restoring an old world, restore the matching database and mod files rather than mixing a previous save with an unrelated load order.
Rollback when the new world fails
Automatic backups are commonly named game_backup_##.db. The Conan Exiles wiki describes a rollback method that preserves the current game.db under another name, selects a known-good backup, and renames that backup to game.db. Apply the same principle to the active map file, and keep the server stopped while changing names.
Automatic saves are normally about five minutes apart, so inspect timestamps and choose a backup that predates the problem. That interval is approximate; file timestamps and the actual state of the world are more reliable than assuming a precise save time.

- Review the available
game_backup_##.dbfiles and their timestamps. - Choose the known-good copy that matches the map you are restoring.
- Rename the selected backup to the active map filename, such as
game.dbfor Exiled Lands. - Start the server and verify the restored world before reconnecting players.
If a hosted panel has restored files automatically, download the current files first and contact the provider with the relevant timestamps and logs. Do not repeatedly rename databases while the provider’s automated restore process is still running.
Troubleshooting a wipe
The old world still loads
- Confirm that the server was fully stopped before the rename.
- Check that you renamed the database for the configured map:
game.dbordlc_siptah.db. - Look for a second server installation or a different
Saveddirectory being used by the launch service. - Check whether the hosting panel restored a backup after startup.
- Inspect file timestamps to verify that the newly generated database belongs to the current launch.
The server will not load the new world
- Stop the server and restore the preserved database so players can return to the previous state.
- Review the server log for file-access, mod or map errors.
- Confirm that the database filename is exact, including the extension and spelling.
- If mods are enabled, test with the backed-up, matching mod set rather than an altered list.
- Ask the host or consult the server logs when the panel controls or installation path are unclear.
Players report missing characters or items
Do not infer that the wipe preserved character data from a migration example. Identify which files were restored, compare them with the pre-wipe backup, and roll back if the outcome is not what the server community approved.
Final verification checklist
Before reopening the server, verify each item:
- The old database is stored outside the live filename and has a date-based name.
- The complete
Saveddirectory is available in the backup location. - The
Modsdirectory is backed up when mods are installed. - The correct map database was reset.
- A new database was created after startup.
- The world contains no previous buildings or containers.
- Intended settings and mods load without errors.
- An administrator can connect and perform basic actions.
- Players have been told exactly what was reset and what, if anything, was restored.
The Bottom Line
A safe Conan Exiles wipe is a controlled database replacement: stop the server, back up Saved (and Mods when used), rename the correct map database, start and test the new world, and keep the old file until the reset is proven.
