Verify an SCP: Secret Laboratory server in four separate checks: prove that players can reach its external address and port, confirm that its configuration starts cleanly, meet Northwood Studios’ Community Server Guidelines and request Verified List placement, and inspect the server through the in-game browser before joining. A direct connection proves reachability, not official-list status; Remote Admin proves authorized administration, not Northwood verification.
What “verified” means for an SCP: Secret Laboratory server
SCP: Secret Laboratory uses several signals that are easy to confuse. A server may be running correctly while remaining absent from the public browser. It may be reachable by direct connection without appearing on Northwood’s Verified List. It may also have Remote Admin enabled without having any official-list designation.
Northwood Studios’ Community Server Guidelines, effective June 27, 2025, define the “Verified List” as the publicly available SCP: Secret Laboratory server list accessible in-game and through servers.scpslgame.com. The same guidelines state that the minimum requirement for using the service is a publicly available server. In practice, verification is a policy and listing decision made by Northwood, not a setting that can be enabled in the server console.

Layer 1: prove the server is online and reachable
Start the dedicated server and wait for readiness
Start the dedicated SCP: Secret Laboratory server and wait until its status shows that it is online or ready. Do not begin a listing investigation while the process is still loading. Record the address and port that players outside the hosting machine must use. Use the externally reachable address, not a local-only address such as an address that works only inside the host’s private network.

OmneHosting’s server documentation describes the same order: start the server, wait for the online state, note the address and port, and test a connection from a game client. The purpose is to separate a running process from a reachable service.
Test from a real client
- On a client computer, open SCP: Secret Laboratory’s server browser or its add-server/direct-connect function.
- Enter the externally reachable address and port exactly as recorded from the server host.
- Attempt to connect while the server is running and ready.
- Repeat the test from a network that is not the host’s local network when possible. A connection that works only from the same machine or home network does not establish public reachability.
- Record whether the client connects, times out, or reports a refusal. Keep the exact address, port and result for troubleshooting.
If direct connection fails, fix reachability before requesting verification. Check the host firewall, router or provider port rules, the server’s listening interface and the address being advertised. OmneHosting warns that extra ports can affect browser visibility, so do not assume that opening or forwarding one port automatically makes every required service visible.
Interpret the result correctly
- Direct connection succeeds: the service is reachable at that address and port. It may still be missing from Northwood’s public list.
- Direct connection times out: investigate routing, firewall, forwarding or an incorrect external address before changing listing settings.
- Direct connection is refused: the process may not be listening on that port, may still be starting, or may have rejected the connection.
- Local connection succeeds but external connection fails: treat this as a public-network or address problem, not as proof that the server is ready for verification.
Layer 2: check configuration after a clean restart
Restart after configuration changes
Whenever you change server settings, restart the server rather than assuming the edit was applied live. XGamingServer’s documentation specifically recommends inspecting the console after the restart. Read the complete startup output for configuration errors, failed plugin loads, binding failures or other messages that leave the process running but improperly configured.
Review what players will actually see
Compare the active configuration with the information you intend to publish:
- Advertised name: use the final name consistently so players can identify the correct server.
- Information and rules text: describe gameplay rules, moderation expectations and any unusual settings accurately.
- Contact method: provide the method players should use to report problems or ask questions, and make sure it is monitored.
- Whitelist behavior: verify whether the server is open to everyone or requires an allow-list. The browser can expose whitelist status, so the setting should match the public description.
- Plugins and gameplay options: ensure the browser’s plugin or other indicators will not contradict the information text.
Do not treat an absence of a visible console error as Northwood approval. This layer establishes operational consistency: the process starts, the intended settings load, and the public description is honest.

Keep an evidence record
Save the external address and port, the date of the successful test, the post-restart console result and the exact public-facing name and rules. This record helps distinguish a later outage or configuration regression from an unresolved verification request. It also gives Northwood’s support team concrete information if they ask how the server was tested.

Read the current Community Server Guidelines first
Northwood’s Community Server Guidelines control eligibility for the Verified List. Read the version currently in force, including any agreement that must be accepted, before contacting Northwood. The June 27, 2025 guidelines identify a publicly available server as the minimum requirement for using the service. A private or locally reachable server therefore does not satisfy that baseline.
Compliance is broader than opening a port. Make sure the operation, moderation practices, public rules and server information do not conflict with the guidelines. If the rules require an agreement or other acknowledgement, complete it before submitting a request.
Use the Safety and Compliance contact route
Northwood’s Contact Us page directs server owners to its Safety and Compliance route for server verification needs and says to make sure the server complies with the Community Server Guidelines before sending a verification request. Follow that route rather than treating a hosting provider, Remote Admin or the browser as an approval channel.
Include useful, verifiable details in the request:
- the server’s public name;
- the externally reachable address and port;
- confirmation that an external client successfully connected;
- the date of the latest clean restart and console check;
- the rules, information and contact method players see;
- whether the server uses plugins or a whitelist; and
- confirmation that the current Community Server Guidelines and required agreement have been reviewed and accepted.
Only Northwood can decide whether to place a server on the Verified List. The currently cited official material does not promise an approval or response time, so do not advertise an unverified turnaround to players or administrators.

Understand what listing can and cannot change
A successful verification request concerns Northwood’s public list. It does not replace network troubleshooting, and it does not repair an incorrectly advertised port, a failing startup or misleading rules text. Fix those operational issues first so the server remains usable if it is listed.
Layer 4: inspect the server as a player
Open the in-game server browser
The official server-list guide explains that the browser exposes server information and rules and displays indicators for Official Server, Friendly Fire, Plugins and Whitelist. Open the browser from a normal player account and locate the server by its advertised name. If it is not visible, use the direct-connect result and the troubleshooting section below to separate listing delay or eligibility from a basic network failure.
Read before joining
Select the server and inspect the information panel before connecting. Confirm that:
- the name matches the server you intended to join;
- the rules and information text are complete and readable;
- the Friendly Fire indicator matches the rules;
- the Plugins indicator matches the server’s actual configuration;
- the Whitelist indicator matches whether an ordinary player should be able to join; and
- the contact method is present and usable.
Players should read these details before joining, especially when a server uses plugins, special rules or a whitelist. A browser indicator is a disclosure aid, not a substitute for checking the server’s written rules.
Do not confuse browser labels
The browser’s indicators help players evaluate a server, while Northwood’s Verified List is the controlled public-list service. Remote Admin is a separate administration panel. None of these labels should be presented as interchangeable. In particular, Remote Admin access is not an official-list badge.

Remote Admin: what it verifies and what it does not
Remote Admin is the authorized moderator and administrator panel. It can display player information and expose server configuration controls, but use requires owner authorization. It is useful for operating a server after it is reachable: administrators can moderate players, inspect server state and manage supported controls without treating the game client as the verification authority.
Remote Admin does not establish that Northwood has accepted the server for the Verified List. An owner can have a working Remote Admin setup on a server that is privately reachable, absent from the public browser or still awaiting a verification decision. Conversely, a listed server still needs properly authorized administrators and secure Remote Admin credentials.

Administrative checks before inviting players
- Confirm that only authorized owners or moderators can access Remote Admin.
- Check that the panel reaches the intended server rather than a test instance.
- Use the panel to confirm the server state and player information, then compare it with the public browser description.
- Remove or correct stale contact, rules or configuration details before asking Northwood to review the server.
Troubleshoot the most common verification and visibility problems
The server is online but players cannot connect
- Repeat the test with the external address and port, not a local address.
- Test from a separate network to rule out a local-only route.
- Check host and network firewall rules and confirm that the server is listening on the intended interface.
- Review the startup console after a restart for binding or configuration errors.
- Verify that the address and port supplied to players are exactly the ones that passed the external test.
Players can direct-connect, but the server is missing from the browser
This result is possible and does not contradict itself. Reachability is only the first layer. Check that the server is publicly available, that required ports and browser-related settings are correct, and that the Community Server Guidelines agreement and compliance requirements are complete. Then use Northwood’s Safety and Compliance contact route to request Verified List placement. Do not claim that direct-connect success alone makes the server official.
The server appears with incorrect information
Stop the server, correct the advertised name, information, rules, contact method, whitelist setting or plugin-related description, and restart it. Inspect the console after the restart, then open the browser again as a player. If the browser still shows stale data, record the time and the exact text displayed when contacting support; do not silently describe the old listing as current.
The browser indicators do not match the rules
Treat the mismatch as a configuration or communication defect. Confirm the actual Friendly Fire, Plugins and Whitelist settings, update the public information, restart and recheck. Players should rely on the displayed indicators and written rules together, not on a promise made elsewhere.

Remote Admin works, but the owner expects a Verified badge
Remote Admin only demonstrates that an authorized administrator can use the administration panel. It does not submit a verification request, satisfy Northwood’s public-list decision or create an Official Server indicator. Complete the separate reachability, compliance and request steps.
No response time is published
Do not invent an approval deadline or promise players that listing will occur by a particular date. The cited official sources explain the requirements and contact route but do not promise a verification turnaround. Keep the server reachable and compliant while waiting, and describe its status accurately as pending if you have submitted a request.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting for verification readiness
Verification rules remain Northwood’s responsibility regardless of where the server runs. The hosting choice mainly changes who handles network and operational work.

OmneHosting’s documentation is an example of the operational sequence for online status, address/port recording and direct-connect testing. XGamingServer’s documentation is an example of the post-restart console and configuration checks. These operational instructions do not replace Northwood’s guidelines or its verification decision.
A complete owner checklist
- Reachability: the dedicated server reaches an online or ready state.
- Address: the external address and port are recorded and tested from a client.
- Public access: the server is publicly available rather than limited to a private or local network.
- Restart: the latest settings were applied through a restart.
- Console: startup output was inspected for errors after that restart.
- Public description: name, rules, information, contact method and whitelist behavior are accurate.
- Indicators: Friendly Fire, Plugins and Whitelist displays match the actual configuration.
- Guidelines: the current Community Server Guidelines were reviewed and any required agreement was accepted.
- Request: the Northwood Safety and Compliance route was used for the verification request.
- Administration: Remote Admin is restricted to authorized administrators and is not advertised as proof of listing.
- Player test: an ordinary player inspected the browser information and rules before joining.
- Claims: no approval time, Official Server status or Verified List placement is promised before Northwood confirms it.
How a player can assess a server before joining
- Find the server in the in-game browser or use the address and port supplied by the owner for a direct-connect test.
- Open the server information panel and read the rules instead of joining immediately.
- Check the Official Server, Friendly Fire, Plugins and Whitelist indicators.
- Compare those indicators with the written description and ask the listed contact if anything conflicts.
- Remember that a successful direct connection does not by itself prove Verified List placement, and Remote Admin is an administrator tool rather than a player-facing approval badge.
Bottom line
A defensible verification claim requires more than a server that starts. First prove external reachability, then restart and inspect the configuration, make the public information and indicators accurate, comply with Northwood’s current Community Server Guidelines, and submit the request through Northwood’s Safety and Compliance contact route. Finally, inspect the listing as a player. Treat Verified List placement as Northwood’s decision, and keep Remote Admin in its proper role as an authorization-controlled administration tool.
