To verify an XRP Ledger transaction, search its transaction hash, confirm that the returned hash is the one you intended to check, require validated: true, read the TransactionResult code, and—if it is a Payment—inspect delivered_amount. A transaction can be found before it is final, and a failed transaction can still be recorded in a validated ledger, so no single status label is enough.
For high-stakes transfers, repeat the lookup with the XRP Ledger’s direct xrpld tx request. The official documentation describes that direct server response as the most direct and authoritative way to obtain the transaction result; an explorer is primarily a convenient display layer.
What a verified XRP Ledger transaction actually proves
Verification answers several separate questions. Keep them separate when reviewing a transfer:
- Did you find the intended transaction? The returned transaction hash must exactly match the hash from your wallet, exchange, or payment record.
- Is the result final? Require the transaction to be included in a validated ledger. A lookup that returns data without validated status may describe a transaction that is still pending.
- Did processing succeed? Read the transaction’s result code, normally shown as
TransactionResultin the metadata. A success code such astesSUCCESSmeans processing succeeded; another code indicates a failure or a different outcome. - How much did the recipient receive? For a Payment, use
delivered_amount, not merely the requestedAmount. This matters when a payment can be partially delivered. - Which ledger contains it? Record the ledger index and, when available, the ledger hash. The index is the ledger’s sequence position; the hash identifies that ledger’s contents.
The XRP Ledger documentation puts the first two operations in the right order: “Submission and verification are two separate procedures.” A wallet’s submission message confirms that it sent a request, not that the network finalized a successful transaction.

What you need before checking
Find the public transaction hash
Copy the transaction hash from the wallet, exchange, or application that initiated the transfer. It is a public identifier, usually a long hexadecimal string. Copy it exactly; missing or transposed characters will produce a lookup failure or, worse, make you inspect a different transaction.
Do not enter secrets
An explorer or ledger API needs only public transaction information. Never paste a recovery phrase, private key, signing key, wallet password, or secret file into a search box or support form. A hardware wallet is not required to inspect a public transaction.
Know what network you are checking
Confirm that the service is querying the XRP Ledger network relevant to your payment rather than another ledger or a test environment. Network identity should be part of your review whenever the same transaction interface is used for more than one chain.

A block explorer turns ledger responses into a web interface. The names and layout differ between services, but the verification sequence is the same.
- Open the explorer’s transaction search. Use the transaction or hash search field, not an address-only page.
- Paste the complete hash. Avoid spaces and make sure the first and last characters remain present.
- Confirm the returned hash. Compare it character by character with the hash you obtained from the sending record. Do not proceed based only on a matching account or amount.
- Check validation. Look for a field or label equivalent to
validated: true. If the page says pending, provisional, or unvalidated, it is not yet a final ledger result. - Record the ledger identity. Note the ledger index and, if displayed, the ledger hash. These let you compare the page with a second source.
- Read the result code. Find the transaction metadata and locate
TransactionResult. A validated transaction with a failure code is finalized as a failed transaction; it is not a successful payment. - For a Payment, inspect delivery. Compare the destination, currency, issuer where applicable, and
delivered_amountwith the payment you intended to make.
Do not treat a familiar design, a prominent “confirmed” badge, or a high search ranking as proof that the page is authoritative. The fields above are the evidence.

Method 2: Query an XRPL server directly
When a transfer is consequential, an explorer is unclear, or two pages disagree, use the documented tx request against a direct XRP Ledger server. The official guidance characterizes direct xrpld lookups as the most direct and authoritative result path.
The request
Send a request using the transaction hash as the transaction parameter. The same method can be sent through the server interface you use; the important part is the method and the exact hash.

Validate the response in a fixed order
- Compare the response’s transaction hash with the hash in your original record.
- Require
validatedto betruebefore calling the result final. - Record
ledger_indexor the equivalent in-ledger value, and record the ledger hash if returned. - Read
meta.TransactionResult(or the response’s equivalent result field). TreattesSUCCESSas success; treat any other code according to the transaction’s documented outcome rather than assuming payment. - For a Payment, inspect
delivered_amountand compare it with the destination and currency details.
If the direct response does not yet show validation, wait for a later lookup rather than treating the submission response as proof. If it is validated but the result code is unsuccessful, the network has finalized the failure and a new payment or corrective action may be required.
How to read the important response fields

Why validation and success are different
“Found” and “validated” describe different stages. A transaction may be discoverable while it is still waiting to enter a validated ledger. Until validation is true, the ledger outcome is not final according to XRP Ledger guidance.

“Validated” and “successful” are also different. The network can include a transaction that failed processing in a validated ledger. That gives you a final record of failure, not a completed transfer. Always read the result code after checking validation.

Use delivered_amount for Payments
For a Payment transaction, first confirm that the destination account and asset match your intended transfer. Then locate delivered_amount in the transaction metadata or the explorer’s detailed view. This field records what the destination actually received.
Why Amount can mislead you
The transaction’s requested Amount is not always the same as the delivered value. Partial-payment behavior can result in a destination receiving less than the requested amount. If you use the requested field alone, you can incorrectly tell a recipient that the full payment arrived.
Check currency and issuer details
For XRP, compare the delivered numeric value with the intended XRP amount. For issued currencies, compare the value, currency code, and issuer as separate details. A matching number with the wrong asset is not a matching payment.
Ledger index versus ledger hash
A ledger index is a position in the chain, while a ledger hash identifies the contents of that ledger. The distinction matters when you compare records: ledgers on different chains can share an index but have different hashes. Use the index to locate the sequence position and the hash to confirm that two sources refer to the same ledger contents.

When an explorer and a direct server both show the same transaction hash, validation state, result code, and ledger identity, you have a much stronger cross-check than relying on a single rendered page.
What makes an explorer trustworthy?
No named public explorer is certified by the official material used for this procedure. “Trusted” should therefore describe your verification method, not a logo or a badge. Evaluate an explorer by whether it clearly exposes the evidence needed to check a transaction:
- It searches by the complete transaction hash and displays that hash on the result page.
- It distinguishes pending or unvalidated data from a validated ledger result.
- It shows the ledger index and, ideally, the ledger hash.
- It exposes the transaction result code and relevant metadata rather than only a success-colored icon.
- For Payments, it displays the actual delivered amount and asset details.
- It identifies the network being queried.
- It allows you to compare the displayed values with a direct XRPL server response.
An explorer is a presentation layer. The official documentation distinguishes direct authoritative API results from non-authoritative exported database interfaces. If an explorer’s page conflicts with a direct server response, do not resolve the conflict by choosing the more convenient display; investigate the response, validation state, and ledger context.
Explorer or direct API: which route should you use?

For ordinary monitoring, start with the explorer and verify the critical fields. For disputes, accounting, compliance records, or large transfers, preserve the hash and direct response details and perform the second lookup.

Troubleshooting common results
The search returns nothing
- Re-copy the transaction hash from the original record; a single character error is enough to fail a lookup.
- Check that the explorer or server is connected to the correct XRP Ledger network.
- Try the direct
txrequest instead of relying on one interface. - If the transaction was only recently submitted, check again later for a validated result rather than treating the absence of a final record as proof of failure.
The transaction appears, but it is not validated
It has been found, but it is not yet a final ledger outcome. Do not tell the recipient that the transfer is complete. Recheck until the response reports validation or investigate the submission with the sending service.

The transaction is validated but the result is not tesSUCCESS
The ledger has finalized a failed or otherwise unsuccessful result. Save the result code, ledger index, and hash, then follow the wallet or exchange’s recovery process. Do not infer that funds arrived merely because the transaction is visible and validated.
The explorer says success, but the direct response differs
Compare the exact hash, network, validation value, ledger index, ledger hash, result code, and payment metadata. A cached or incomplete display may explain the difference. Until the discrepancy is resolved against the direct ledger response, treat the explorer page alone as inconclusive.
The requested amount and received amount differ
Inspect delivered_amount and the asset details. If the transaction is a Payment and partial delivery is involved, the delivered field is the value to report to the recipient.
A repeatable verification checklist
- Obtain the public transaction hash.
- Search that exact hash in an explorer or submit the documented
txrequest to an XRPL server. - Confirm the returned hash matches.
- Confirm
validated: true. - Record the ledger index and ledger hash when available.
- Read
TransactionResultand distinguish success from failure. - For a Payment, verify destination, asset, and
delivered_amount. - For important transfers, repeat the check directly against an XRPL server and compare all recorded fields.
- Keep only public transaction details in your notes; never disclose signing secrets.
Following this sequence answers the practical question “Did my XRP transaction go through?” with the right level of precision: you establish whether the intended transaction is final, whether it succeeded, and what the recipient actually received.
