Verify AI-generated code exactly as you would any production change, but inspect more aggressively for plausible-looking mistakes: nonexistent APIs, invented dependencies, skipped tests, incorrect assumptions, and behavior that satisfies a test without satisfying the requirement. Start with a build and automated checks, then read the diff and tests against the acceptance criteria, architecture, security boundaries, and operational context. Use benchmarks and AI review tools as supporting evidence, never as proof that a change is safe to merge.
A reliable decision comes from several independent layers: deterministic execution, meaningful tests, static and security analysis, dependency verification, human review, and traceable approval. A green pipeline establishes only that the executed checks passed in that environment; it does not establish that the code solves the right problem or handles untested production conditions.
What verification has to establish
Verification answers two different questions:
- Does the change behave correctly under the checks that ran? Builds, tests, type checks, linting, static analysis, security scans, and dependency checks provide evidence about specific failure classes.
- Does the change implement the intended requirement safely and maintainably? A person who understands the system must compare the implementation with acceptance criteria, architecture, conventions, business logic, security assumptions, and operational constraints.
AI-generated code can be syntactically valid and still fail either question. A generated test may encode the implementation’s assumption instead of the requirement. A package name may look credible but not exist. A model may silently ignore a constraint, broaden a change beyond the task, or remove a failing test rather than fix the defect. Treat those possibilities as explicit review items, not as rare curiosities.
Build a verification contract before reading the implementation
Write the required behavior
Record the acceptance criteria in observable terms: inputs, outputs, state changes, error behavior, performance or resource limits, compatibility requirements, and security boundaries. Include what must remain unchanged. If the task involves a user workflow, define the expected behavior for valid, invalid, empty, repeated, unauthorized, and partially completed actions.

Map the existing context
Identify the current implementation, nearby tests, public interfaces, documentation, configuration, migrations, and project conventions. Note the supported runtime and library versions. This prevents a generated patch from solving an abstract version of the problem while violating local patterns or an existing contract.
Define failure evidence
Before running a candidate, decide which checks are required for this repository and what would block a merge. Include the normal build and test commands, type checking, linting, static analysis, security scanning, dependency review, and any required integration or end-to-end checks. The project’s documented commands and intended environment are authoritative; do not substitute a convenient local command that omits required stages.
Read the complete change, not the generated summary
Inspect every touched file
Read the full diff, including files the assistant did not highlight in its explanation. Confirm that each changed source file, test, configuration file, build script, migration, permission declaration, and dependency manifest belongs to the task. A small-looking feature can alter deployment behavior or access control through a configuration edit.
Recommended Free Tools
Trace control flow and data handling
Follow new branches from input to output and through failure paths. Check validation, authorization, serialization, retries, timeouts, logging, transaction boundaries, and cleanup. Look for hard-coded secrets, unsafe input handling, injection opportunities, excessive permissions, unbounded resource use, and errors that are swallowed or converted into misleading success.
Challenge assumptions
Ask which assumptions are guaranteed by the caller, database, runtime, or network and which are merely likely. Generated code often assumes a response field always exists, that a collection is non-empty, that a method is synchronous, or that a deployment has a package or environment variable that is not actually present. Compare each assumption with the project’s contracts and the exact versions in use.
Run deterministic checks in layers
1. Compile or build
Run the repository’s documented build or compile command in the intended environment. Treat warnings as review input, not as harmless noise. A successful build shows that the checked source can be transformed or linked under that setup; it says nothing about unexecuted behavior, incorrect requirements, or production configuration.
2. Execute the existing suite
Run the full relevant test suite, including unit, integration, end-to-end, contract, and regression tests that the project normally requires. Record the environment, dependency lockfile, database or service fixtures, and exact result. A partial suite can produce a misleading green result when the changed code is covered only by omitted tests.
3. Add focused tests for changed behavior
Write tests around the new or modified behavior and the regressions most likely to arise. Include normal cases, boundaries, invalid input, permission failures, timeouts, retries, concurrency or ordering where relevant, and compatibility with existing callers. Tests should be independent enough to fail when the behavior is wrong, rather than merely reproducing the implementation’s structure.

4. Run quality and security tooling
Run the project’s type checker, formatter or linter, static analysis, vulnerability scanner, and dependency checks. Review diagnostics as well as exit codes. Confirm that new packages, permissions, generated files, and build settings are included in the checks. GitHub’s review guidance recommends automating style, security, quality, and coverage checks in CI, while still requiring human review for intent and context.
5. Interpret a green run narrowly
A passing run means only that the executed checks passed with that code, test set, tool versions, and environment. It does not prove that hidden requirements are met, that production configuration matches the test environment, that security assumptions are valid, or that the tests distinguish the intended behavior from a plausible but wrong implementation.
Audit the tests as carefully as the production code
Check assertion strength
For every new test, identify the requirement it proves and the incorrect behavior it would reject. An assertion that only checks a status code, a non-empty response, or that a mock was called may pass while the returned data, authorization decision, or side effect is wrong. Prefer assertions that distinguish the correct result from nearby incorrect results.
Exercise boundaries and failure paths
Check empty and maximum-sized inputs, malformed data, duplicate requests, stale versions, missing permissions, dependency failures, timeouts, retries, and partial updates where those conditions are possible. Generated tests frequently cover the happy path while omitting the cases that expose incorrect assumptions.
Look for weakened coverage
Inspect changed tests for skipped or deleted cases, relaxed assertions, broad mocks, and fixtures that cannot occur in production. GitHub specifically advises watching for tests deleted or skipped instead of fixed and asking what functional tests are missing. A coverage report can show which lines executed, but it cannot decide whether the assertions meaningfully validate the requirement; do not adopt a universal percentage as a substitute for that judgment.
Detect implementation-shaped tests
A test that mirrors private helper calls or copies the generated algorithm can pass even after the externally visible behavior is broken. Test through the public contract where practical, and include at least one case whose expected result is derived from the requirement rather than from the new implementation.
Verify APIs, versions, and dependencies independently
Confirm every API
For each newly used function, class, option, protocol field, or runtime feature, verify that it exists in the exact library or platform version used by the project. Read the official documentation for its signature, defaults, error behavior, thread or async model, and deprecation status. Do not accept a plausible method name merely because the code compiles in a different version or because a mock allowed it in tests.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesInvestigate every new package
Check the package name, owning repository, maintainer history, release activity, transitive dependencies, license compatibility, and security status. Confirm that the dependency is necessary and that an existing project dependency cannot provide the required capability. GitHub warns that generated code can introduce suspicious or nonexistent packages and recommends checking origin, maintenance, and licensing before adoption.

Review lockfiles and supply-chain effects
Inspect lockfile changes and installation scripts, not just the manifest entry. Confirm the resolved versions, integrity data, build hooks, permissions, and network access. A dependency that is safe in isolation can introduce a vulnerable or incompatible transitive package.
Use human review to test meaning and trade-offs
Review against requirements and architecture
Ask the questions in GitHub’s official review guidance: “Does this code solve the right problem? Does it follow our conventions?” Check that the patch fits the system’s boundaries, naming, error model, observability, data model, and performance expectations. Look for broader changes that were not requested and for missing migration, rollback, or documentation work.
Use the right reviewer
A reviewer should understand the affected system and its sensitive boundaries. Add domain or security review for authentication, authorization, personal data, financial logic, infrastructure, concurrency, or destructive operations. GitHub recommends teammates for complex or sensitive changes; an automated comment stream cannot replace that contextual judgment.

Keep the generated change in ordinary commits and pull requests, with the checks, tool versions, review decisions, and follow-up fixes recorded in the project’s normal systems. The UK Home Office Engineering Guidance and Standards document SEGAS-00020, last updated 20 March 2026, requires its teams to have suitably qualified human review and approval before production, to test AI-assisted outputs before merge or deployment, and to keep them visible and auditable. Its statement that “AI tools cannot replace human judgement, understanding, ownership, or responsibility for decisions, designs, or changes made to systems” is a departmental engineering standard, not a universal legal rule.
Evidence layers and what each one can tell you

How to interpret benchmark claims
Read the evaluation design first
A benchmark score is meaningful only with its task and repository mix, test provenance and quality, runtime environment, model or tool version, number of runs, metric, and date. Compare results only when those conditions are sufficiently similar. Check whether tasks resemble your team’s work, whether tests were written independently of the candidate system, and whether the evaluation environment exposes the same language versions, services, permissions, and resource limits.
Account for underspecification and contamination
OpenAI’s February 23, 2026 analysis of SWE-bench Verified reported an audit of a 27.6% subset of problems. In that audited subset, it found that at least 59.4% of the problems had flawed test cases that rejected functionally correct submissions. That figure describes the audited subset and OpenAI’s analysis; it is not a universal error rate for all software benchmarks.
The same analysis reported that frontier models could reproduce original human-written fixes or details from problem statements for some SWE-bench tasks. OpenAI interpreted this as evidence that some evaluated problems or solutions had appeared in training, concluded that Verified scores increasingly reflected training exposure, and recommended SWE-bench Pro for future evaluation. Those are OpenAI’s findings and recommendation, not settled independent consensus.

Design an internal evaluation
- Use held-out tasks drawn from your own prior work where feasible, with sensitive details removed as needed.
- Define acceptance tests before running the candidate model or tool, including functional and regression behavior.
- Keep the task description, environment, dependencies, and scoring procedure constant across systems being compared.
- Prevent reference implementations, hidden tests, or fixes from leaking into the candidate’s context.
- Report failures and defect categories, not only a pass rate.
- Have engineers inspect a sample of results and record test defects, false positives, missed issues, and maintenance concerns.
This approach turns a benchmark into decision evidence for your environment instead of treating a public leaderboard as a deployment guarantee.

What AI code review can and cannot tell you
Use automated review as an additional pass
An AI reviewer can surface suspicious control flow, missing checks, inconsistent error handling, or security-sensitive patterns. Let it inspect the diff after deterministic checks and before final approval, and require each comment to be validated against the code and requirements. A clean result means only that the reviewer produced no actionable comment under its prompt, context, model version, and reasoning budget.
Keep operational metrics in context
OpenAI’s December 1, 2025 article described an internal deployment of its Codex cloud workflow. It reported comments on 36% of pull requests that were entirely generated by that workflow; 46% of those comments led to an author code change. The article compared that with a 53% change rate for comments on human-generated pull requests and reported that 52.7% of comments were addressed with code changes across the described deployment.
These are organization-specific operational measures, not universal reviewer accuracy or correctness rates. A code change after a comment does not prove that the comment was correct, and an unaddressed comment is not necessarily wrong.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Understand the study limits
OpenAI said its controlled inference-budget study used comments that humans had already verified. Because the evaluation began with issues humans had identified, it could not establish the correctness of novel findings without further human input. The authors also reported a faster performance decline at lower reasoning budgets for reviews of generated code than for reviews of human-written code. Treat those results as limits of that evaluation, not as a general law about every model or repository.

Hallucinated or misused APIs
Symptom: The method name looks idiomatic, but documentation or the pinned version does not contain it, or its return and error behavior differ from the code’s assumptions.
Response: Verify the symbol in the exact version, add a test for the documented behavior and failure mode, and replace it with a supported API or remove the dependency.
Ignored constraints
Symptom: The feature works in a happy-path test but violates a stated latency, data-retention, compatibility, authorization, or resource constraint.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Response: Turn the constraint into an acceptance test or explicit review check, then trace it through configuration, retries, storage, and error handling.

- 【Reduce Safety Risks】Cable tray under desk keeps all plugs away from your kids, no more worry about tripping. Using 2 holes wire tray saves extra space, helps you easily cabling and wire protection. The mesh design is not easy to accumulate dust, but avoids safety accidents caused by messy wires.
Tests that bless the wrong behavior
Symptom: New tests pass, but their expected values are copied from the implementation, mocks model an impossible production response, or important failures are skipped.
Response: Derive expected results from the requirement, use realistic fixtures, add boundary and failure cases, and demonstrate that the tests fail when the behavior is intentionally broken.
Deleted or skipped tests
Symptom: A failing test disappears, is marked skipped, or has its assertion weakened without a documented requirement change.
Response: Restore the test, identify whether the product or the implementation is wrong, and require an explicit review decision for any intentional change in contract.
Suspicious dependencies
Symptom: A new package has little maintenance history, an unclear origin, unexpected install scripts, incompatible licensing, or a name that cannot be verified.
Response: Stop the merge, verify provenance and transitive dependencies, seek an established alternative, or implement the small capability locally if that is safer and maintainable.
Over-broad changes
Symptom: The diff includes unrelated refactoring, configuration changes, permission expansion, or generated files that were not required.

A merge and deployment checklist
- The acceptance criteria, constraints, expected failures, and security boundaries are written down.
- The full diff and every touched test, configuration file, migration, permission, build script, and dependency manifest have been read.
- The documented build or compile command succeeds in the intended environment, with warnings reviewed.
- The full relevant test suite and focused regression tests pass.
- Tests contain meaningful assertions for normal, boundary, invalid, authorization, and dependency-failure cases that apply to the change.
- No tests were deleted, skipped, or weakened to obtain a green run without an explicit, reviewed contract change.
- Type checking, linting, static analysis, security scanning, and dependency checks required by the project have run.
- Every new API is confirmed in the exact runtime or library version, and every new package has verified origin, maintenance, licensing, and security status.
- A qualified reviewer has checked intent, architecture, maintainability, sensitive boundaries, and operational failure paths.
- Evidence is recorded through normal commits, pull-request review, and CI records, with the generated change identifiable and auditable.
- Any benchmark or AI-review result is reported with its task scope, version, environment, metric, date, and known limitations rather than used as a safety guarantee.
Decision rule
Merge or deploy only when the change passes the project’s deterministic checks, its tests genuinely express the required behavior, its APIs and dependencies are independently verified, and a qualified human accepts the remaining risk in context. Benchmarks can inform tool selection and AI review can find additional issues, but responsibility for correctness, security, and production impact remains with the engineering team.
