As of Rockstar’s support page last updated August 18, 2026, Grand Theft Auto VI is listed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, not PC. A page offering a “GTA 6 PC installer,” early-access executable, or free download is not an official download route established by that listing. Start from Rockstar or the official PlayStation or Xbox storefront, and verify the platform and game on the destination page before buying or downloading.
Check whether the download matches an officially listed platform
Rockstar’s current support page lists GTA VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It does not list a PC version. Check Rockstar’s current platform and version information directly, since platform availability and product details can change. The page does not establish future PC plans, and this platform check does not mean every file using the game’s name has been analyzed.

If a site, ad, video, or message offers a GTA 6 PC installer, do not run it or bypass a browser or operating-system warning. A familiar logo, convincing tutorial, filename, or polished download page is not proof of authenticity.
Verify the source before you buy or download
- Navigate independently. Type an official Rockstar, PlayStation, or Xbox address yourself, or use a saved bookmark. Do not use an ad, shortened link, social post, video description, direct message, or unsolicited email as proof that a download is genuine. The FTC advises against downloading games from unfamiliar sites or peer-to-peer file-sharing services; see its malware guidance.
- Check the destination store. Confirm that the listing is for the expected platform and edition and that the seller is the official platform storefront, Rockstar Store, or a retailer you independently trust. A copied logo or plausible-looking page is not enough.
- Match the product to your account and region. For a physical package, Rockstar says the box contains a download code, not a disc. Code redemption can depend on the platform and country of purchase; Rockstar recommends buying from a retailer in the country associated with the platform account. Check the current Rockstar product and code details before purchasing.
- Keep purchase support tied to the seller. Rockstar’s pre-order support FAQ directs PlayStation and Xbox storefront customers to the relevant platform support, Rockstar Store physical-order customers to its stated support route, and other retailer customers to the retailer.
Understand what a Windows warning does—and does not—tell you
Microsoft SmartScreen uses reputation and other signals, including information about a file’s digital signature. A “not commonly downloaded” warning by itself does not prove that a file is malicious. But that nuance is not a reason to install a file from an unverified source, particularly when the offered PC installer does not match Rockstar’s current platform listing. Microsoft explains how SmartScreen works.
#1 Best Overall
- This product contains a download code inside the box — no disc is included. Customer shipments will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load; game is playable starting November 19. Code can only be used by users holding an account for PlayStation registered to the US or Canada.
- Pre-order to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
Do not turn off protections or choose an override to install a purported game build. If you cannot verify the download’s origin and legitimate platform route, leave it unopened and delete it.
If you already downloaded or ran a suspicious file
If you downloaded it but did not open it
- Do not open it or run it again.
- Delete the file, then update your security product’s intelligence and run a full scan.
- Do not use the download page’s instructions to disable security settings or install additional software.
If you ran it or entered information
- Stop interacting with prompts from the program, especially requests for passwords or payment details.
- From another device you know is clean, change any passwords you entered or exposed. Prioritize email, gaming-platform, and financial accounts. Microsoft recommends changing exposed passwords and watching for unusual sign-ins after a scam incident; see its account and security guidance.
- Update your security product’s intelligence and run a full scan. If unwanted software persists, Microsoft describes using Microsoft Defender Offline in its Windows security and malware-removal guidance.
- If you entered payment information or sent money, contact your bank or payment provider promptly. Report suspected malware distribution to the FTC where applicable.
- If the device still appears compromised after scanning, seek professional help. The FTC recommends getting help when malware cannot be removed independently.
These are general response steps; they do not mean a particular GTA 6 installer has been tested or identified as malware.

Use only the purchase format and platform you can verify
Rockstar’s support information lists Standard and Ultimate editions, digital and physical versions, and an Ultimate Edition Upgrade. The physical version is a box containing a download code rather than a disc, and Rockstar says code use depends on platform and country of purchase. Confirm the live listing and regional terms with Rockstar or the relevant storefront before ordering.
