Start from the wallet publisher’s independently verified official website or documentation, then follow its link to the Firefox Add-ons listing. Before installing, confirm the publisher identity, examine permissions and data disclosures, and treat Firefox signing, reviews, and badges as supporting signals—not proof that an extension is safe.
1. Find the listing from an independently verified source
Do not rely on an advertisement, search-result snippet, unsolicited message, or unfamiliar website as your only route to a wallet extension. Navigate to the publisher’s official site using a bookmark you already trust or another independently verified route. From there, follow its link to the Firefox Add-ons listing.
Compare the developer name on the listing with the publisher information in its official documentation. Check whether the listing’s linked website, support details, and privacy-policy pages lead to the same publisher and match the information on its official site. If an extension is offered outside Firefox Add-ons, Mozilla advises checking the source’s authenticity and the developer’s trustworthiness before installing.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →2. Check identity and maintenance signals
Look for recent updates, working support information, and user feedback. An abandoned listing, unexplained change in developer identity, or recurring unresolved reports deserves scrutiny. Reviews can be incomplete or misleading, however, and should never outweigh a mismatch between the listing’s publisher and the wallet maker’s independently verified information.

Mozilla’s add-on badges describe review status, not wallet security. Its badge guidance distinguishes Recommended extensions, which receive manual policy-compliance review, from extensions carrying a caution label because staff do not regularly review them. A caution label alone does not establish that an extension is unsafe, and a badge—or the absence of a caution label—is not a certification that a wallet extension will protect funds.
3. Read permissions and data disclosures
Match permissions to the stated features
Read the Firefox installation prompt before accepting. For every permission, ask whether it makes sense for the wallet functions the publisher describes and whether the listing or official documentation explains why it is needed. Broad or unexplained access is a reason to stop and investigate, not a detail to dismiss because the extension is popular.

You can inspect an extension’s permissions in Firefox’s Add-ons Manager. Optional permissions can also be managed there; Mozilla explains the controls in Manage optional permissions for Firefox extensions. The prompt and available controls can vary by Firefox version.
Review collection disclosures and the privacy policy
Firefox 140 and later can show information about data collection during installation, including personal, technical, and interaction data. Read the categories shown and the extension’s privacy policy. These disclosures describe what the developer says it collects or transmits; they do not independently verify that the extension’s behavior matches that description. Cancel if the access requested or the stated data practices do not make sense to you.

Be especially cautious if a website urges you to install a site-permission add-on to change Firefox’s default security behavior. Mozilla warns that such add-ons can grant unusual access and advises: “Unless you fully trust the source, avoid installing the site permissions add-on.” See Mozilla’s guidance on Site Permission Add-ons.
4. Understand what signing and review do—and do not—show
Most Firefox add-ons must be digitally signed, and unsigned add-ons are blocked in standard Firefox release builds. Mozilla describes signing as a way to reduce risks such as hijacked browser settings, stolen information, and unwanted ads; see Add-on signing in Firefox. A valid signature means Firefox accepts the add-on’s signature. It does not establish that the publisher is the wallet maker or that the extension is safe for funds.

Mozilla says extensions submitted to Firefox Add-ons are scanned for common issues and may receive human review. Those processes still cannot guarantee complete safety. As Mozilla puts it, “neither of these processes guarantee that an extension is absolutely 100% safe.” Read its tips for assessing the safety of an extension for the limits of those checks.

5. Decide whether to install
Install only if the source, publisher identity, permissions, data practices, and support information all fit together. If an important detail conflicts or remains unexplained, do not install. Contact the wallet publisher using contact information you find independently on its official site—not a contact link supplied only by a suspicious listing or message.
Never reveal a recovery phrase or private key to test an extension. Verifying a listing’s identity and disclosures cannot establish how a particular wallet handles keys or transactions; those behaviors require separate, wallet-specific validation.
