To create a custom feed in Threads, search for a topic, open its results, tap the three-dot menu beside the search term, and choose Create New Feed. You can also add an individual profile to an existing feed from that profile’s three-dot menu. Once a feed exists, Threads lets you pin it, share it publicly, and—where the option is available—set it as the feed that opens by default.
The exact creation path comes from a November 2024 report, while Meta’s later documentation confirms public sharing, feed discovery, pinning, default-feed selection and web support. Labels and menu placement can differ by account, region, operating system and app version, so treat the names below as the current documented or reported labels rather than a guarantee that every screen will look identical.
What a Threads custom feed does
A custom feed is a saved destination for posts about an interest or from profiles you deliberately choose. Instead of relying only on the main recommendation stream, you can create a focused view for a subject such as Android, photography, football, local news or a professional field. The feed remains available after you leave it, making it suitable for an interest you return to regularly.

- Topic-based: start with a search term and build a feed around the conversations and profiles Threads returns for that subject.
- Profile-based: add particular accounts whose posts you want together, even when they cover a broader or different set of subjects.
A feed can be kept for your own use or made public so other people can view and share it. Public feeds are intended for discovery around shared interests, but making a feed public does not turn it into an editorially verified or chronological list. The posts and profiles shown still depend on Threads’ product behavior and account availability.
Create a custom feed from a topic search
The most direct setup starts with a topic. The labels below are based on the creation flow reported in November 2024; if your app uses slightly different wording, look for an equivalent option in the search-results menu.
- Open Threads and search for an interest. Use a specific phrase rather than a very broad word when you want a tightly focused feed. For example, “mirrorless cameras” is more precise than “technology.”
- Open the topic’s results. Do not stop on the initial search entry. The feed-creation command is associated with the results view for the term.
- Tap the three-dot icon beside the search term. This opens actions for the search or topic.
- Choose Create New Feed. Threads creates a saved feed based on that topic. If the command is missing, update the app, confirm that you are viewing the topic results rather than a general discovery screen, and try again later; feature availability can vary by account and rollout.
- Open the new feed to check it. Review the posts and profiles Threads has associated with the topic. If the results are too broad, create a more specific feed or add selected profiles instead of trying to force one feed to cover unrelated interests.
The reported flow does not establish that every current app build uses the same icon, wording or screen order. Meta’s official announcements confirm the existence and management of custom feeds, but do not publish one universal, version-independent screen-by-screen creation route.
Add specific profiles to a feed
Topic discovery is useful for finding conversations, but you may also want a feed that follows a known set of accounts. The reported profile workflow is:
- Open the profile you want to include.
- Tap the three-dot menu above the profile photo.
- Choose the option to add that profile to one of your feeds.
- Select an existing feed, or use the available control to create or manage a feed if your version presents one.
This is a practical way to combine a subject with trusted or especially relevant accounts. For example, a feed about mobile photography can include the topic itself plus photographers, reviewers and communities you already follow. The menu path is reported behavior rather than a promise that it appears identically on every current version, so use the profile’s action menu as the starting point if the wording has changed.
Organize feeds for everyday use
Pin a feed
Meta has said that custom feeds can be pinned to the Threads home screen. Pinning places the feed where it is quicker to reach instead of requiring you to search for it each time. The precise gesture and screen arrangement may differ between releases, but look for a pin or feed-management control in the area where your saved feeds are listed.

Choose a default feed
Meta also says that a created custom feed can be selected as the feed that opens by default. This is different from pinning: pinning makes a feed easy to access, while the default setting changes which feed appears when you open Threads. The March announcement confirming this capability does not specify a current, universal settings path, so do not rely on an exact menu sequence published for an older build. Check the feed-management or home-screen settings in your app for a default-feed control.
Use separate feeds instead of one oversized list
Several narrow feeds are usually easier to manage than one feed that mixes every interest. You might keep separate feeds for work, hobbies and local events, then pin the two you open most often. A profile can be useful in more than one feed when its posts fit multiple interests; adding it to one feed does not require removing it from another.
Make a feed public and share it
A feed is personal until you choose to make it public. Meta’s documented sharing workflow starts from the feed-management interface:
- Hold the created feed at the top of the Threads app. This long-press action opens management controls.
- Tap Edit feeds.
- Switch the feed to Public if it is not already public.
- Tap View feed to open the public version.
- Use the quote icon to post a preview, or tap Share feed to send the feed as a link or in a direct message.
A public feed is a discoverable collection, not a guarantee that every viewer sees exactly the same posts at exactly the same time. Posts can change as conversations develop, accounts post or delete content, and Threads applies its normal availability and ranking rules.
When public sharing makes sense
- Community discovery: assemble profiles and conversations around a shared subject so people can find the same starting point.
- Event monitoring: publish a feed for a recurring conference, league or local topic while it is useful.
- Professional curation: collect accounts relevant to a field without asking readers to search for every profile individually.
Before publishing, inspect the included profiles and topic scope. A public feed can be viewed and shared by people who were not part of your original setup, so avoid assuming that a private intention will remain private after the visibility switch.

Meta has described public-feed discovery through a Feeds tab on profiles. When the tab is present, open a profile, select Feeds, and browse the public feeds that profile has made available. You can pin a feed you want to revisit.

The Feeds tab and its position were described in announcement-era documentation. If your profile screen has been redesigned, look for a tab, button or feed section associated with that account rather than assuming the older placement is still present. A feed may not appear because it is private, the creator has removed it, the account or content is unavailable to you, or the feature has not reached your account.
Use custom feeds on Threads web
Threads web supports the same custom-feed concept. Meta says custom feeds appear at the top of the single-column web page in the same order as on mobile, which makes a pinned or frequently used feed available without recreating it on a computer.
The web version also offers a multi-column view. You can add and reorder columns, including custom feeds and other destinations. This layout is useful when you want several interests visible at once:
- Open Threads in a desktop browser and switch to the multi-column view if it is available.
- Add a column for each feed or destination you monitor.
- Reorder the columns so the most important topic is easiest to scan.
- Remove or rearrange columns when your priorities change.
Because web and mobile interfaces can be updated independently, a control may appear in a different location or be offered only to some accounts. The important distinction is that web displays your existing feeds; you do not need a separate feed for desktop use.
Custom feeds versus Dear Algo and Your Algo
Threads has also introduced temporary controls that ask its recommendation system for more or less of a topic. These controls are not another way to create a saved custom feed.

Meta’s described launch regions were different for the two temporary controls. Dear Algo was reported for the United States, New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. Meta’s June 2026 announcement described Your Algo as initially available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Those were launch-time geographies; availability may have expanded since then.

Use a custom feed when you want a destination you can return to. Use a temporary algorithm control when you want Threads’ broader recommendations to shift for a limited period. A temporary request does not create a named feed, preserve a list of profiles or provide a shareable feed link.

Choose between a private feed and a public feed

Start privately if you are experimenting. After you confirm that the feed is focused and useful, use Edit feeds to switch it to Public and then open View feed for the sharing controls.

“Create New Feed” is not visible
- Confirm that you searched for a topic and opened its results rather than remaining on a general search screen.
- Open the three-dot menu beside the search term, where the reported command appears.
- Update Threads and restart it if the interface is stale.
- Check the same account on another supported platform. Rollouts can differ between iOS, Android and web.
- Allow for account, region and feature-rollout differences; Meta has not published one universal creation path for every build.
The feed is too broad
Use a narrower search phrase, create separate feeds for separate interests, or add selected profiles rather than relying on a general topic. A broad term can collect conversations that are technically related but not useful for the way you actually read.
A profile cannot be added
Return to the profile and open the three-dot menu above the profile photo. If the add-to-feed action is absent, the account may not be eligible for that feature in your version, the profile may be unavailable, or the interface may have moved the control. You can still build a topic feed and inspect whether the profile appears naturally in its results.
The feed cannot be shared
Check its visibility in Edit feeds. Meta’s documented process requires switching the feed to Public, then tapping View feed before using the quote icon or Share feed. A private feed will not offer the same public-sharing options.
A public feed is not discoverable
Verify that the feed remains public and that the creator profile is available. Look for the profile’s Feeds tab rather than relying on a global search result. Discovery features and tab placement can change, and a feed may not be visible to every account or region.

The default-feed option is missing
Meta confirms that a created custom feed can be selected as the default, but its announcement does not provide a current settings route. Look in feed-management or home-screen settings, update the app, and check again. If the control is not offered, your account may not have received the rollout or the setting may have moved.
Practical feed setups
One topic, several trusted profiles
Create a topic feed first, then add profiles that consistently post useful material about that subject. This gives you discovery from the topic and a deliberate shortlist of accounts. Review the feed after a few days and remove profiles that make the stream noisy.
Separate work and personal interests
Keep professional subjects in one feed and hobbies in another. Pin both if you switch between them frequently, or make the one you open most a default if that setting is available. Separate feeds make it easier to change one interest without disturbing the other.

Build the feed privately, check the included profiles, then use Edit feeds to make it public. Open View feed and share a preview post for people who may not know which accounts to follow. Send the feed link directly to people who want a focused entry point.
A desktop monitoring workspace
On Threads web, place frequently checked feeds in separate columns and reorder them by priority. Keep a broad discovery feed beside narrower topic feeds so you can scan new conversations without losing the focused views you use for regular monitoring.
What to expect as Threads changes
Custom-feed behavior is a product feature, not a fixed protocol. The creation instructions reported in November 2024 may age faster than the underlying concept. Meta’s official materials establish that feeds can be public, shared, pinned, discovered through profile Feeds tabs, selected as a default and used on web, but they do not guarantee a permanent location for every button.
When a label or icon differs, identify the function you need—create, edit, pin, set as default, make public or share—and look in the current feed-management controls. Keep in mind that availability can vary by region, account, platform and version. The latest information summarized here was retrieved on October 13, 2026, so interface details should be checked against the current Threads app rather than treated as timeless instructions.
