To use Satisfactory’s Server Manager, open it from the main menu, add your dedicated server with its IP address and port, connect, and claim the unclaimed server by choosing a name and administrator password. After claiming, you can create or load a session, adjust server options, save, and grant administrator access to other accounts. The administrator password is separate from the optional player (join) password. If the administrator password is forgotten, stop the server and delete its matching ServerSettings.PORT.sav file, then claim the server again.

What the Satisfactory Server Manager does

The Server Manager is the in-game control panel for a Satisfactory dedicated server. It does not host the server itself; your dedicated-server process must already be running and reachable from the computer running the game. The manager stores a server entry so you can reconnect, claim an unclaimed instance, open a game session, and use administrator-only controls.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The first player to successfully connect to a new server performs the initial claim. Claiming establishes the server’s display name, administrator password, and first game session. Once the server is claimed, administrator status is associated with the player’s account rather than being re-entered for every connection.

Check the server and network details first

Confirm the game build

Guides for this feature refer to both Satisfactory 1.1 and Update 1.2. Menu labels, networking behavior, and command availability can change between builds, so check the patch notes and the documentation shipped with the dedicated-server version you are actually running. A client and server on incompatible builds may fail before the password or claim screen appears.

  • [Games need exclusions and runtimes, not malware]Some customers ask why our retro game drives can trigger Windows Security warnings. Many game files are older DLLs that Windows Defender sometimes flags as threats. They are not viruses or malware—just old or uncommon code causing false positives. We temporarily add them to the exclusion list so they aren't blocked, then re-enable Security to keep your PC protected. Many classic games also need legacy VC++ and DirectX runtimes, which modern Windows doesn't include by default. Installing them ensures compatibility and smooth play. Your safety matters to us—these are safe, standard steps for retro games.

Know which port to enter

Enter the address and port exposed by your server configuration and firewall. Port numbers quoted by community guides are not consistent, and the available evidence has not established one universal value for every release or hosting layout.

Port or service How it is described What to do
7777 The most commonly cited game port in setup guides. Use it only when your server is configured and forwarded on 7777.
15777 Often identified as a query port. Do not substitute it for the game port unless your current server instructions say to.
TCP 8888 Also appears in some dedicated-server instructions. Verify its purpose for your exact build before opening or entering it.

The Server Manager cannot repair a blocked firewall rule or an incorrect router forward. Test the server locally first, then expose only the ports required by the current dedicated-server documentation. If a hosting panel assigns a different external port, enter that external value rather than assuming 7777.

Have an appropriate client account

One setup guide says a licensed game client is required to claim and administer a server. That requirement has not been independently confirmed in the available official material, so treat it as a possible prerequisite and use a properly licensed client when claiming a server.

Add a server to the Server Manager

  1. Start Satisfactory and stop at the main menu.
  2. Open Server Manager.
  3. Choose the control for adding a new server entry. The exact button text can vary by game build.
  4. Enter a recognizable name for the entry, then provide the server’s reachable IP address or host name.
  5. Enter the server port. Use the configured game port; 7777 is common but is not guaranteed.
  6. Save the entry and select it to connect.

If the manager reports that the server is unreachable, check the dedicated-server process, the address you entered, the external-to-internal port mapping, and host and client firewall rules before changing passwords. A successful connection to the server’s address is required before a claim can begin.

Claim an unclaimed server

A newly started server is unclaimed. The first player who reaches it is taken through the claim flow. Claiming is an administrative setup step, not the same as joining a public session.

SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition - PC
  • Create, build and run the most realistic city you can imagine
  • Connect your metropolis with other cities you've created to form a massive region of SimCities
  • Sculpt mountains, gouge valleys, and seed forests
  • Deploy police cruisers and fire trucks to the scene
  • For 1 player
  1. Connect to the unclaimed entry you added.
  2. When prompted, enter a permanent server name. Choose a name that distinguishes this instance from any test or replacement server.
  3. Create an administrator password. Use a unique, long password and store it in a password manager; this password controls server management rather than ordinary player access.
  4. Create the first game session. Select New Game to start a world or choose the import/load option for an existing save, if the build presents one.
  5. Finish the claim and wait for the session to load. Reconnect through the saved Server Manager entry to confirm that the server name and session are retained.

Only the first successful claimant should perform these steps. If another person claims the server, that account becomes the initial administrator; changing the display name later does not transfer ownership of the account that was granted administrative access.

Understand administrator and player passwords

Satisfactory uses two different access concepts. Confusing them is a common reason players believe a password is broken.

Credential Purpose Default state and effect
Administrator password Authorizes privileged server controls. Set during the initial claim. It protects loading a save, changing Server Options, and creating a new game.
Player (join) password Restricts ordinary players from joining. Optional and not enabled by default. It does not grant administrator privileges.

A player can therefore be allowed to join without being an administrator, and an administrator can still need to enter the join password if the server owner has enabled one. Keep the two values distinct when documenting access for friends or a community.

Create, load, and change a game session

After the server is claimed, the administrator controls which world is active. The claim flow creates the first session, while later management can load a saved session or start another one through the administrator controls.

  1. Connect with the account that has administrator status.
  2. Open the server’s management controls rather than the ordinary player list.
  3. Choose the save-loading control to select an existing server save, or choose the new-game control to create a separate session.
  4. Confirm the selection and allow the server to finish loading before asking other players to reconnect.

Loading a different save changes the world presented to everyone on the server. Treat new-game creation as destructive to the active session unless you have verified that the current world is saved and backed up.

Manage additional administrators

Administrator status is remembered per account. Once you are an administrator, use the server’s access controls to grant administrator access to other trusted players. Give ordinary players the join password, if one exists, without giving them the administrator password.

  • Grant administrative access only to accounts you trust with save loading, server-option changes, and new-game creation.
  • Remove access when a collaborator no longer needs it.
  • Do not share one account to make several people administrators; account-based access gives you a clearer audit and recovery path.
  • Keep a private record of who has administrative access and when it was granted.

Routine management and saves

Use the manager for planned changes rather than stopping the process abruptly. Before loading another save, changing important options, or restarting the host, wait for a completed save and tell connected players that the session will pause.

The manager’s administrator controls cover the core tasks documented for this feature: loading a save, opening Server Options, and creating a new game. A dedicated-server guide also lists console commands for saving and automation, but command syntax and availability should be checked against the command reference for your build before being used on a live world.

Console commands: what is documented and what is uncertain

One third-party guide lists the following names:

  • quit, stop, and exit for stopping or leaving the server process.
  • server.SaveGame for saving.
  • FG.AutosaveInterval for an autosave interval setting.
  • server.GenerateAPIToken for generating an API token.
  • server.InvalidateAPITokens for invalidating API tokens.
  • FG.DedicatedServer.AllowInsecureLocalAccess for a local-access setting.

This command list comes from a single unconfirmed source. The available evidence does not establish argument formats, required permissions, capitalization tolerance, or whether every command remains present in current releases. Do not paste guessed arguments into a production server; verify the syntax in documentation for the exact game build.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The same guide says it has no commands for kicking, banning, granting items, or teleporting players. That is a limitation of the cited command list, not proof that a future update cannot add such functions. Use the game’s current access controls and server documentation for player moderation.

Reset a forgotten administrator password

If the administrator password is lost, the documented recovery method is to remove the server-settings file that matches the server port. This is a reset of the server’s claim state, not a way to reveal the old password.

  1. Stop the dedicated-server process cleanly.
  2. Back up the server-settings file and the save directory before deleting anything.
  3. Find ServerSettings.PORT.sav in the directory above the server’s save directory. For a server using port 7777, the example filename is ServerSettings.7777.sav.
  4. Delete the file that matches the port used by the server entry. Do not delete unrelated save files.
  5. Start the server and connect through Server Manager.
  6. Complete the claim flow again by setting a server name, a new administrator password, and a new or imported first session.

Deleting this file also clears the server name, player password, automatic-load session, and certificate. Plan to re-enter those settings after the re-claim. A Q&A report says this reset is not guaranteed in every situation; if the server remains claimed, restore your backup, confirm that you stopped the correct instance, and check that the filename’s port matches the port actually in use before seeking build-specific support.

Use the HTTPS API carefully

The HTTPS API can submit a claim request with the administrator password, which makes it useful for scripted setup. The password is supplied in plaintext in the request data at the application level; protect scripts, environment variables, reverse-proxy logs, and command histories so the credential is not exposed. HTTPS protects the connection in transit when configured correctly, but it does not make a password safe to leave in logs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The API cannot reset a forgotten administrator password. Password recovery still requires the server-settings-file procedure and a subsequent claim.

Troubleshoot common Server Manager problems

The server does not appear or will not connect

  • Confirm that the dedicated-server process is running and listening on the address and port you entered.
  • Check host and client firewalls, router forwarding, and any hosting-panel port mapping.
  • Try the server’s local address from the same network before testing an external address.
  • Confirm that client and server builds match; version differences can look like a network failure.

The claim screen never appears

  • Verify that you connected to the intended instance rather than an already claimed server on the same host.
  • Make sure another player has not completed the claim first.
  • Restart the correct dedicated-server process and reconnect using the matching Server Manager entry.

The password is rejected

  • Determine whether the prompt requests the administrator password or the optional player password.
  • Check capitalization and stored-password-manager entries; the two credentials are independent.
  • If the administrator credential is genuinely lost, use the reset procedure rather than repeatedly guessing.

Players can join but cannot administer

Joining proves only that the player passed the join controls. An administrator must grant that account administrator status; sharing the player password does not grant privileged controls.

The reset did not work

Stop every server process, verify the settings file is above the active save directory, and match the filename’s port to the configured game port. Because the reported reset is not guaranteed, retain the backup and consult version-specific support if the instance still presents its old claim state.

Security checklist for a public or shared server

  • Use separate, unique administrator and player passwords.
  • Store the administrator password in a password manager instead of a chat message or startup command visible to other users.
  • Limit administrator status to named accounts and review it periodically.
  • Expose only the ports required by the current dedicated-server release and firewall them to the necessary networks where possible.
  • Back up the save directory and the server-settings file before upgrades or password recovery.
  • Invalidate API tokens when they are no longer needed, using the command supported by your build.
  • Never enable an insecure local-access setting on an interface that untrusted users can reach.

Version and port caveats to keep in mind

Documentation currently available for this workflow references Satisfactory 1.1 and Update 1.2, while port guides mention 7777, 15777, and TCP 8888 in different roles. Treat menu names, command syntax, licensing requirements, and port assignments as release-dependent. Before a new deployment or upgrade, compare the dedicated-server release notes and current official instructions with your host’s actual configuration, then update the Server Manager entry and firewall rules together.
