In ARC Raiders, fire the Grappling Hook at a higher surface and climb the rope for elevation, attach it across a gap and swing from the anchor, or grapple to a lower point and descend. To disengage, use a downward or sideways route that breaks the enemy’s current line of sight, then land behind cover with a second move planned. The gadget can fail to catch a ledge, snag on geometry, or lose its hold, so treat every grapple as a movement option—not a guaranteed escape.
What the Grappling Hook actually does
The Grappling Hook is a rope-and-pivot movement gadget introduced with the Frozen Trail update. After the hook attaches to a surface, your character can move along the rope toward the anchor, use the anchor as a point from which to swing, or travel downward along the line. That makes it different from a simple pull that always deposits you at the target.
PC Gamer’s hands-on report describes the hook as attaching to most building surfaces, allowing climbs, rooftop-to-rooftop swings and descents. The same report also records imperfect interactions: a player can reach the top of the rope without automatically grabbing a ledge, a line can tangle around a projecting balcony, and the hook may fail to hold on a large Emperor ARC. “Most buildings” is therefore a practical observation, not a promise that every surface or angle is valid. Get the item before you plan a route
Beebom’s October 9, 2026 guide reports two ways to obtain a Grappling Hook: purchase one from Nomadic Envoys or loot one during a run. It also reports a blueprint route through level 12 of the Frozen Trail Reward Pass or the Research Station. The reported crafting requirements are shown below; check the current in-game screen because progression and recipes can change in later patches.

Plan the landing before you fire
A successful attachment is only the first half of a rooftop play. Before pressing the grapple input, identify the surface, your intended movement and the next piece of cover. This matters because the rope can leave you at the roof edge without performing a dependable ledge grab.
- Choose an anchor: Aim at a wall, roof edge, beam or other surface that gives the line a clear path. Avoid thin projections and crowded balcony geometry when a cleaner anchor is available.
- Choose an arrival point: Decide whether you need the roof itself, the far side of a gap, a lower balcony or merely a break in line of sight.
- Choose the next move: Preselect cover, a second anchor, a doorway or a descent route. Do not arrive on an exposed roof and then start searching for safety.
- Check the fight: If enemies have a clear view of your route, the rope can make you predictable. Fire after using ordinary cover or when opponents are distracted where possible.
- Leave room for a miss: Keep a fallback ledge, floor or corner in mind. A failed catch should not turn a planned escape into an uncontrolled fall.
This preparation is tactical advice based on the grapple’s reported movement and failure cases, not an official guarantee of how enemies or surfaces will behave.
Reach a rooftop with a direct climb
Step 1: Anchor above your current position
Face the building and aim for a higher section of wall or roof structure. A point with a visible, unobstructed line is preferable to an edge hidden behind a balcony. Fire and confirm that the line has attached.
Step 2: Climb the rope under control
Move toward the anchor rather than assuming the hook will instantly pull you onto the roof. Watch the final few metres: reaching the rope’s top does not always mean your character has secured the ledge. Keep directional control ready so you can correct toward a safer surface or abort if the catch looks unreliable.

Step 3: Clear the edge before exposing yourself
Once you reach roof height, move behind a parapet, rooftop machinery or another solid obstruction before re-engaging. The roof edge is a vulnerable place to pause, particularly if the squad below watched the line travel upward.
Step 4: Continue from the roof
Use the new elevation to scout, rotate toward cover or set a second anchor. A roof is not automatically safe: enemies can follow the same route, fire from another building or force you back to the edge.

Cross a rooftop gap with a swing
Step 1: Fire past the gap
Attach to a surface on the far side or above the crossing. The anchor becomes a pivot rather than simply a destination. Select a point that leaves enough open space for your swing and does not route the rope around a balcony or sign.
Step 2: Build lateral momentum
Move around the anchor to arc across the gap. Your goal is to arrive over a roof, balcony or other usable surface, not to stop at the centre of empty space. Keep the destination in view throughout the swing.
Step 3: Release or transition at the landing
As you approach the destination, prepare to move toward the receiving surface. The report does not establish a universal automatic landing behavior, so do not assume that touching roof height equals a secure foothold.

Step 4: Chain another swing if needed
PC Gamer reports that the Grappling Hook can be redeployed in midair, allowing chained swings without a reported cooldown or use limit in that hands-on session. This is an observation from that report, not a complete official item specification. If the first swing leaves you short, look for a second anchor before committing to a fall and fire again while airborne when the geometry permits.

Descend instead of dropping
A lower route can be safer than jumping from a roof, especially when you need to preserve health, avoid fall exposure or move around the side of a building. Attach to a lower point and descend along the rope. Aim for a balcony, platform, alley mouth or other surface that gives immediate cover.
Use the descent to change the enemy’s angle, not merely to move vertically. A drop into the same open street can leave you visible and surrounded. A lower anchor that places you behind a wall or around a corner is more useful than the highest possible speed.
Keep a second option ready. If the lower ledge is crowded, the rope snags or the hook does not hold, disengage toward a known floor or corner rather than continuing to an uncertain landing. No source establishes a guaranteed safe fall or a guaranteed grapple release.
Use the hook as a possible fight escape
The Grappling Hook can help you leave a losing fight by changing elevation, crossing a gap or descending out of the opponents’ current view. It does not guarantee that pursuit stops, that enemies cannot follow, or that the landing will be clean. A Reddit player described grappling down from a building after teammates were killed; that is an individual anecdote, not a measured escape result. The discussion is at r/ArcRaiders.

Break line of sight first
Do not fire straight upward from an exposed position if opponents can track the rope. Move behind a wall, vehicle, roof unit or corner, then select an anchor that takes you laterally or downward. A short loss of sight can be more valuable than maximum height.
Pick a route that changes the fight
- Downward: Descend behind the building to leave the current roof or street angle.
- Lateral: Swing to a neighbouring roof or balcony so pursuers must reposition.
- Upward: Climb to a roof only when the elevation gives you cover, a sightline or another exit; height alone is not safety.
Land, then keep moving
As soon as you reach the destination, move to cover and decide whether to heal, hide, rotate or continue grappling. Standing on the landing edge advertises your location and leaves you vulnerable if the ledge catch was incomplete.
Expect pursuit
The available sources do not measure how reliably enemies follow a grapple route or how often it breaks pursuit. Treat the tool as an opportunity to reset the engagement, not as an escape button. If the first grapple fails, use your preselected fallback rather than repeatedly firing from the same exposed spot.
What can go wrong, and how to recover

Do not copy Snap Hook numbers into a Grappling Hook loadout. Embark’s Frozen Trail 2.0 notes say the new gadget required the two tools to have separate identities. The notes describe Snap Hook as burst mobility for quickly closing distance or traversing a location, with more commitment. The Grappling Hook instead provides a rope that can be climbed, swung from or descended.

The official distinction is documented in Embark Studios’ update notes at the Frozen Trail 2.0 update page. No cited source supplies a Grappling Hook range, durability cost, power cost, cooldown, success rate or escape rate, so those figures should not be inferred.
A practical rooftop-and-escape routine
- Identify the threat: Determine where the firing is coming from and whether you need height, distance or a line-of-sight break.
- Move to a firing position: Use ordinary cover before exposing the grapple trajectory.
- Select the anchor: Prefer a solid, unobstructed wall, roof section or balcony that leads toward your intended destination.
- Choose the movement mode: Climb for elevation, swing for a gap, or descend for a lower route.
- Fire and watch the line: Confirm attachment and monitor for snagging or an invalid hold.
- Control the final approach: Do not assume the top of the rope automatically converts into a ledge grab.
- Secure the landing: Move behind cover immediately and avoid pausing on the edge.
- Continue or reset: Heal, rotate, hide or select a second anchor; if opponents still have the angle, keep moving.
What is and is not known about performance
Current reporting supports the movement behaviors above but does not provide a laboratory success percentage, rooftop-access percentage or escape percentage. It also does not establish a universal attachment range, cooldown, durability drain or power cost for the Grappling Hook. The only published numbers in the cited material—18 metres, 4% durability per use and 60 power—belong to the separate Snap Hook in Embark’s 2026 update notes.
That distinction is important when planning inventory and fights. You can practice the route logic—anchor selection, swing timing, landing cover and fallback movement—but you cannot responsibly promise that a particular roof, enemy or pursuit scenario will produce the same result every time.

- Do I have a visible anchor and a clear rope path?
- Where will I land, and what cover is there?
- If the ledge grab fails, what floor, balcony or corner is my fallback?
- Would a downward or lateral route break the enemy’s current sightline better than climbing?
- Can I deploy a second grapple in midair if the first swing falls short?
- What is my next action after landing: hide, heal, rotate or fight?
Use the Grappling Hook as controlled three-dimensional movement. Its strongest plays come from combining an intentional anchor with a protected landing and an immediate follow-up, while accepting that imperfect geometry can turn a seemingly good line into a miss.
