Put the Basic Camera in your backpack, assign it to a Quick Use slot, press Q to equip it, use right-click (RMB) to aim, frame the subject, adjust the zoom, and take the photograph. Then extract successfully. A Destructoid guide reports that a Camera carried in your backpack is lost when your Raider dies. Embark’s official update explains the Camera objectives but does not independently document a Camera-specific death-loss rule, so treat the loss warning as reported guidance rather than an official guarantee. Sources: Destructoid and Embark’s Frozen Trail 2.0 update.
What the Camera is in ARC Raiders
The Camera is an in-game Quick Use gadget added in the Frozen Trail 2.0 update. It is not real-world camera equipment and does not replace a weapon, armor item, or ordinary inventory resource. The item reference classifies the Basic Camera as an Uncommon Gadget used to take pictures and selfies. The same update introduced Basic and Advanced Cameras and changed several quests so that the new Camera is part of the objective.
For the instructions below, “Camera” means the Basic Camera unless a quest or item description says otherwise. Embark specifically says that the Outpost-unlock research starts with a photograph of a farmland house. The update also identifies photo requirements in The League, Reduced to Rubble, Life of a Pharmacist, Battening Down, and Groundbreaking. Read the active quest text before entering a match so you know which subject must be photographed.
Use the Camera: the exact sequence
1. Put a Camera in your backpack
You cannot use the gadget if you have not brought one into the raid. Obtain a Basic Camera through scavenging, crafting, Shani, or one of the quests that provides it, then confirm that it appears in your backpack before deploying.

2. Assign it to a Quick Use slot
Open your loadout or inventory and place the Basic Camera in an available Quick Use slot. The Camera must be carried in the backpack and assigned to that slot; merely owning one elsewhere does not equip it for the raid.
3. Equip it
With the Camera assigned, press Q to equip it. These keyboard-and-mouse controls are the controls documented by the Destructoid guide. If Q does not bring up the gadget, return to the loadout and check that the Camera is actually assigned rather than just stored in another backpack position.
4. Aim and frame the subject
Use right-click (RMB) to aim. Point the view at the quest target, adjust the zoom as needed, and compose the image so the required object is clearly in frame. For the Outpost research opener, that target is a farmland house. Other missions may name a different location, structure, person, or scene.

Use the Camera’s photo command while aimed. Wait for the game to register the objective rather than immediately switching back to a weapon. If the quest tracker does not update, recheck the target and framing, then take another photo while the Camera is still equipped.
6. Leave with the item
Completing the photograph and retaining the Camera are separate outcomes. The Destructoid guide reports that a Camera in the backpack is lost if the Raider dies. After the objective registers, prioritize a safe extraction if you want to keep the carried gadget. The official update does not state that Cameras receive a special exception to ordinary death consequences.

How to get a Basic Camera
There are four documented ways to obtain one. Availability and safety differ by route, so choose based on what you already have and how urgently the objective must be completed.
| Route | What is documented | What is not established | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scavenging | The item reference lists scavenging as a source of Basic Cameras. | No fixed location, drop rate, or guaranteed container is specified. | Use one you find when you want to avoid spending crafting materials. |
| Crafting | At Workbench 1, use 8 Plastic Parts and 1 Wire to craft one Basic Camera. | The sources do not give a crafting time or any higher-workbench alternative. | Reliable when the required materials are already available. |
| Buying from Shani | Embark says Shani’s offers include Cameras. | The Frozen Trail 2.0 notes do not state the current price, stock count, or refresh schedule. | Check Shani in your current game rather than relying on an old price or quantity. |
| Quest reward | The item reference lists Sizing Things Up and Taking Stock as quests that can provide a Basic Camera. | The sources do not specify the exact reward timing or whether the reward is repeatable. | Use a quest-provided Camera before spending materials or currency. |
The recipe and recycling value come from the unofficial ARC Raiders Wiki Basic Camera reference. It says recycling one Basic Camera returns 5 Plastic Parts. Recycling therefore gives back fewer Plastic Parts than the eight used in the recipe and does not return the Wire; only recycle one when you have decided you no longer need the gadget.

Which acquisition route should you choose?
Craft when materials are on hand
Crafting is the clearest planned option: one Workbench 1, eight Plastic Parts, and one Wire produce one Camera. It avoids relying on a trader’s changing offer and does not require waiting for a quest reward. Before crafting, make sure the objective is active and that you can afford to carry the gadget through an extraction attempt.
Buy only after checking Shani’s current offer
Embark confirms that Shani sells Cameras, but the update does not publish a stable price or quantity. Open Shani’s live offer and verify both before deciding whether buying is preferable to crafting. Do not treat a price seen in an older guide as a current value.
Use scavenged or quest-provided Cameras first
If you already found a Camera or received one through Sizing Things Up or Taking Stock, use that item for the photo objective before making another. The sources do not establish a durability system or a requirement to carry a particular Camera variant for the listed objectives.

How to avoid losing the Camera
Carry only what the objective requires
Bring one Camera for the active photo task instead of carrying extra copies. This does not change the reported death rule, but it limits the number of Cameras exposed if the run fails. The recommendation is a practical consequence of the guide’s loss warning, not a separately tested game mechanic.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Take the photograph promptly
Do not carry the gadget through unnecessary fights or side activities after you have entered the raid. Reach the target, equip the Camera, complete the photo, and move toward extraction. Every additional encounter is another opportunity to die while the item is in your backpack.
Extract after the tracker confirms completion
Check that the photo objective has registered before leaving the area. Once it has, choose the safest available route out rather than continuing to search for optional loot. The objective is not secured merely because the Camera interface opened or the shutter sound played; the quest state must update.
Abort a dangerous attempt instead of forcing it
If the target area is too dangerous to reach or extract from, wait for a safer run. The practical guidance is to protect the Camera by avoiding an unnecessary death, not to assume that the item will return automatically. The available sources do not document a recovery screen, insurance rule, or Camera-specific replacement after death.
Outpost research and the other photo quests
Outpost unlock research
According to Embark’s Frozen Trail 2.0 notes, accept the Outpost research and bring a Camera. The opening research step asks for a photo of a farmland house. Because the update describes the objective but not every interaction prompt, use the in-game quest tracker as the authority for the exact target and completion state.

Updated older quests
The update says that The League, Reduced to Rubble, Life of a Pharmacist, Battening Down, and Groundbreaking now include taking photos with the new Camera. The target for each quest can differ, so do not assume that a successful farmland-house photo completes one of these missions. Open the individual quest and photograph the subject it names.

The Camera does not appear when you press Q
- Confirm that a Basic Camera is in the backpack, not merely available in storage or a menu.
- Verify that it is assigned to a Quick Use slot.
- Return to the loadout, remove it from the slot, assign it again, and re-enter the raid only after it is visible in the active slot.
The photo does not count
- Check the quest tracker for the exact subject; the required target may not be the nearest similar object.
- Press
Qto equip the Camera and useRMBto aim before taking the shot. - Adjust the zoom and reframe the subject so it is clearly within the view.
- Take another photo and wait for the objective marker or tracker to update.
You completed the photo but died before extracting
The Destructoid guide reports that a carried Camera is lost on death. The official Frozen Trail 2.0 notes do not confirm a special Camera exception or a post-death return. Treat the item as unavailable for the next attempt and obtain another through scavenging, crafting, Shani, or the documented quest routes.
You are unsure whether to recycle it
The item reference lists a return of five Plastic Parts for recycling one Basic Camera. Since crafting costs eight Plastic Parts plus one Wire, recycling is not a full-material refund. Keep the Camera if another photo objective is active or likely to be attempted soon.
What the sources establish—and what they do not
The official Frozen Trail 2.0 update, published October 8, 2026, establishes that Cameras were introduced, that Shani’s offers include them, and that the Outpost and several other quests use photo objectives. It does not publish a Camera-specific death-loss rule, Shani’s current price, stock quantity, or a complete control list.

The Destructoid guide, published and updated October 8, 2026, supplies the practical keyboard-and-mouse sequence—Q to equip, RMB to aim, zoom, and take the photo—and reports that a Camera in the backpack is lost when the Raider dies. That loss statement should be understood as the guide’s report, not as a separately quoted rule in Embark’s update.
The ARC Raiders Wiki item reference supplies the Basic Camera classification, acquisition routes, Workbench 1 recipe, and five-Plastic-Parts recycling return. It is an unofficial reference, so check the live game if an item description or trader offer differs.
Quick pre-raid and post-photo checklist
- Quest requiring a photograph is active.
- Basic Camera is in the backpack.
- Camera is assigned to a Quick Use slot.
- Workbench 1 recipe materials are available if crafting: 8 Plastic Parts and 1 Wire.
- Target and required framing are understood from the quest tracker.
Qequips the Camera andRMBaims.- Photo registers in the quest tracker.
- Extraction is completed before taking unnecessary risks.
Following that sequence addresses the practical problem behind the title: use the Camera only when it is properly equipped, complete the required image, and leave the raid before a reported death-loss can remove it from your backpack.
