There is no single best gadget for every ARC Raiders raid. The right choice depends on the job you need to perform: gaining vertical mobility, making a short reposition, avoiding ARC detection, gathering information, blocking access, or sending a signal. The Grappling Hook is the most versatile traversal option in the current hands-on coverage, but narrower tools can be better when your plan has a specific requirement.

This guide explains how to equip and activate gadgets, what each documented option is designed to do, how to use the Grappling Hook safely, and how the October 13, 2026 update changed its behavior.

What “best gadget” means in ARC Raiders

“Best” is a task-fit decision rather than a permanent ranking. A gadget that gets you onto a roof may be the wrong choice when you need concealment from ARC, information about a nearby Raider, or control of a doorway. Compare each option on five questions:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Task fit: Does it solve the immediate problem—movement, concealment, information, access control, or signaling?
  • Range and placement: Does it require a valid surface, a particular distance, an eligible door, or another placement condition?
  • Charges and recovery: Is it limited to a number of uses, or does its usage bar refill over time?
  • Exposure cost: Does activation create noise or otherwise reveal your position?
  • Context: Is the current route, map geometry, or encounter actually suited to that gadget?

Available coverage describes distinct functions and some limits, but it does not establish a controlled, cross-platform test that proves one universal winner. Treat the recommendations below as role-based choices, not a permanent tier list.

Gadget roles at a glance

Gadget Best fit Documented behavior and limits
Grappling Hook Flexible vertical traversal and roof-to-roof movement Can attach to many surfaces, support climbs, swings and descents, and be redeployed in midair according to hands-on preview reporting. Ledges, geometry, large enemies and valid attachment points can make use inconsistent.
Snap Hook Short-range traversal Listed as a 20 m tool with a slowly refilling use bar and three uses at full charge. Check the live item description before relying on those limits.
Photoelectric Cloak Avoiding ARC detection Held to conceal the user from ARC. Its usage bar refills slowly. It does not make the player invisible to other players and emits a loud beep.
Noisemaker Information about nearby enemy Raiders Designed to detect nearby enemy Raiders; the available guide does not establish a universal range or duration.
Door Blocker Restricting access Works on eligible doors to limit access. Placement eligibility matters.
Remote Raider Flare Manually sending a distress signal Lets you send a distress signal when you choose; the available description does not establish a broader combat effect.
Zipline Rapid traversal where placement is possible Requires its placement conditions to be met, so it is route-dependent rather than universally usable.

How to equip and activate a gadget

Bring the gadget into the raid loadout before going topside. A gadget found after deployment cannot help until it is available in the current loadout and assigned for use.

  1. Open your inventory or loadout. Locate the gadget you intend to carry and equip it before launching the raid.
  2. Assign it to a Quick Use slot. The current guide describes Quick Use as the path to the in-raid wheel. Make sure the item appears in the slot rather than merely sitting in storage.
  3. Open the quick wheel. On the reported PC default, hold Q to open the wheel. Q is not guaranteed on every platform, keyboard layout, or remapped setup; check your own control settings if the wheel does not appear.
  4. Select the gadget. Highlight the item on the wheel and release or confirm according to your platform’s prompt.
  5. Activate or place it. Some gadgets are held tools, while others require a target or valid placement location. Follow the on-screen activation or placement action rather than assuming every item behaves like a throwable.
  6. Confirm the state. Watch the usage bar, charge count, or placement result before moving on. A failed placement is different from a consumed use, and the interface is the quickest way to tell which occurred.

Practice the wheel flow in a low-risk situation before committing to a dangerous route. The important sequence is loadout assignment, Quick Use selection, activation or placement, and a check that the gadget actually responded.

Choose the gadget by the job you need done

For flexible vertical movement: Grappling Hook

The Grappling Hook is the broadest movement option described in the available hands-on coverage. Morgan Park’s October 7 preview reported climbing to building tops, swinging between rooftops, descending safely, and interacting with flying ARC. The hook can serve as a pivot: you can climb toward it, descend from it, or swing against it. The preview also reported redeploying it in midair without a cooldown or use limit during that hands-on session.

Those observations are useful technique guidance, not a universal performance test. Attachment quality still depends on the surface and surrounding geometry. Ledge grabs can fail, a rope can catch on geometry, and some surfaces or large enemies can be difficult to use. Plan a fallback route instead of treating a single hook point as guaranteed.

For short-range movement: Snap Hook

The Snap Hook fills a narrower movement role. The gadget guide lists a 20 m reach, a slowly refilling use bar, and three uses at full charge. Because item values can change in a live game, verify the current in-game description before building a route around exactly 20 m or exactly three charges. It is most useful when the gap is modest and you need a repeatable, limited reposition rather than the Grappling Hook’s broader swing options.

For avoiding ARC detection: Photoelectric Cloak

The Photoelectric Cloak is described as a held tool that conceals you from ARC. Its usage bar refills slowly, so treat activation as a timed resource rather than an always-on state. The cloak does not make you invisible to other players, and it emits a loud beep. Use it to address an ARC-detection problem, not as a promise that every nearby opponent will fail to notice you.

Because the cloak’s protection is specifically described in relation to ARC, keep player awareness in your plan. Concealment from one threat does not remove the other threat, and the beep itself can change how detectable your movement is.

For information about nearby enemy Raiders: Noisemaker

The Noisemaker is the information-focused choice in the documented roster. Its stated purpose is detecting nearby enemy Raiders. Select it when uncertainty about nearby players is the main obstacle to a decision, such as whether to continue through an area or alter your route. The available description does not establish a universal detection radius or duration, so read the live item text and treat the result as situational information rather than a map-wide scan.

For restricting access: Door Blocker

Door Blocker is a control tool for eligible doors. It is appropriate when the route or room itself matters and you need to restrict access through that particular entrance. “Eligible” is important: the gadget is not described as working on every door or every surface. Check the placement prompt before exposing yourself to set it up.

For manually sending a distress signal: Remote Raider Flare

Remote Raider Flare lets you send a distress signal manually. Choose it when signaling is the objective, rather than carrying it as a substitute for a movement or concealment tool. The available description establishes the manual signal function but does not establish additional effects, so do not assume it also provides detection, defense, or extraction benefits beyond the signal itself.

For rapid movement along a placed line: Zipline

Zipline supports rapid traversal where its placement requirements are met. It is therefore route-dependent: the line must be placeable before it can help. Consider it when you can identify a valid setup location in advance, and keep an alternative movement path in case the terrain rejects the placement.

Grappling Hook technique: a safer sequence

The hook’s flexibility comes from combining several movement patterns rather than pressing it once and hoping for a perfect landing.

1. Identify the destination and the recovery surface

Before firing, look beyond the first ledge. Identify where you want to end the climb or swing and where you could land if the attachment or release is imperfect. A roof edge, open walkable ground, or another stable surface is a better objective than an obstruction that leaves no recovery option.

2. Attach to a surface that can support the move

The preview reported attachment to many surfaces, but not every surface behaves equally. Large enemies, awkward geometry, and light or moving objects can create problems. If the hook does not give a clear, stable line, reposition before committing to the movement.

3. Use the hook as a pivot

During a climb, you can move toward the hook. During a descent, let it support the drop. During a swing, use the line to carry momentum across a gap. The preview also described redeploying in midair, which allows a sequence of attachments instead of a single all-or-nothing jump. Keep your next attachment in view before releasing the current movement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Finish on walkable ground when possible

A successful attachment is not the same as a safe landing. Aim to end on a surface you can stand on, not merely near an edge. This matters especially when the destination is a roof lip or uneven geometry.

5. Keep a fallback

Ledge grabs may fail and ropes may catch on geometry. Do not spend the hook with no alternate route when an ARC or Raider can punish a missed connection. If the route requires several consecutive attachments, pause between them long enough to confirm the next line.

What changed in the October 13, 2026 update

Embark Studios’ October 13, 2026 update specifically adjusted Grappling Hook behavior. The notes state: “Made it easier to vault onto ledges and roofs when using the Grappling Hook, especially on Pendola Pass. Auto-vault now triggers more reliably at the top of rope climbs, and ending a swing on walkable ground is more consistent.”

The same update also lists fixes for hooks swinging from objects too light to hold the player, detaching from fast-moving objects, wrapping around geometry in flight, and behavior when a player is downed. These changes address failure cases rather than turning every attachment into a guaranteed connection. If an older route felt unreliable, try it again after the update, but continue to account for valid surfaces and surrounding geometry.

How to prepare and obtain gadgets

The October 7 guide describes three acquisition routes:

  • Loot: Gadgets can be found while scavenging. Higher-rarity gadgets may appear in locked rooms or high-risk zones.
  • Crafting: Once the recipe is available, craft the gadget at the appropriate Utility Bench.
  • Traders: Buy gadgets from traders when the item is present in their inventory.

Trader inventories do not include every utility, and recipes, prices, rarity availability, and stock can rotate or change. Use the current item description, trader screen, and Utility Bench requirements as the authority for exact costs and prerequisites instead of relying on a static list.

Decision framework for a raid

Before deployment

  • Write down the primary problem your route presents: vertical access, a short gap, ARC exposure, uncertain Raider presence, a doorway, a signal, or a planned rapid crossing.
  • Choose the gadget whose documented function directly addresses that problem.
  • Assign it to Quick Use and confirm the control binding on your platform.
  • Check whether the plan depends on a range, charge count, usage bar, eligible door, or placement location.

While moving through the map

  • Reassess when the environment changes. A roof route may favor the Grappling Hook, while a nearby ARC patrol may make the Photoelectric Cloak more relevant.
  • Do not spend a limited or slowly recovering resource merely for convenience if the next encounter requires it.
  • For placement gadgets, verify the prompt before standing still in an exposed position.
  • After activation, confirm the charge, bar, or signal state so you know what remains available.

When the plan fails

Switch from the gadget’s intended job to basic positioning and cover. A failed hook attachment, rejected Zipline placement, or unavailable Door Blocker target is a route problem, not proof that the item is broken. Move to a valid surface or alternate path, then try again only when the interface confirms that the condition is met.

Common mistakes and fixes

The quick wheel does not open

Q is the reported PC default, not a universal binding. Check the control settings for your platform, keyboard layout, or remapped controls, then confirm that the gadget is assigned to a Quick Use slot.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The gadget is equipped but cannot activate

Some tools require a target or placement condition. Move until the activation or placement prompt appears, and check whether the item has a charge or a refilling bar available.

The Grappling Hook catches, but the landing fails

Use a more stable attachment and aim for walkable ground rather than an edge. Ledge grabs and geometry can still cause failures even though the October 13 update improved auto-vaulting and landing consistency.

The Photoelectric Cloak did not hide me from another player

That is expected from the documented behavior. The cloak conceals the user from ARC, not from other players, and it emits a loud beep.

The Snap Hook runs out during a route

Its listed behavior is three uses at full charge with a slowly refilling bar. Check the live item description, count the remaining uses before crossing, and keep a non-gadget route available.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

A Door Blocker or Zipline will not place

Both are condition-dependent. Door Blocker requires an eligible door; Zipline requires a valid placement situation. Move to a qualifying location rather than repeatedly activating from the same invalid spot.

Practical loadout examples

Roof-to-roof route

Use the Grappling Hook when the route depends on climbing, swinging, or controlled descents. Identify several possible attachment points and a walkable landing area before leaving cover. This is the strongest case for calling the hook “best,” but only for the traversal job.

Short gap with predictable distance

Use the Snap Hook when the needed reposition is within its listed 20 m range and you can budget its three full-charge uses. Verify the current in-game limits first, because live item values can change.

ARC-heavy passage with player risk

Use the Photoelectric Cloak for the ARC-concealment portion of the route, then continue to account for other players and the cloak’s beep. If player uncertainty is the dominant problem instead, the Noisemaker addresses that different need.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Defensible doorway

Use Door Blocker when an eligible door controls the approach you want to restrict. If the door is not eligible, choose a different position rather than assuming the blocker can be placed anywhere.

Planned signal

Carry Remote Raider Flare when sending a distress signal is an explicit objective. Do not select it merely because the name sounds like a general-purpose combat gadget; the documented function is manual signaling.

Bottom line on the “most powerful” gadget

If you need one broadly useful movement tool, the Grappling Hook is the best-supported recommendation: the preview describes climbing, swinging, descending, and midair redeployment, and the October 13 update improved vaulting and landing consistency. It still has a learning curve and attachment failures. For every other job, choose the purpose-built option—Snap Hook for short-range movement, Photoelectric Cloak for concealment from ARC, Noisemaker for nearby-Raider information, Door Blocker for eligible doors, Remote Raider Flare for manual distress signaling, and Zipline where placement is available.
