The documented Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond integration is a FIFA 23 feature. In FIFA 23 Career Mode, select Ted Lasso as your manager, or manage AFC Richmond and swap the club into the Premier League or another playable Career Mode league. For matches outside Career Mode, EA announced AFC Richmond for Kick-Off, Online Friendlies and Online Seasons, with related unlockable items for Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs where applicable.
EA’s instructions do not confirm that the same licensed content appears in later EA SPORTS FC releases. Check the game title, platform and edition before you buy or start a save.
First, identify the correct game
Search results and current branding can make this feature sound like a general EA SPORTS FC option. The official instructions located for Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond are specifically for FIFA 23, released before the series adopted the EA SPORTS FC name.

EA’s later EA SPORTS FC 25 product page describes that game’s modes but does not present Ted Lasso or AFC Richmond among its listed features. That page does not prove the content is absent from every later release, but it does mean you should not purchase a current EA SPORTS FC title expecting the FIFA 23 license to carry over. The step-by-step instructions below apply to FIFA 23.

Platforms named in EA’s FIFA 23 announcement
EA’s FIFA 23 material lists these platforms:

Availability can depend on the specific product edition, region and storefront listing. Confirm those details for your platform before purchasing; do not infer that a feature documented for FIFA 23 is automatically present in another game or edition.
Choose how you want to play Ted Lasso content
There are two different Career Mode setups, and they produce different saves:

Set up a Ted Lasso Manager Career
Use this route if your priority is the manager character rather than making AFC Richmond the club in your league.
- Start FIFA 23 and open Career Mode.
- Choose the manager-career setup rather than a Player Career. Manager Career is the club-management format described by EA.
- When the game asks you to choose a playable manager, select Ted Lasso.
- Continue the save with the club, league and management responsibilities presented by the game.
EA’s FIFA 23 guide explicitly says Ted Lasso can be selected as a playable manager in Career Mode. Selecting him does not, by itself, describe a club-swap operation; the separate AFC Richmond workflow is the option to use when you want the fictional club in a playable league.
What Manager Career includes
In the manager format, your decisions concern the club rather than controlling one player’s career. EA’s Career Mode guidance groups the responsibilities into:
- Squad management: handling the team available to the club.
- Tactics: setting the team’s approach for matches.
- Transfers: managing player movement.
- Finances: operating within the club’s financial responsibilities.
- Player development: working on the progression of players.
Those are the standard Manager Career responsibilities described in EA’s current guide; the guide provides context for the mode and is not evidence that the Ted Lasso license continues in later EA SPORTS FC games.

Choose this setup if you want to manage the fictional AFC Richmond club itself. EA’s FIFA 23 wording is that you can manage AFC Richmond by swapping it into the Premier League or any other playable Career Mode league.

- Start FIFA 23 and open Career Mode.
- Choose the manager-career setup, because this is the club-management mode.
- Select AFC Richmond as the club you will manage.
- Use the league-swap option to place AFC Richmond in the Premier League or another league that the game marks as playable in Career Mode.
- Confirm the league and complete the save setup shown by FIFA 23.
The league-swap step is important. Finding AFC Richmond in another part of the game does not automatically place the club in a Career Mode league; the EA-documented workflow specifically combines managing AFC Richmond with swapping it into a playable league.
Premier League or another playable league?
The Premier League is the example in EA’s guide, but it is not the only destination named. You can use another league if FIFA 23 identifies it as playable in Career Mode. The available destinations are therefore determined by the game’s league list and your edition, rather than by a universal list that applies to every platform.
If the league-swap choice is not available, check the following before assuming the license is missing:
- You launched FIFA 23, not an EA SPORTS FC release whose Ted Lasso support has not been confirmed.
- You entered Career Mode and selected a manager-career setup.
- You selected AFC Richmond as the club before looking for the league-swap workflow.
- Your copy is one of the FIFA 23 platform and edition combinations covered by the product listing.
Manager Career versus Player Career
The mode choice determines what Ted Lasso can mean in your save. Use this comparison before starting a new career:

EA’s September 21, 2022 announcement also placed AFC Richmond in several match-focused modes. These are separate from the Career Mode club-swap process.

Kick-Off
Kick-Off is the straightforward choice when you want an AFC Richmond match without beginning a long-term save. EA announced the club for Kick-Off, but the announcement does not provide a universal controller sequence or a platform-specific menu path. Use the team-selection screen supplied by your FIFA 23 edition and look for AFC Richmond among the available teams.
Online Friendlies and Online Seasons
EA also announced AFC Richmond for Online Friendlies and Online Seasons. These appearances do not change the Career Mode league structure. If you want to build a club over time, return to Manager Career and use the AFC Richmond league-swap process instead.

Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs items
The announcement describes related AFC Richmond content for Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs as unlockable items where applicable. Treat those items as separate rewards or customization content. They are not evidence that the entire AFC Richmond squad has been inserted into the Career Mode league you selected.
A practical decision guide
Use the following quick decisions to avoid starting the wrong mode:
- Want Ted as the person running a club? Start FIFA 23 Career Mode and select Ted Lasso as your playable manager.
- Want AFC Richmond to be your club in a league? Start Manager Career, choose AFC Richmond, then swap it into the Premier League or another playable Career Mode league.
- Want one match? Use Kick-Off.
- Want an online match with the club? Use Online Friendlies or Online Seasons, both of which EA announced for AFC Richmond.
- Want themed rewards or customization? Check the applicable Ultimate Team or Pro Clubs content; those items follow a different unlockable-content system.
Plan the save before you confirm it
The two Career Mode routes can overlap, but they answer different questions. Selecting Ted Lasso makes the manager the central choice while the club remains a separate setup decision. Selecting AFC Richmond makes the fictional club the central choice and requires the league swap. Decide which element matters most before confirming the save, because the documented instructions do not describe a single button that automatically combines both choices in every setup.

A useful planning sequence is:
- Choose the game first. Verify that the title is FIFA 23. The Ted Lasso announcement is tied to that release, not to the EA SPORTS FC brand generally.
- Choose the career format. Select Manager Career when you want club-level control. Player Career is designed around an individual player and is not the documented route for Ted as manager.
- Choose the subject of the save. Select Ted Lasso if the manager character is the priority. Select AFC Richmond if the club itself is the priority.
- Choose the league destination. For AFC Richmond, use the Premier League or another league the game identifies as playable in Career Mode.

Check the platform, edition, region and whether the copy is physical or digital. EA’s announcement names PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but a retailer’s listing is the place to confirm current stock, compatibility and regional delivery details.
Do not treat a newer product page as a substitute for a FIFA 23 listing. The EA SPORTS FC 25 page presents that game’s modes, but it does not list Ted Lasso or AFC Richmond among the features shown there. That is enough reason to verify the exact product before spending money, but not enough to make a universal claim about every later release or edition.
For viewers who want to revisit the show before playing, EA identifies Ted Lasso as an Apple TV+ series. Streaming availability can vary by country and can change over time, so check the Apple TV+ service in your region separately. Watching the series is optional and is not required by the FIFA 23 gameplay instructions.

- AFC Richmond in Kick-Off is not the same as AFC Richmond in Career Mode. The first is a match selection; the second requires choosing the club and using the league-swap workflow.
- Ultimate Team items are not a full club-management option. EA described related items as unlockable where applicable, rather than describing the Career Mode squad and league structure.
- Pro Clubs items are not a manager save. Treat them as mode-specific customization or reward content.
- Manager Career is not Player Career. The former handles squad, tactics, transfers, finances and player development; the latter follows an individual footballer.
- A later EA SPORTS FC title is not automatically FIFA 23. The branding change makes the title check especially important.
Troubleshooting when Ted Lasso or AFC Richmond is missing
You are playing an EA SPORTS FC title rather than FIFA 23
This is the most important check. The official Ted Lasso instructions cited by EA are for FIFA 23. EA’s FC 25 purchase page does not list Ted Lasso or AFC Richmond among its presented features, so do not assume that a current EA SPORTS FC game includes the same integration. Verify the exact title on the game’s main menu, store listing or physical case.
Ted Lasso does not appear as a manager
Confirm that you entered FIFA 23 Career Mode and selected the manager-career format. EA’s documented feature is Ted Lasso as a playable manager in Career Mode; it is not described as a Player Career option or as a generic manager available in every mode.
AFC Richmond appears elsewhere but not in your career setup
The announced club presence in Kick-Off, Online Friendlies and Online Seasons is separate from Career Mode. For a career save, select AFC Richmond as the club you manage and then use the league-swap option to move it into the Premier League or another playable Career Mode league.

EA’s wording limits the choice to the Premier League or another playable Career Mode league. A league that is not available in your FIFA 23 setup cannot be selected through this documented workflow. Check the leagues FIFA 23 marks as playable rather than treating every real-world league as an eligible destination.
You expected Ultimate Team or Pro Clubs to use the full AFC Richmond team
EA described Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs content as related unlockable items where applicable. That is different from managing the club in Career Mode. Look for the relevant item or reward in those modes instead of searching for the Career Mode club-swap command.
Your platform or edition differs from the announcement
Check whether your copy matches one of the platforms EA listed: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Also verify the edition and regional listing. The announcement does not establish that every edition has identical availability, so a platform mismatch should be resolved with the store or product listing before troubleshooting the save.

- Confirm the game is FIFA 23.
- Confirm your platform and edition against the listing for your copy.
