TableJourney presents food-festival dates as reusable data through a REST API, an MCP server, SQL and CSV/JSON downloads. That can help answer a practical question such as “which food festivals are on in Spain the week I am there?”—but a date is only useful if you check when its source was verified and which dataset snapshot you are using.

What the food-festival data offers

Festival listings often say an event happens every autumn without identifying its next edition, or leave last year’s dates in place. TableJourney says it addresses that gap by recording recurring festivals and calculating their next dates from recurrence rules. Examples in its announcement include a particular weekday in a month, a fixed calendar day, Easter, Lunar New Year and Mid-Autumn markets. The project says individual festival pages include the source and date checked; its agent documentation advises citing the relevant festival page and using checked_on when relevant. These are the project’s stated practices, not an independent audit of the date calculations.

The announcement describes festival records with fields such as name, city, start and end dates, month, annual status, a short summary and a link to the festival page. The official agent documentation also lists filters for country, city, date range, text query and result limit. Consult the current documentation before building against a particular response schema: the available descriptions do not establish every endpoint parameter or field.

Choose an access method

Method Best fit What the sources establish
REST API Applications requesting festivals for a country, city or date range. The article gives a country-and-date-range example; the official agent page documents festival filters and links REST and OpenAPI documentation.
MCP server AI assistants or other MCP clients calling festival search as a tool. The official page lists a festivals tool and gives the streamable HTTP server address https://tablejourney.com/mcp.
SQL on DoltHub Grouping or analyzing records with queries. The announcement shows a monthly aggregation and links the repository, but its example was not independently reproduced against the live data.
CSV/JSON downloads Local analysis, batch processing or importing into another system. The announcement identifies these download formats and points to a GitHub repository and Zenodo record; verify the actual version and license before reuse.

The MCP page also lists other food-travel tools, including venue search, place details, itinerary planning, experiences, stays, car hire, dishes and city tools. Those sit alongside the festival data; they are not required to access the data interfaces, which the project describes as free and requiring no sign-up.

Example: request festivals in Italy by date

The October 5, 2026 announcement gives a REST example for Italy from October 10 through November 30, 2026, with a limit of three results. Treat it as an illustration of the intended filter pattern, not a guarantee of the live endpoint’s exact syntax or current response. Check the linked documentation and OpenAPI description for the current request format before using it in an application.

For an assistant workflow, connect an MCP client to https://tablejourney.com/mcp using the setup details on the official agent documentation page, then use its festivals tool with the appropriate filters. For analysis, SQL can answer a different question—such as how records are distributed by month—while a CSV or JSON download can be processed locally.

What the published counts do—and do not—tell you

Two TableJourney sources give different figures, and neither explains the difference:

  • The October 5, 2026 announcement says the project tracks 1,376 festivals in 55 countries.
  • The official agent page, accessed October 7, 2026, says 1,301 festivals with resolved dates across 206 cities.

These may describe different scopes or snapshots. They should not be combined, treated as a single current total or read as an independently verified count of all food festivals. Check the live dataset and its inclusion rules if coverage totals matter to your use case.

The announcement also reports an SQL example with October (197), September (190) and November (161) records. Those are the article’s reported query results, not a reproduced live result. The article says the DoltHub mirror is updated weekly, so a later run may differ. The linked repository is TableJourney’s food-festivals DoltHub repository.

Verify a date before planning around it

  1. Open the festival’s own page. Check the listed edition dates and the cited source rather than relying only on a search result or a record returned by an API.
  2. Check the verification date. Look for the page’s source-check date or checked_on value. A date calculated from a recurrence rule is not the same as confirmation that the organizer has announced that edition.
  3. Confirm the live event details. Follow the cited source to verify that the dates apply to the year and location you plan to visit. This matters particularly when a festival’s recurrence depends on a movable date or lunar calendar.
  4. Record the data snapshot. Note when you downloaded or queried the dataset. The project says its DoltHub mirror is updated weekly, but the linked data could not be independently verified here.

For example, a traveler building “a vegetarian food day in Lisbon on Sunday” can use the data to discover a relevant festival, then confirm its dates and details on the festival page and cited source before making plans.

Check the license before redistributing data

The announcement states that the data is licensed under CC BY 4.0 and may be reused with attribution and a credit link. It points to a GitHub CSV/JSON repository and a Zenodo record. Because the linked resources and exact dataset version were not independently verified, check the license attached to the specific snapshot you download before redistribution, and include the attribution the live license requires.

Report missing or incorrect festivals

TableJourney’s announcement invites readers to report incorrect or missing festivals through comments or its contact page. It also says organizer corrections are locked so later updates cannot overwrite them. That is the project’s description of its correction process; confirm the current reporting route and any correction status on the relevant festival page or official site.
