On a Samsung Galaxy phone, swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers and tap Do not disturb in Quick Settings to silence interruptions. To choose which calls, messages, apps, alarms or notification visuals are allowed, open its settings; to automate quiet time, add a schedule. Menu names and options can vary by model, software version, carrier and region.
Turn Do Not Disturb on or off
For quick control, swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers to open Quick Settings, then tap the Do not disturb icon. Tap it again to turn the mode off. If the icon is not visible or the layout differs, open Settings, search for “Do not disturb,” and use the switch there. Samsung documents both routes in its U.S. Do not disturb guide.
Available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider, software version and phone model. Using Settings search is a practical fallback when a menu path or icon is different on your device.

A schedule is useful for quiet periods that repeat, such as overnight or during a regular meeting. Samsung says a Galaxy phone can have multiple schedules.

- Touch and hold the Do not disturb icon in Quick Settings to open its settings. You can also find the setting with Settings search.
- Tap Add schedule. Some devices instead show Turn on as scheduled, then an Add button or plus icon.
- Name the schedule, choose its preferences and save it.
- Make sure the new schedule’s switch is enabled. Add another schedule if you need a separate recurring quiet period.
The exact labels and available choices depend on the phone’s software and model; use the on-device search if these steps do not match your screen. Samsung’s instructions are in its U.S. support guide.
Choose what is allowed during quiet time
In Do not disturb settings, look for Allowed during Do not disturb or similarly named controls. The U.S. support guide describes options for calls and messages, app notifications, alarms and sounds. Depending on the device, the listed sound exceptions can include media sound, touch sounds, calendar events and reminders.

- Calls and messages: Choose whether these alerts are allowed and, where offered, which callers or senders qualify.
- App notifications: Select apps whose notifications should be permitted.
- Alarms and sounds: Review alarm and sound exceptions individually; do not assume every sound is silenced if an exception is enabled.
On Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip7 example, call choices include all callers, contacts only, favorite contacts only or none. That example also includes an option for a repeat caller: the same number calling more than once within 15 minutes. These particular labels and the 15-minute window are model-specific examples, not guaranteed settings on every Galaxy phone. See Samsung’s call settings instructions.

Hide notification visuals without assuming alerts are blocked
Do Not Disturb settings can also control what appears on screen. Samsung’s U.S. guide describes Hide notifications options for full-screen notifications, app badges, entries in the notification panel, pop-ups and status-bar icons. Choose the visual controls that suit you; an alert being hidden from view is not the same as it being deleted.

Samsung notes that critical notifications about phone activity or status are not hidden. Which alerts are delivered or displayed can depend on the settings available on your device and the app, so check the options shown on your Galaxy rather than assuming the mode blocks every notification. A regular Do Not Disturb schedule is suited to a named time window. For a more flexible setup, Samsung Gulf describes creating a custom mode through Settings → Modes and Routines, adding a Do Not Disturb setting and setting an automatic trigger. A mode may also combine Do Not Disturb with other mode settings.
