Samsung Cloud backs up and restores selected Galaxy device data and syncs certain information across devices signed in to the same Samsung account. It is not a general-purpose file drive, and the options you see depend on your country, carrier, device, and software version. Samsung Gallery’s OneDrive sync ended on September 30, 2026; media synced before that date remains accessible in the OneDrive app.
What Samsung Cloud does—and what it does not
Samsung Cloud provides backup, restore, and selected data synchronization for supported Galaxy phones and tablets. Backup copies available categories to Samsung Cloud so you can restore them after a reset or when setting up another Galaxy device. Sync keeps selected data aligned across devices using the same Samsung account; it is not necessarily an independent archive of earlier versions.
Samsung requires a Samsung account. Available categories and menu names vary by model, region, carrier, and software version, so use the feature list shown on your own device rather than assuming every supported category is available to you. Samsung’s current overview and device guidance are at Samsung Cloud support.
What can Samsung Cloud back up or sync?
Samsung Australia lists categories that can include call and message history; contacts and calendars saved on the device; clock data; selected settings for accessibility, ringtones, keyboard, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and display; Samsung Health information; and Gallery media. The exact list is device- and region-dependent. Google-account contacts and calendars are not included in the Samsung Cloud sync path described by Samsung Australia.

Samsung Australia also says files larger than 1 GB cannot be backed up to Samsung Cloud. Mobile data charges may apply when using the service, so check your connection and carrier plan before starting a large backup.
How to back up and restore data to a Galaxy device
The settings screen on your Galaxy is the authoritative guide to what that device can back up or restore. Menu paths differ by One UI version, so look for Samsung Cloud in Settings rather than relying on one fixed path.

- Sign in to your Samsung account on the Galaxy phone or tablet.
- Open Settings and select Samsung Cloud. Depending on the software version, it may be listed under your Samsung account or another account-related menu.
- Review the categories shown on the device. Select the items you want included in backup or enabled for sync, then follow the on-screen prompts.
- To restore, open Samsung Cloud settings on the Galaxy device, choose the restore option, select the available backup and categories, and follow the prompts. The screen will show which data is available for that device.
Samsung describes restore as useful after a reset or when setting up a Galaxy device. For moving data to a new Galaxy, Samsung also points to Smart Switch as a separate migration option; consult Samsung’s instructions for your specific devices and software.

How Samsung Cloud sync works—and its deletion risk
Sync mirrors selected changes among devices signed in to the same Samsung account. Samsung India’s example is Samsung Notes: changing or deleting a synced note on one device changes or deletes it on other synced devices as well. If you need to preserve a separate copy, do not treat sync alone as an independent archive.

What happened to Samsung Gallery and OneDrive?
Samsung Gallery’s integration with OneDrive ended on September 30, 2026. Samsung Australia’s notice says, “The Service will no longer be available as of September 30th, 2026.” Samsung’s regional support pages state that photos and videos synced before the end remain stored in OneDrive and can be viewed through the OneDrive app. See the Samsung Australia notice, Samsung Japan guidance, and Samsung US guidance.
For new photos and videos, Samsung Australia says the OneDrive app’s Camera backup feature can continue storing media in OneDrive. This is a OneDrive app feature, not a continuation of synchronization between Samsung Gallery and OneDrive. Check the notice and settings available in your region before changing your setup.

Choosing between Samsung Cloud, OneDrive, and Smart Switch
These options serve different purposes rather than providing interchangeable copies of everything.

Samsung’s support pages establish these separate uses, but do not provide a universal head-to-head service comparison. For a general collection of files, Samsung Cloud should not be assumed to work like a file-drive service.

Before relying on a backup or sync
- Open Samsung Cloud settings on your own Galaxy and confirm the categories and backup status shown there.
- Check that you are signed in to the intended Samsung account on each device.
- For synced data, remember that a change or deletion may propagate to other devices.
- For Gallery media, confirm whether it was already synced to OneDrive; after September 30, 2026, Samsung Gallery sync is no longer available.
- For future photo backup, check the OneDrive app’s Camera backup settings and your local Samsung notice.
- Use Smart Switch instructions specific to your old and new devices when migrating.
