To get a hint on PS5 without browsing for story spoilers, open the in-game Control Center with the PS button, select Game Help, and choose only the objective you are stuck on. Start with the least revealing help available, and do not open a video or reveal an activity marked hidden unless you are comfortable with its spoiler risk. Game Help and activity cards are built-in PS5 features, but what they show depends on the game and objective.
What Game Help and activity cards do
Game Help is contextual guidance that appears in the PS5 Control Center while you play a supported game. It can offer help for particular objectives, using text, images, video, or a combination. The game’s creator supplies the content, so neither every game nor every objective is guaranteed to have help. PlayStation has not published a current, complete title list or a figure for how many games support the feature.
That context matters: Game Help is not a universal walkthrough that knows every action you might try. It presents guidance the game creator has provided for supported goals. You might find help for one objective but not another, or receive only one format rather than a choice of text, images, and video. If the card does not show your current task, that does not necessarily mean you opened the wrong menu; the game may simply not provide a hint for that part.

Think of the two features as serving different purposes. Game Help is the more direct choice when you want guidance for a problem you are already facing. Other activity cards may help you see what you have completed, check a challenge, or launch a known activity quickly. PlayStation’s support instructions for customizing the Control Center describe cards as contextual, so the set and contents you see can change with the current game and situation.
Get a hint with the least spoiler exposure
- Start the game and open Control Center. Press the PS button on your controller. You do not need to leave the game to check for Game Help.
- Select Game Help. Find the Game Help card in Control Center. Its wording or placement may vary with the system language, game, and software version.
- Choose the objective you need. The card lists objectives for which help is available. Select the one that matches your current problem rather than opening unrelated objectives or activities.
- Begin with the smallest hint. Read or view only the first, least revealing hint offered. Some games provide a progression from a vague nudge to partial steps and eventually a full walkthrough. That sequence is not guaranteed: the developer determines what appears for each game and objective.
- Stop as soon as you are unstuck. If the nudge is enough, close the help and return to play. Do not continue to later hints or open an offered video just because it is there; those may disclose more than you need.
- Check for a hidden activity before revealing it. PlayStation says Game Help content that contains story spoilers appears as a hidden activity. Treat a prompt to reveal hidden details as an intentional warning and proceed only if you accept the risk.
- Return to the game. Press the PS button again to go back. If the game offers a way to keep help visible alongside play, you can pin it as described below.
These are PlayStation’s published access steps, not a guarantee that every game uses identical labels or offers every kind of hint. The key choice is yours: select a specific objective, use the least detailed help available, and reveal hidden content only when you are ready.
A helpful habit is to decide what you need before opening a card. For example, ask whether you need a direction, a reminder of a mechanic, or the exact sequence to finish an objective. Then choose the smallest amount of help that could answer that question. A nudge may be enough to make you reconsider the room or route you are exploring; a full walkthrough is more appropriate only if you want the complete solution. You can always return for more guidance, but you cannot unsee a revealed story detail.

If the objective has several hint stages, treat each one as a separate decision rather than advancing automatically. Read one, close the panel, and try it in the game. If it does not help, come back and decide whether the next level is worth the extra detail. That approach also helps you avoid opening a video when a short written hint would have done the job.
Choose a hint format and depth deliberately
Game Help content varies by title. A text hint may be enough to point you toward a solution without spelling it out; an image or video may show more of the relevant scene. Even when a game offers several stages of help, the order and amount of information are set by that game’s creator.

The table describes possible formats and levels, not a promise that a particular game has them all. Game Help content can also combine formats; check what is actually offered for your objective.
The safest choice depends on what you are trying to preserve. If you want to work out the puzzle yourself, a brief nudge is generally the better starting point than a video demonstration. If you are lost in a large area, a visual might make the route clearer, but it could also show locations or events you have not encountered. If you only need to remember how a mechanic works, look for text or an image before opening a longer solution when those options are available.

There is no universal spoiler ranking for the formats. A short text hint can still mention a plot point, while a video may simply show a familiar movement or interface. Use the hidden-activity label as the explicit warning PlayStation documents, and make a separate judgment about how much detail you are comfortable seeing in any ordinary, unhidden content. Since the developer supplies each game’s help, do not expect the same sequence or amount of detail from one title to another.
Understand what hidden spoiler warnings cover
PlayStation’s support guidance says Game Help content containing storyline spoilers is displayed as a hidden activity. That gives you a chance to choose whether to reveal that particular help item. It does not establish that the entire Control Center is spoiler-proof, or that every possible spoiler in every game will be hidden. Activity cards can display titles, progress, challenges, and routes into activities; if you want to avoid incidental discoveries, limit yourself to the Game Help card and objective you need.
A practical rule is to treat the hidden label as a boundary, not an invitation to test whether the spoiler matters: reveal it only if you are willing to learn the story information it may contain. If there is no help for your objective, or the available guidance would reveal too much, close the card and continue without it rather than searching through unrelated activities.
In particular, do not assume that every activity card will be hidden just because it is connected to a game with a story. A card’s title or summary can itself suggest where the story is heading, even if it is not a Game Help item marked as spoiler-bearing. The support guidance describes hidden Game Help content; it is not a blanket promise about every label, card, or piece of text shown in the Control Center.

If your priority is to avoid plot information altogether, keep your navigation narrow: open Game Help, choose the specific listed objective, and back out when you have enough. If an unfamiliar card catches your eye, you do not have to open it to make use of the hint you came for. The feature is optional assistance, not a required route through the game.
Keep help beside the game with Pin to Side
Some Game Help screens can stay visible beside gameplay. When the option is available, select Multitasking, then Pin to Side. This is useful when you need to refer to a hint while trying an action, rather than repeatedly switching between the game and guidance. It is an optional display arrangement; it does not change the hint’s content or spoiler level.
To change the arrangement or stop pinning, open the multitasking menu and use its available controls to reposition or close the pinned panel. The option depends on the game and help screen, so do not assume it will appear in every case.

Pinning is a convenience, not an extra layer of spoiler filtering. Decide what to open before pinning it, especially if the help item contains more detail than you need. If a small hint is enough, you can keep that hint beside play and avoid advancing to a later step. When the option is missing, use Game Help normally or return to the game; a lack of Pin to Side does not prevent you from accessing any help that is otherwise offered.
Activity cards: useful shortcuts, but browse with care
Activity cards can take you directly into an activity, and examples described by PlayStation include progress or challenge information and launching activities such as side quests. That shortcut saves navigation when you already know what you want to play. It is less suitable for a player avoiding story exposure who is simply seeking one hint: cards are contextual, and their titles or summaries may point to content beyond the current problem.
- For a narrow gameplay problem: select Game Help and the matching objective.
- For a known activity you want to launch: an activity card may provide a direct route into it.
- For spoiler avoidance: do not browse unrelated card titles or open activity details just to see what is available.
Cards can be useful when you already know what a challenge or activity is and want to resume it without navigating through the game’s own menus. PlayStation’s support guidance says the Control Center can be customized, and its examples show that activity cards may surface progress, challenges, or ways to jump into activities. Their purpose is convenience and context, not exclusively hint delivery.
That distinction helps when you are deciding what to open. If you want to launch a side quest you have already chosen, a card may be a handy shortcut. If you are looking for one clue in the middle of a main-story objective, an unrelated activity card is unnecessary exposure. You can use the targeted Game Help route without treating the rest of the Control Center as a checklist to browse.
Trophy hints and other objective help
PlayStation’s Game Help support instructions also describe help for trophies. As with other objectives, whether a particular trophy has guidance depends on the title and the content its creator supplied. If you are working toward a trophy and want a small nudge, check whether the relevant help is available, then apply the same progressive approach: start with the least detailed option and stop once you know what to try.
Trophy names and descriptions can themselves hint at a requirement or an event, so spoiler-conscious players should be selective about which item they open. Do not assume that every trophy has help, or that the available guidance will be a step-by-step solution. If a trophy is tied to story progression, consider whether you want to know the requirement before continuing through the game. Game Help can make an available hint easier to reach, but it cannot remove the tradeoff between getting a direct answer and discovering the requirement on your own.
Community Game Help and your privacy settings
Community Game Help is a separate, optional feature for contributing eligible gameplay captures that may appear as help videos for other players. You do not need to enable it to view Game Help. PlayStation documents the setting at Settings > Captures & Broadcasts > Auto Captures > Community Game Help. Only adult accounts can participate, and PlayStation describes a monthly capture limit. The available setting also lets you view videos you have published.

PlayStation says webcam footage, microphone activity, and Party chat are not captured or uploaded for this program. If you opt out, future capture and upload stop; PlayStation’s support guidance also says published videos are permanently removed, including from hints where they appeared. Consider that removal effect before changing the setting if you have contributed captures.
This setting is about contributing captures, not about whether you can use ordinary Game Help. If you only want to watch a help item, you do not need to turn on Community Game Help. If you are considering contributing, use the documented setting to check the feature and its monthly capture limit, and remember that opting out has a lasting consequence for videos already published. The feature page’s exclusions are specific: PlayStation says webcam footage, microphone activity, and Party chat are not captured or uploaded for this program.
What PlayStation has said about why Game Help exists
In a June 11, 2021 PlayStation.Blog post, Adil Sherwani, Director of Platform Planning & Management at SIE, described the design goal this way: “Because all players have different preferences, the goal is to allow players to have control over how much help they are receiving.” He also reported that PlayStation’s development research found “Almost half get stuck in a game on a weekly basis, and more than half said they encounter spoilers when they seek out help for a game, or spend too much time searching for the tip they are looking for.” This is a statement about PlayStation’s own research summary; the post does not name the research organization, sample, or a separately published report, so the figures should not be treated as independently verified industry-wide statistics.
The practical value of that design idea is control over how far you go: use a hint when you want one, choose its depth when the game offers a choice, and stop before it becomes a complete solution. The feature is not a guarantee of spoiler-free play, but it gives you a targeted place to look instead of searching broadly for a walkthrough or a forum post that may reveal more than your question requires.

- No Game Help card appears: the current game, objective, or context may not offer it. Support varies by title, and there is no complete current support list.
- The objective is not listed: help is supplied per objective, so the feature may cover a different part of the game rather than the step you need.
- Only a video or detailed solution appears: no progressively lighter option is guaranteed. Decide whether the offered level of disclosure is acceptable, and back out if it is not.
- You see an unfamiliar activity card: avoid opening it if its title or details could reveal a story development. Return to the specific Game Help objective instead.
- Pin to Side is unavailable: the option is offered only in supported contexts; use the guidance normally or return to gameplay.
- A menu label differs: PlayStation’s instructions and system labels may vary by localization or software version. Look for the Game Help card or the corresponding multitasking controls rather than assuming every screen is identical.
If you have checked the specific Game Help card and there is no suitable hint, the least spoiler-prone option may be to leave it closed. You can retry the objective, use a game mechanic you already know, or return to Game Help later if you decide a more complete answer is worth it. There is no published, current title-by-title list to consult for guaranteed availability, so the card shown in your own game is the practical check.
Also distinguish a missing option from a settings issue. Community Game Help is optional and is not required just to view Game Help, while Pin to Side is an optional display choice. If the guidance itself is absent, the game or objective may not support it; enabling a separate contribution feature will not make every objective eligible for a hint.

Are all PS5 games and objectives supported by Game Help?
No. Game Help depends on the title, objective, and content supplied by that game’s creator. PlayStation has not published a complete current list of supported titles or a total number of supported games.
Do activity cards always contain hints?
No. Depending on the game and context, cards can show progress, features, trophies or challenges, or provide shortcuts into activities. For a specific gameplay problem, use the matching Game Help objective rather than browsing unrelated cards.
Does the hidden label make the whole PS5 Control Center spoiler-free?

When the game and help screen offer it, select Multitasking and then Pin to Side. You can use the multitasking menu to reposition or stop pinning. Availability varies, and pinning does not change the hint’s content.
Do I need Community Game Help enabled to view hints?
