If your Siri Remote is missing, you can use the Apple TV Remote control in iPhone Control Center to locate it. The supported setup requires an iPhone running iOS 17 or later and an Apple TV running tvOS 17 or later. Open Control Center, tap Apple TV Remote, choose your Apple TV from the device list, then tap Find beside the lost remote. Walk in the direction shown on screen: the indicator changes from far to near and finally here as you approach.
What Precision Finding does for a Siri Remote
Precision Finding uses the iPhone’s proximity guidance to help you search for a compatible Apple TV remote. Instead of relying only on memory or randomly checking cushions, you follow an on-screen indicator that responds as you move. Apple describes three distance states: far, near and here. The circle grows as you get closer, giving you a practical direction and distance cue.
The feature is intended for a remote that is still associated with your Apple TV. It is different from simply opening the on-screen Apple TV Remote on your phone: the phone-control feature lets you operate the television, while Find actively helps locate the physical Siri Remote.

Availability is not identical across every Siri Remote, iPhone model or country. Apple’s support instructions cover locating an Apple TV Remote or a Siri Remote (2nd generation or later), while Apple’s newer fourth-generation announcement specifies additional iPhone requirements for Precision Finding and notes that availability varies by region.

Requirements and compatibility
Check these conditions before troubleshooting the interface. A missing Find button is usually caused by an unsupported generation, an outdated operating system, an unsupported iPhone model or regional availability.

Apple says Find My support is available on Siri Remote (2nd generation or later). For the newest model, Apple identifies the fourth-generation Siri Remote as compatible with Precision Finding when paired with iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, or iPhone 17 and later, except iPhone 17e, with the latest iOS software. The company also says feature availability varies by region, so a technically eligible combination may not expose every feature in every market.
Before you start: confirm software and hardware
Update the iPhone
The official locating workflow requires iOS 17 or later. If the iPhone is below that version, update it before looking for the remote. Fourth-generation Precision Finding has the stricter requirement of the latest iOS software on a supported iPhone model.

The Apple TV must run tvOS 17 or later for the supported workflow. If the television is currently controlled through another method, use that access to bring the Apple TV up to date before trying Find again.

Identify the remote generation
Apple’s general support wording covers Siri Remote (2nd generation or later), but the newest feature set belongs to the fourth-generation model. If you are unsure which remote you own, compare the model with the Apple TV and remote documentation you received. Do not assume that every Siri Remote has the fourth-generation sound option.
Step-by-step: locate the remote with iPhone
- Bring the iPhone near the Apple TV setup. The phone needs to communicate with the Apple TV associated with the remote. Keep the Apple TV powered and connected as usual.
- Open Control Center. On iPhone X and later, swipe down from the upper-right corner. On iPhone SE, iPhone 8 and earlier, swipe up from the bottom edge.
- Tap Apple TV Remote. This opens the iPhone control for Apple TV.
- Open the device list. If more than one Apple TV is available, use the list to select the Apple TV that was paired with the missing remote.
- Tap Find beside the lost remote. The Find control appears next to the remote when the combination of remote, Apple TV, iPhone, software and region supports locating.
- Follow the on-screen direction. Move through the room while watching the indicator. The status progresses from far to near and then here. Use those changes to narrow the search instead of checking locations in a fixed order.
- Search the immediate area when the status says here. Look under cushions, beside furniture and in other places where the remote could be hidden from view. The indicator identifies proximity; it does not physically reveal the object.
- Use sound if you have the fourth-generation remote. When the remote is close but obscured, activate the sound option shown by the supported interface. Apple says sound playback is exclusive to the newest Siri Remote.
How to search efficiently once the indicator changes
When the status says far
Stay in the room or area where the Apple TV is installed and move methodically toward the locations where the remote is most often used. The far state means you should continue changing your position rather than inspecting one small spot repeatedly.
When the status says near
Reduce the size of your search area. Walk around the seating area, coffee table and nearby surfaces while watching for the circle to grow. Check the spaces around—not only on top of—furniture, because a remote can slide between cushions or behind a table.
When the status says here
Stop making large movements and inspect the immediate surroundings. Check beneath cushions, throws and magazines, around the sides and backs of furniture, and on the floor beneath the seating area. If your fourth-generation remote offers sound playback, use it now; the audible signal is intended for a remote that is nearby but hidden.

Why the Find button may be missing
The iPhone is on an older iOS version
The locating workflow requires iOS 17 or later. Install a supported update, reopen Control Center and check Apple TV Remote again. A fourth-generation remote also requires one of the supported iPhone families identified by Apple and the latest iOS software.
The Apple TV is on an older tvOS version
tvOS 17 or later is required for the official workflow. Update the Apple TV using another available control method, then return to the iPhone’s Apple TV Remote interface.
The remote is not a supported generation
Apple’s instructions refer to an Apple TV Remote or Siri Remote (2nd generation or later). An older remote may not expose the locating control. Check the remote generation before treating a missing button as an iPhone problem.

The selected Apple TV is wrong
The device list can contain more than one Apple TV. Select the Apple TV that was paired with the missing remote. A different Apple TV may show the remote-control interface but not the expected Find control for your lost remote.

Your iPhone model or region is not eligible
For the fourth-generation Siri Remote, Apple lists iPhone Duo, iPhone Air and iPhone 17 or later, excluding iPhone 17e, with the latest iOS software. Apple also qualifies availability by region. If your software and remote generation are correct but Find remains unavailable, the iPhone model or regional rollout may be the limiting factor.
The remote is out of communication range or no longer associated
The locating feature depends on the Apple TV and remote relationship. If the remote is far outside the expected area, has been replaced, or is no longer paired with that Apple TV, the iPhone may not present a usable locating control. In that situation, use the phone as a fallback controller and consider a compatible replacement.

Use the iPhone as the remote
Apple supports setting up and using Apple TV Remote in Control Center on an iPhone or iPad. This does not locate the missing physical remote, but it lets you navigate the Apple TV while you continue searching or decide whether replacement is necessary.
Open Control Center, tap Apple TV Remote, select the Apple TV from the device list and use the on-screen controls. The exact controls available depend on the Apple TV selected, but the phone can provide temporary access without the physical Siri Remote.

Check whether the remote is damaged rather than merely hidden
If the remote cannot be found after the indicator reaches the immediate area, search for signs that it was moved, dropped or damaged. A damaged remote may not respond as expected even when it is nearby. Test it after recovery before assuming the locating feature failed.
Replace an unrecoverable remote
Apple says a compatible Siri Remote, Apple TV Remote or Apple Remote can be used depending on the Apple TV model, and a replacement can be purchased. Compatibility matters: choose a remote intended for your specific Apple TV rather than assuming every Apple-branded remote works with every generation.
Replacement option: Siri Remote (4th generation)
Apple sells the Siri Remote (4th generation) separately. Apple’s store listing identifies compatibility with Apple TV 4K (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation) and Apple TV HD. The remote uses a rechargeable battery and charges through USB-C; the charging cable or power adapter is sold separately.

A replacement is the practical path when the original is incompatible with the locating workflow, physically damaged, or still missing after a complete search. Verify the Apple TV model and the replacement’s stated compatibility before ordering.

Limits of the feature
- Precision Finding does not provide a published recovery-rate guarantee. Apple has not published a controlled recovery statistic for this feature.
- The visual states indicate proximity; they do not identify the exact hiding place.
- The sound option is not a universal Siri Remote feature. Apple says it is exclusive to the newest Siri Remote.
- Fourth-generation feature availability depends on the supported iPhone families, the latest iOS software and region.
- The iPhone fallback controls the Apple TV but does not make the lost physical remote ring or reveal its location.
