Meta Muse is an agentic assistant: you describe a goal, connect the services it needs, and let it carry out multi-step work across the web and those services. To keep control, inspect every approval request that appears before allowing a consequential action such as sending an email or completing a purchase. A prompt is a permission checkpoint, not a guarantee that Muse is correct or that every step will be paused.
This guide follows Meta’s September 2026 launch and safety descriptions. Availability, age requirements, regions, partner integrations and subscription terms can change, so confirm the current details in the Muse app or at the official service.
What Meta Muse does and what an approval request means
Meta announced Muse on September 8, 2026, describing it as a personal AI agent powered by Muse Spark. At launch it was rolling out in the United States for adults aged 18 and over on iOS, Android, WhatsApp and muse.ai. The service can browse, fill out forms and coordinate several steps instead of merely returning text. Meta also says Muse can continue working after you close the app and return when something changes or when it needs your decision.
An approval request is a permission decision presented in the Muse client. It is not a conversational “yes” that Muse interprets from the chat. According to Meta AI Research, the run pauses while the request is pending and your response is sent to Sentinel, the system that mediates connector actions and outbound network requests. Sentinel can allow, deny or ask you, depending on the action and the permissions already granted.

Do not assume that every operation generates a prompt. Meta says read-only actions, actions you previously allowed and actions it determines to be demonstrably low risk may continue without interruption. Conversely, an approval checkpoint does not prove that the requested action is safe, accurate or free from prompt-injection influence. Meta’s own safety article states that Muse will sometimes make mistakes and that prompt injection remains an open problem (Meta AI Research, September 2026).
Check availability and prepare your account
Confirm where you can use Muse
The launch announcement described access through the Muse app, WhatsApp and muse.ai, with iOS and Android support. The Associated Press reported that the initial service was limited to the United States and adults 18 and older (AP, September 8, 2026). Treat those as launch conditions rather than permanent global requirements. Open the current app or website and check the eligibility notice shown for your account before relying on a feature.
Decide what Muse should be allowed to access
Have the minimum services ready for the task. For example, a travel-planning request may need a browser and a calendar, while an email task needs the mail connector. Meta says people choose which apps Muse connects to and how much access each app receives. Where the connector supports it, read and write access are separate: read access lets Muse view information, while write access can send, edit or otherwise change it.
Start with read access when you are gathering information or drafting. Add write access only when you are ready for Muse to perform the change. Meta says you can later change access or disconnect a service, so an authorization is not necessarily permanent.
Use Muse from a task to a completed action
- Open a supported client. Launch the Muse app, message Muse through WhatsApp, or open muse.ai if that option is available to your account.
- State the goal and boundaries. Use ordinary language, but include constraints that affect safety: the account to use, the intended recipient, a spending ceiling, a deadline, or a requirement to draft rather than send. For example: “Find three refundable flights for next month, save the options, and do not book anything.”
- Watch which connections Muse requests. Approve only the apps needed for that goal. If an email task asks for calendar, storage or another unrelated connector, stop and reconsider why it is needed.
- Select the narrowest access offered. Choose read instead of write for an information-gathering phase. If the system offers a one-time or task-scoped grant, prefer that to a broad or ongoing grant unless the recurring workflow genuinely requires it.
- Let routine work proceed, but monitor the run. Muse may browse pages, read permitted data or perform other low-risk steps without asking each time. It can keep working after you close the app and notify you when it needs approval or when a change occurs.
- Stop at each consequential approval request. Read the action, account or connector, destination, recipient, item and amount shown. Approve only if those details match your intended task. Reject the request or revise the task when anything is unexpected.
- Inspect the audit trail. After the run, review the record of actions taken and planned. Look for unexpected destinations, extra data access or steps that were not part of your instructions.
- Reduce access when finished. Change a connector from write to read, revoke a connection or disconnect the service if you no longer need it.
Understand the permission choices before you approve

Meta’s technical explanation says an approval is bound to the relevant connector, destination and use case. Sentinel may offer one-time, session, task, time-limited or perpetual options; the choices shown can vary by action. Do not treat a prior approval for one recipient or use case as permission for another.

How to review an approval request
Read the requested operation, not just the button
Identify the verb and its consequence. “Send,” “publish,” “delete,” “submit,” “buy,” “transfer” and “share” create an external effect. “Draft,” “summarize,” “search” and “preview” generally do not, although the connected data still deserves scrutiny. If the wording is vague, reject the request and ask Muse to explain the exact step.
Verify the account and connector
Check which email account, calendar, storage account, payment method or other connected service is named. A task intended for a work mailbox should not be approved on a personal mailbox. If more than one account is connected, make the intended account explicit in your follow-up instruction.
Verify the destination and recipient
For messages, inspect every recipient, copied address and attachment. For uploads or form submissions, verify the website, organization and destination record. A legitimate-looking page can still contain instructions that attempt to redirect an agent; the destination shown in the approval card is the one you should evaluate.
Verify values that cannot be undone
Check dates, quantities, names, addresses, selected options and any text that will be submitted. For purchases, verify the merchant, item, variant, quantity, total price, shipping details, taxes or fees shown, and payment method. If any value differs from your instruction, reject the request rather than assuming Muse will correct it later.
Choose an approval scope deliberately
If the client offers a single-use or task-limited approval, use it for a one-off action. A broader grant can reduce interruptions but also permits more activity within its scope. Read the expiration or duration displayed by Sentinel and do not select perpetual access for convenience alone.

Approve, reject or revise
- Approve only when the complete request is expected and the scope is appropriate.
- Reject when the destination, amount, recipient, connector or requested permission is wrong.
- Revise the task when the goal is right but the parameters are wrong; state the corrected values and ask Muse to show the new request.
Meta says the response goes directly from the Muse client to Sentinel while execution is paused. Do not rely on a casual chat reply after the fact to reverse an action that has already been approved.
Reviewing email actions safely
Drafting is different from sending
Ask Muse to draft first when the content is sensitive or the recipient list is uncertain. A useful instruction is: “Draft a reply, show me the full text and attachments, and do not send.” Read the draft in the client, verify quoted text and attachments, then grant send permission only when you are satisfied.
Use the send approval as a final checklist
- Confirm the From account and every To, Cc and Bcc address.
- Open or inspect each attachment and verify that it contains no unintended personal or confidential data.
- Check the subject, dates, figures, links and commitments in the message.
- Make sure the approval is for this specific message and not a wider permission to send future mail.
Meta’s launch example identifies sending an email as the kind of change that can cause Muse to return for approval. That does not mean every email-related step will prompt: reading a mailbox or using a previously allowed operation may proceed under the connector’s existing policy.
Reviewing purchases before payment
Website checkout with a saved payment credential
Meta’s technical article says Muse detects checkout on a website where a payment credential is already on file and requests human approval with exact purchase details. Compare the merchant, item, quantity, total and delivery information in that request with what you intended. Do not approve a request that shows a substituted product, changed quantity, unexpected recurring charge or unfamiliar merchant.
Muse wallet checkout
For Muse wallet checkout, Meta says every payment receives human approval and a single-use card is used. The launch article names Stripe Link as the launch partner. Treat the payment approval as per-transaction: review the amount and merchant even if you have approved earlier steps in the same shopping task.

Payment methods and future availability
Meta described Shop Pay as coming soon at launch, so its current availability should be checked in the app rather than assumed. The sources do not establish current subscription prices, all payment partners or present regional availability. Never infer those details from an old checkout screen or a third-party description.
A purchase approval checklist
- Match the merchant domain and store name to the shop you intended.
- Match the exact product, model, size, color, quantity and condition.
- Check the item price, shipping, tax, discount and final total.
- Verify the delivery name and address.
- Confirm whether the order is one-time, recurring or a subscription.
- Verify the payment method and, for a wallet transaction, that the displayed card is the expected single-use instrument.
- Approve only after all six categories agree with your plan; otherwise reject and correct the task.
Use the audit trail to reconstruct what happened
Meta says Muse presents an audit trail of actions taken and actions it plans to take. Review it after any task that touched external services, even when no approval appeared. The trail can reveal that Muse read more information than you expected, followed a different path through a website or queued another step after an approval.
What to look for
- Connector and account used for each operation.
- Websites visited and destinations contacted.
- Data read, forms filled and files attached or uploaded.
- Actions that were allowed automatically versus those approved by you.
- Pending or planned steps that have not yet executed.
If the record does not match your instructions, disconnect the affected service, change its access level and report the unexpected behavior through the current Muse support path. Preserve the relevant audit details before closing the task if you need to investigate an unauthorized change.

Meta describes a dedicated cloud virtual machine for each user’s agent and data. Its announcement says credentials are not visible to the main agent, while Sentinel governs connector actions and outbound network requests. These are design claims from Meta, not independent proof that every failure is prevented.
Meta also says Muse conversations and virtual-machine data are not shared with its ad systems. The technical safety article cautions that browsing or transactions may indirectly influence ads elsewhere, so do not interpret the statement as a guarantee that using Muse can never affect advertising. If model-training use matters to you, inspect the current settings and use the available opt-out control; Meta says users can opt out of their interactions being used to train its AI models.

Practical privacy habits
- Connect only the account containing the information needed for the task.
- Prefer read access while experimenting and revoke write access afterward.
- Do not paste secrets into a prompt when a connector can provide the data directly.
- Check the audit trail for uploads, recipients and outbound destinations.
- Review training and data-use settings before handling sensitive material.
Why an approval prompt may not appear
The action is read-only or low risk
Meta says Sentinel may allow read-only, previously allowed or demonstrably low-risk actions without interruption. A missing prompt does not necessarily indicate a malfunction. Check the audit trail to see what occurred and what remains planned.
You granted a wider scope earlier
A session, task, time-bounded or perpetual grant can cover later operations within its defined connector, destination and use case. Open the connector’s settings, narrow the permission or disconnect it before restarting the task if the scope is broader than intended.
The task has not reached the consequential step
Muse may still be browsing or preparing a form. It can continue after you close the app and return when a change occurs or approval is needed. Reopen the client and inspect the run status rather than sending a second, conflicting instruction.
The approval card is unclear
Reject an ambiguous request and ask Muse to restate the exact operation, account, destination and values. If the details remain unclear, cancel the task and remove the connector authorization.
What to do when Muse makes a mistake
Meta explicitly acknowledges that Muse can make mistakes, and its safety article identifies prompt injection as an unresolved problem. A malicious webpage, document or message can contain instructions aimed at manipulating an agent. Treat text Muse encounters on the web as untrusted content, not as authority to change your original goal.
- Stop the run or reject the pending approval.
- Record the unexpected instruction, destination or value from the audit trail.
- Revoke or narrow the affected connector, especially write access.
- Check the external service directly for messages sent, records changed or purchases placed.
- Restart with a constrained task that names the allowed account, destination and spending or data limits.
Approval checkpoints reduce the chance of an unnoticed external action, but they do not validate the underlying reasoning. You remain responsible for reading the request and checking the result.
Cost and plan information
At launch, Meta said Muse was free for most needs with subscription plans for people who wanted to do more. The supplied launch sources do not state current prices, quotas or plan limits. Check the in-app billing screen or official Muse service for the terms that apply to your account and region before relying on a free allowance or subscription feature.
A safe operating pattern for everyday use
- Plan: Write the intended outcome, allowed accounts, destinations and limits before opening Muse.
- Connect minimally: Add only the required services and begin with read access.
- Stage: Ask Muse to gather information or prepare a draft before granting write permission.
- Inspect: Read every consequential approval card, including purchase details and recipients.
- Constrain: Select one-time or task-scoped approval when available.
- Verify: Check the external service and audit trail after completion.
- Revoke: Remove access or switch back to read-only when the task is over.
This pattern lets Muse handle multi-step work while keeping irreversible decisions in a deliberate human checkpoint. It also accounts for the cases Meta says may proceed without a prompt and for the possibility of mistakes or prompt injection.
