Meta AI for Mac is designed to open over the app you are using: press Option-Space for Quick Launch, attach a desktop window when you want help with its contents, or hold Fn to dictate into text fields. Meta labels the Mac download beta. These are the Mac-specific controls Meta documents; features advertised for Meta AI on mobile or the web are not necessarily available in the Mac app.
How do I get Meta AI on my Mac?
Download the app from Meta’s official Meta AI for Mac download page. Meta’s assistant page labels the Mac download “Beta.” The published download information does not specify precise macOS or Mac-chip requirements, whether a Meta account is required, or Mac-specific usage limits and pricing. Check the download page for current availability and setup information rather than relying on requirements reported elsewhere.
How do I open Meta AI on my Mac?
- Open Quick Launch: While using another app, press Option-Space. Meta says this brings up a prompt bar over your current app.
- Enter a request: Use the prompt bar to ask a question, get writing help, generate an image, or start a conversation.
- Add desktop context if useful: Choose Attach a Window to point the assistant at a window on your desktop, then ask a question or describe the task.
These are the controls described on Meta’s Mac download page. Meta’s published instructions do not detail every first-run permission prompt or interface step.

Can Meta AI see what’s on my Mac screen?
Meta describes an Attach a Window control that lets the assistant work with context from a selected desktop window. Treat that as sharing the selected window’s content with the AI experience. Before attaching one, consider whether it contains information you are comfortable sharing, such as private messages, customer details, financial information, or confidential work.

This documented window attachment is not evidence that Meta AI continuously sees everything on your screen. The Mac page describes selecting a window as the way to provide screen context.
How do I use voice dictation with Meta AI on Mac?
Hold Fn and speak to dictate into text fields in other apps. Meta says the feature transcribes speech and removes filler words. It is a dictation feature, so review the text before sending or saving it; Meta does not promise perfect transcription.

Because dictation can capture speech that becomes text in another app, consider who or what is audible before using it, particularly when working with sensitive information.

Broader Meta AI capabilities are not guaranteed on Mac
Meta’s US App Store listing describes features for its app that include creating and editing images, analyzing uploaded files such as PDFs and spreadsheets, product and local recommendations, voice interaction, Thinking mode, and Incognito Chat. The listing says features can vary by country and language, and that some roll out over time. It identifies Muse Spark as the model family powering the mobile app; that alone does not confirm that the Mac app includes every listed capability.
In a July 2026 company update, Meta said Meta AI was gaining planning and follow-through, daily briefings, research synthesis, and slide generation. The company said those capabilities were beginning to roll out in select markets and would expand to more countries and surfaces. That announcement concerns the broader service, not a guarantee that these tools are available in the Mac app.

Meta AI is also available through web and mobile experiences and in WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook, but the tools and settings can differ by surface. Meta reported more than 1 billion monthly users of Meta AI overall in October 2025; that company figure is not a count of Mac app users.

Meta’s Mac download page does not establish a complete country-by-country availability list for the app or each of its features. Meta’s US App Store listing warns that availability can vary by country and language, and the company has described some broader Meta AI capabilities as selective rollouts. Check the current official download page and the relevant app listing from your location; do not assume a feature appearing in one region or on one surface is available everywhere on Mac.

What should I know about privacy and personalization?
Meta’s October 2025 announcement said that, effective December 16, 2025, it would use interactions with its AI features to personalize content and ad recommendations in most regions. Meta said Accounts Center linking determines some cross-account uses, and that conversations about sensitive topics—including health, religion, and political views—would not be used to show ads. These are Meta’s descriptions of its policy, not an independent audit. Read Meta’s October 2025 announcement for its account of the policy.
For Mac use, the clearest moments to make a sharing decision are attaching a window and dictating speech into another app. Meta also offers Meta AI through a wider ecosystem: for example, the Meta AI app can manage paired Ray-Ban Meta glasses, but glasses are optional and are not needed for the Mac app’s documented controls.
What is not established about Meta AI for Mac?
The official materials cited here do not specify exact Mac hardware or macOS requirements, whether a Meta account is mandatory, Mac-specific usage limits or pricing, or the current country-by-country rollout of each Mac feature. Meta’s published documentation supports the three controls covered above, but does not establish that the Mac app offers every capability listed for the mobile or web service.
