macOS includes an ipconfig command, but it does not use Windows syntax: ipconfig /all is not the Mac command. To check an address, identify the active network interface and run ipconfig getifaddr with that interface. To renew a DHCP lease, use the Network settings in System Settings.
Find your Mac’s network interface
First map the hardware port to its device identifier. In Terminal, run:
networksetup -listallhardwareportsFind the port in use, such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and note its device identifier. Names vary between Macs, so do not assume Wi-Fi is always en0. Apple documents this command as listing hardware port names and their associated device identifiers: Change TCP/IP settings on Mac.

Use the identifier from the hardware-port list in this command, replacing en0 if your Mac shows another name:

ipconfig getifaddr en0The macOS ipconfig manual describes getifaddr as printing an IP address for the first network service associated with that interface. It may return no output if no service is configured or active on the interface. This is an IPv4 address lookup, not a display of every setting shown by Windows ipconfig /all: macOS ipconfig manual.
Inspect DHCP options and packet information
For DHCP/BOOTP details, the macOS command offers getoption and getpacket. Use the correct interface identifier:

ipconfig getpacket en0The first two examples request router and DNS-server options; the last requests packet information. These are macOS subcommands for inspecting available configuration, not Windows switches. See the macOS ipconfig manual for the command’s supported forms.

networksetup -listallnetworkservicesApple documents networksetup -getinfo for viewing information about a service and networksetup -setdhcp for configuring a service to use DHCP. If you intend to change a service’s IPv4 mode to DHCP, use the exact service name listed on your Mac. For example:
sudo networksetup -setdhcp "Wi-Fi"This is a configuration change, not a query or a simple lease-renew command. Only use it if that service is meant to obtain its IPv4 configuration through DHCP. Apple’s networksetup command reference describes the utility and its service-level settings.

Renew a DHCP lease in System Settings
For a straightforward lease renewal, Apple documents this route:

- Select the network service to renew, then click Details.
- Open TCP/IP and choose Renew DHCP Lease.
- Click OK.
The renewal control is available when the selected service uses DHCP. Apple’s instructions are in Change TCP/IP settings on Mac. Renewing a lease can help with some connection problems, but it does not guarantee that every network issue will be fixed; Apple treats it as one possible troubleshooting step in If your Mac isn’t connecting to the internet over Wi-Fi.

Choose the right command for the task

If the result is empty or the connection still fails
- No address appears: Confirm the interface identifier using
networksetup -listallhardwareportsand check that the corresponding service is configured and active. - You need to renew a lease: Use the TCP/IP pane for the selected DHCP service rather than treating Windows
/renewor/allswitches as macOS syntax. - The Mac remains offline: Lease renewal is only one possible step. Check the selected service and broader network connection rather than assuming that renewing the lease will resolve every cause.
- You need IPv6 settings: An IPv4 address lookup is not an IPv6 configuration check. System Settings exposes IPv4 and IPv6 separately, and the options available depend on the service.
