Hytale’s five new Goblin gadgets turn difficult terrain, distant viewpoints and large mining jobs into manageable tasks. In Exploration Mode, the Scrap Drill clears a 2×2 patch of blocks, the Scrap Glider provides momentum-based gliding, Rocket Boots add a double jump, the Hookshot works with Hook Anchors for point-to-point travel, and the Spyglass magnifies distant activity.
These items are mobility, scouting and resource-gathering tools rather than construction wands. They can help you reach, inspect and prepare a building location, but current official information does not say that any gadget places blocks, edits structures or has a dedicated building interaction. Exact acquisition recipes and several default controls are also not documented publicly, so use the in-game prompts and current keybinds rather than relying on old previews.
Availability and what has changed
Hytale’s October 12, 2026 Chapter I: Out of the Breach announcement states that the new content, including these gadgets, is available in Exploration Mode. That release status supersedes September 2026 Update 7 notes, which described much of Chapter I as pre-release content reached initially through Creative Mode.
Earlier notes remain useful for mechanics that were documented during development. They mention the Scrap Drill’s ability to break and loot metal blocks, the Scrap Glider’s Sprint binding for diving and climbing, and a Spyglass stamina-recovery bug fixed in Update 7. Those notes also show why you should recheck behavior after updates: Hytale describes Early Access as rough and unfinished, and its July gadget preview said Goblin gear is deliberately improvised and subject to balance tuning.

The last column is important: the public descriptions establish what the items do, not a complete control scheme or crafting guide. Treat any older community keybind list as potentially obsolete until the current game confirms it.
Using the Scrap Drill
What it changes
The Scrap Drill breaks a 2×2 area of blocks in one action instead of removing one block at a time. Earlier official notes also say it can break and loot metal blocks. Development notes mention changes to its durability and animation, so the current item’s endurance may differ from an older preview.
A safe mining procedure
- Inspect the target. Check that the four-block area in front of the drill contains material you actually intend to remove. A 2×2 action can open more space than a normal pick or tool swing.
- Start with a test patch. Remove one section at the edge of the vein, tunnel or foundation footprint. Confirm which blocks the current version accepts before committing to a large wall.
- Work in a measured pattern. Advance in rows or columns and leave support or boundary blocks where your design needs them. The drill’s area effect is most useful when the surface is regular.
- Watch durability. Because durability was adjusted during development, check the item’s current durability indicator rather than assuming a preview value. Carry a conventional backup tool if the trip depends on completing the excavation.
- Collect and inspect drops. The earlier notes specifically identify metal-block breaking and looting; verify the resulting drops in your current world before planning an exact material count.
Best uses for survival and construction
- Mining: Use it on broad, safe faces where four adjacent blocks can be removed without exposing an unwanted shaft or hazard.
- Foundation preparation: Clear a level patch for a small structure faster than single-block digging.
- Passage opening: Widen a route through ordinary terrain when a 2×2 opening matches the dimensions you need.
- Material testing: Use the first few actions to learn how the current build handles stone, soil and metal before using it near a finished structure.
The Scrap Drill does not, on the documented evidence, place replacement blocks, preserve a building pattern or perform automatic excavation planning. It is a faster breaker, not a structure-editing system.
Using the Scrap Glider
How its movement works
The Scrap Glider enables gliding, diving and climbing while retaining momentum when deployed. That makes it different from a simple fall-slowing item: your approach angle and existing speed affect where you go. The release announcement specifically warns that landing with low Stamina can be difficult.
A practical route
- Choose a launch point with a recovery option. A ridge, tower or other open high point gives you room to gain distance without immediately colliding with terrain.
- Check Stamina before deployment. Starting with a nearly empty bar reduces your margin for a controlled landing. Rest or move on foot until you have enough reserve for the flight and approach.
- Deploy using the current in-game prompt. The reviewed official material does not identify the default deployment key, so do not assume a keyboard or controller binding from a preview.
- Use the documented Sprint behavior carefully. Pre-release notes associate the Sprint keybind with diving and ascending. Confirm that binding in your current control menu, then test both directions over a safe area.
- Set up the landing before the final descent. Aim for open ground rather than a narrow roof, cliff edge or tree canopy. Preserve Stamina for the last part of the approach.
Where it helps
The glider is suited to long, continuous movement: crossing a ravine, descending from a mountain or approaching a distant plateau while retaining momentum. It is less predictable than walking when you need to stop on a precise one-block position, so switch to ordinary movement near a delicate build site.

For building, use it to survey several possible locations from above and to return to a high work platform. The official descriptions do not promise a special aerial construction mode; any building benefit comes from easier movement and visibility.

What the double jump provides
Rocket Boots provide a double jump. In practical terms, the second jump can add height during traversal, help you reach a ledge or give you another chance to clear a small gap. Those are applications of the confirmed jump function, not separately documented special abilities.
Using them without wasting the second jump
- Approach the obstacle on foot. Start close enough that the extra jump is used for the ledge or gap, not merely to correct a poor run-up.
- Keep a landing surface in view. A second jump creates height but does not remove the need for a safe place to land.
- Reserve the extra jump for the critical moment. Trigger the game’s current second-jump action only after the first jump has established your trajectory; the exact input should be confirmed in the active control scheme.
- Use a different gadget when distance is the problem. Rocket Boots solve a short vertical or gap problem. The Glider is better for sustained travel, while a Hookshot is better when a reachable anchor gives you a direct route.
At a building site, the boots are useful for reaching a raised platform, inspecting a roofline or recovering from a short fall. They do not establish a block-placement feature or automatic scaffolding.
Using the Hookshot and Hook Anchors
The basic relationship
The Hookshot and Hook Anchors form a pair: the anchor provides the point and the Hookshot provides the rapid movement toward it. Official descriptions characterize the result as zipping across points in the world. They do not specify the aiming reticle, firing button, range, cooldown or whether anchors can be moved after placement.
Planning a crossing
- Identify a visible destination. Pick an anchor point you can clearly see and that appears to have a safe landing area around it.
- Check the gap on foot first. Confirm that a missed connection will not send you into a fatal drop, hostile area or unfinished excavation.
- Use the current aim and fire prompts. Because the reviewed sources do not establish default controls, follow the on-screen instruction and your active keybinds.
- Stabilize after arrival. Stop and orient yourself before chaining another movement. A rapid arrival at the edge of a platform can turn a successful zip into a fall.
- For construction routes, prepare anchors deliberately. Place or retain anchors where they support repeated trips between a work platform, storage area and ground level, subject to the current game’s placement rules.
The Hookshot is a targeted traversal tool, not a replacement for the Glider. It is strongest when the destination is known and an anchor is available; it is less useful when you are exploring an unknown horizon with no prepared points.

Using the Spyglass
What zoom is good for
The Spyglass zooms in on distant activity. That makes it a scouting instrument: you can inspect a far-off route, landmark or possible building site before spending time walking there. The scouting use is a practical interpretation of the confirmed zoom function, not a separately announced detection system.
A scouting routine
- Find a stable observation point. A hill, tower or open clearing gives you a less obstructed view than a dense forest or narrow cave.
- Zoom toward the route or site. Use the current in-game control prompt; the reviewed official descriptions do not name a universal zoom key.
- Scan for terrain and activity. Look for slopes, gaps, open ground and movement that could affect your planned route.
- Unzoom before moving. Update 7 fixed a bug in which zooming with the Spyglass prevented Stamina from recovering. Even with that fix, normal movement gives you better awareness of immediate hazards.
- Record a decision, not a promise. A distant view can identify a promising area, but terrain and resources still need to be checked at ground level.
Use the Spyglass before deploying the Glider or committing to a Hookshot route. It costs less time than discovering a cliff, blocked passage or unsuitable foundation after you have already crossed the distance.

A survival expedition using the gadgets together
The tools work best as a sequence rather than as interchangeable upgrades. The following workflow keeps each item in the role its documented function supports.
- Scout first with the Spyglass. From a safe overlook, inspect the route, possible resources and candidate building ground. Avoid committing to a site that is only attractive from one angle.
- Choose the movement method. Use the Glider for sustained distance, Rocket Boots for a short vertical obstacle, or the Hookshot when a visible Hook Anchor creates a direct crossing.
- Manage Stamina before and during movement. The Glider’s release guidance warns about difficult low-Stamina landings. Update 7 also addressed Spyglass zoom interfering with Stamina recovery, so unzoom and reassess before a demanding maneuver.
- Prepare the destination. Once on site, use the Scrap Drill to clear a measured 2×2 path or foundation area. Test the material first and monitor durability.
- Establish repeatable travel. If the location becomes a worksite, retain safe anchor points or a high launch area so future trips do not require a blind crossing.
- Return by the lowest-risk route. A successful outward trip does not guarantee that the same route is safe when Stamina, visibility or terrain has changed.
Using gadgets while building
Site selection
The Spyglass lets you compare distant terrain before you travel. Once you choose a location, the Glider can shorten a long approach, Rocket Boots can help reach a raised shelf, and the Hookshot can connect a work platform to a known anchor. These are access and inspection advantages, not evidence of a special building mode.

The Scrap Drill is the only gadget with a directly documented block-breaking function. Use it to open a regular 2×2 working area, then switch to your ordinary building tools for shaping, placing and detailing. Leave boundary blocks intact until you have verified the drill’s area and current durability in your version.

Construction logistics
For a site separated from your storage or base, a Hook Anchor can serve as a repeatable traversal point if the current placement rules allow it. The Glider is better for moving between broad regions, while Rocket Boots handle small vertical corrections around scaffolds and platforms. None of the official gadget descriptions confirms automated material transport, block placement or structure editing.

Players often ask for a crafting recipe, a default key and a complete acquisition route for each gadget. The currently reviewed official release and patch descriptions do not provide those details for every item. In particular:
- The Scrap Glider’s earlier notes associate Sprint with diving and ascending, but they do not identify its deployment input.
- The Hookshot descriptions do not establish aiming, firing, range or anchor-placement controls.
- The Rocket Boots are described as a double-jump item without a published universal activation sequence.
- The Spyglass is confirmed to zoom, but the reviewed material does not name a default zoom key.
- No complete, current recipe or acquisition list is established for all five gadgets.
Use the item tooltip, tutorial prompt and Settings → Controls menu in your installed build as the authority for your platform. If a control shown in an older video differs from the prompt in game, follow the current prompt; Early Access tuning can change bindings and behavior.
Troubleshooting common problems
The Scrap Drill removes the wrong amount of terrain
Stop and test it on an expendable edge. Its documented area is 2×2, but orientation and the current target-block rules determine what is affected. Rebuild your excavation pattern around the observed result rather than assuming every surface behaves identically.
The Glider lands you short or drops you dangerously
Check Stamina before launch, leave more open landing space and practice the Sprint-linked dive and climb behavior over safe ground. Do not begin a long flight from a nearly empty Stamina bar.

The Hookshot will not connect
Confirm that the destination is an actual Hook Anchor, that it is visible and that your current prompt shows the correct aim and fire actions. The public descriptions do not establish a universal range or angle, so a failed connection is not proof of a specific distance limit.

The second jump does not trigger
Review the active jump binding and the item’s equip state, then test it in an open area. The confirmed capability is a double jump; the exact input sequence can depend on the current control scheme.
Stamina seems not to recover while using the Spyglass
Update 7 fixed a bug in which Spyglass zoom blocked Stamina recovery. If the problem persists after that fix, exit zoom, check that the game is updated and report the behavior through the current support channel rather than treating it as an intended limitation.
What to expect from future updates
Goblin gear is intentionally rough-looking and has already received balance and animation changes during development. Hytale’s Early Access launch description also characterizes the build as rough and unfinished. That context matters when planning a long expedition: controls, durability, stamina interactions and item balance may change in later updates even though the five core roles remain recognizable.
For the current October 12, 2026 release state, the reliable mental model is simple: drill for a 2×2 clearing, glide for momentum-based travel, double-jump with the boots, zip between anchors with the Hookshot and inspect distance through the Spyglass. Confirm every control and acquisition detail in your own build before you commit valuable materials or a dangerous route.
The practical takeaway
Use the Spyglass to decide where to go, choose the movement gadget that matches the terrain, and bring the Scrap Drill when the destination needs broad clearing. The Scrap Glider is the long-range option but demands Stamina management; Rocket Boots solve short height problems; the Hookshot is strongest between known anchor points. Together they make exploration and access to a building site easier, while ordinary tools still handle the actual construction.
