Grok Bot cannot directly act as your phone carrier’s spam firewall or replace the iPhone or Android Phone and Messages apps. Its documented role is to explain the right settings, tailor instructions to your device, and—where a supported computer-use flow is available—help you navigate a screen under your supervision. The operating system, dialer, carrier, or an approved filtering extension performs the actual blocking.
What Grok can—and cannot—do
Grok’s mobile documentation describes messaging, dictation, voice chat, attachments, and share-sheet input on iPhone and Android. Its broader product documentation also describes chat, voice, file analysis, connectors, and work on a persistent cloud computer. Those capability descriptions do not document a native switch that changes carrier call routing, the iPhone Phone app, Android’s dialer, or SMS filtering.
Use Grok as a guided assistant. Ask it for instructions that match your exact phone model, operating-system release, and dialer. If Grok proposes opening a setting, running a command, or changing a device control, apply xAI’s safety rule: Do not approve an action whose target or effect you cannot identify.
Read the target and the expected effect before approving anything.
Block spam calls and texts on iPhone with Grok’s guidance
1. Ask for device-specific instructions
In Grok, ask: Show me how to silence unknown callers and filter unknown senders on my iPhone. I’m running [your iOS version]. Explain which legitimate calls or messages I could miss. Replace the bracketed text with your actual version; do not approve a proposed action until you can see which setting it will change.

2. Choose how iPhone handles unknown callers
- Open Settings > Apps > Phone.
- Review the available unknown-caller control. Depending on the iOS release, you can leave screening off, ask unknown callers to state a reason, or silence unknown callers so they go to voicemail.
- Choose the option that fits your work and family contacts. Silencing is less disruptive, but a genuine caller whose number is not saved may never ring your phone; check voicemail and recent calls.
3. Filter messages from unknown senders
- Open Settings > Apps > Messages.
- Turn on the available filtering control for unknown senders. Apple’s documented filtering covers SMS, MMS, and RCS traffic and can support compatible third-party filtering extensions.
- Review the filtered area periodically. Filtering separates messages from known conversations; it does not establish that every separated message is fraudulent.
4. Block one nuisance number
Open the unwanted call or conversation, view its contact details, and use the Phone or Messages Block and, where offered, Report option. This is a targeted block, not a rule for every unknown caller.
5. Supervise any screen-control flow
If Grok is operating through a supported computer or screen-control workflow, verify the visible page, setting name, and scope before approving. Stop if the proposed target is unclear or would affect more contacts than intended.

Block spam calls on Android with Grok’s guidance
1. Identify the dialer and Android release
Android menus vary by manufacturer, Android version, and installed dialer. Ask Grok for steps for your exact model and for the dialer you actually use. Instructions for Google’s Phone app may not match a manufacturer’s Phone app.
2. Block and report a specific number in Google’s Phone app
- Open the Phone app and find the number in Recents, or open its contact entry.
- Tap Block / report spam and confirm. Reporting gives the app a spam classification signal; blocking prevents that number from calling normally.
3. Enable caller identification and spam protection
- Open Phone > More options > Settings (the exact label can differ).
- Turn on Caller ID and spam or the equivalent caller-identification and spam-protection control.
- Where your version provides it, enable Filter spam calls. Google notes that availability and steps depend on Android version and app configuration.
4. Check what was filtered
Review blocked-call history, recent calls, and voicemail from time to time. An aggressive filter can divert a legitimate caller, so do not treat a silent phone as proof that no important call arrived.

These controls differ in scope: a single-number block is precise, unknown-caller screening affects every unsaved caller, and message filtering classifies incoming text traffic. Carrier spam-call protection or a compatible call-identification app can add another layer, but availability and behavior depend on region, carrier, device, and app support.
Common mistakes and safer recovery
- Assuming Grok performed the block: Confirm the setting inside Phone or Messages. Grok’s explanation or navigation is not evidence that the operating system changed anything.
- Silencing without checking voicemail: Review voicemail and recent calls after enabling unknown-caller silencing.
- Approving an unclear action: Cancel any Grok proposal whose target, scope, or effect is not obvious, then request a plain-language explanation.
- Following the wrong Android menu: Tell Grok the manufacturer, Android release, and dialer name and request a revised path.
- Expecting filtering to prove fraud: Treat classifications as screening assistance; inspect an important message through a trusted channel before acting on it.
