Yes, you can ask Gemini to summarize a webpage on an Android phone, but the exact route depends on which Google feature is enabled for your account and device. Google’s Android Chrome instructions describe an Ask Gemini control inside Chrome. A separate Google help page currently says, “For now, Gemini in Chrome is not available on Android phones or tablets.” Because Google is rolling the feature out gradually and its Android documentation conflicts, check for the Chrome control first. If it is missing, use Gemini as your Android assistant and choose Ask about screen or Ask about page while the webpage is open.

Choose the Gemini route available on your phone
There are two documented ways to summarize an open webpage on Android:

The Chrome procedure comes from Google’s Android Chrome Help page. Google’s separate Gemini Apps Help page says the Chrome feature is not currently available on Android phones or tablets. Treat the Chrome button as an account-by-account rollout, not as a feature every Android user should have.

Check the listed Chrome requirements
Google Chrome Help lists the following conditions for Gemini in Chrome on Android. Meeting them does not guarantee access because Google says the release is gradual.

Google also warns that Gemini in Chrome is being gradually released, so an eligible phone may still lack the control. The requirements are therefore useful checks, not a promise of activation.
Method 1: Summarize the page with Ask Gemini in Chrome
Use this sequence when Chrome displays Ask Gemini.
- Open the target webpage in Chrome. Navigate to the article or page you want summarized. Do not use a Google Search results page; Google says Gemini in Chrome is not accessible there.
- Open the Gemini entry point. Tap Ask Gemini if it is shown on the page or in Chrome’s interface. If you do not see a dedicated button, tap More (the three-dot menu), then tap Ask Gemini.
- Complete first-use setup if prompted. Follow the on-screen opt-in instructions. The exact prompt can vary by account and rollout status.
- Check the page-sharing notice. Chrome’s guide says the current page is shared with Gemini by default for this conversation. If you do not want the page shared, use Stop sharing in the text box before submitting a request.
- Enter a focused request. Type
Summarize this pageorSummarize the key takeaways from this article.You can specify the format, audience, or length as shown in the examples below. - Tap Submit. Gemini processes the page context and returns the response in the chat interface.
Prompts that produce useful summaries
A short command is enough, but adding a clear output format helps when the page is long or technical. Try one of these:
Summarize this page in five bullet points.Give me the main claim, the supporting evidence, and the conclusion from this article.Summarize this article in plain English for a beginner.List the steps described on this page in the order I should follow them.What are the most important dates, prices, or requirements mentioned on this page?Summarize only the section about battery life and identify any qualifications.
For a page containing several unrelated sections, identify the section or question you care about instead of requesting a broad summary. If you need a faithful abstract, ask Gemini to distinguish the page’s claims from its examples or opinions.
Understand what “sharing the page” means in Chrome
In the Chrome-native workflow, Google says the active page is shared by default with the Gemini chat. This page context is what allows Gemini to summarize the article you are viewing rather than answer only from your typed prompt.
The Chrome instructions also expose a Stop sharing control in the text box. Use it before sending a request when the page contains information you do not want included in the Gemini conversation. Stopping page sharing changes the context available to Gemini; it does not create a summary of content Gemini can no longer access.
Google’s mobile-assistant instructions describe asking about the screen or page but do not provide the same detailed sharing control in the cited guidance. Do not assume the privacy controls or page-context behavior are identical between the two routes. If the content is sensitive, inspect the controls shown on your device before submitting.

Method 2: Use Gemini as the Android assistant
If Chrome does not show Ask Gemini, the documented alternative is to use Gemini as the primary Android assistant and invoke it while Chrome is open. Google describes this route in its Gemini mobile app help.
- Set Gemini as the primary Android assistant. Complete the Android setup that makes Gemini your device assistant if it is not already selected. The labels can differ slightly by Android version and manufacturer.
- Open the webpage in Chrome. Leave the article or other page visible on screen.
- Activate Gemini over Chrome. Use the assistant gesture or button configured on your phone.
- Choose the page-context action. Tap Ask about screen or Ask about page, whichever appears.
- Request the summary. Say or type
Summarize this webpage. For a more specific result, ask for bullet points, a short abstract, key decisions, or the steps in the article. - Review the response. Confirm that Gemini understood the intended page and that the summary covers the section you need.
This route is not a workaround that turns on the missing Chrome button; it is a separate, Google-documented assistant action. It is the practical option when Chrome-native Gemini has not reached your account or when the Android documentation’s availability notice applies.
Chrome Gemini versus the mobile-assistant route
The two workflows can both produce a webpage summary, but their entry points and documented controls differ.

Why Ask Gemini may be missing
The feature has not reached your account
Google says Gemini in Chrome is gradually releasing. Even if your phone meets the listed Android, RAM, language, region, age, and account conditions, the control may not yet be enabled.
You are viewing Google Search results
Chrome’s documentation says Gemini in Chrome is not accessible on Google Search result pages. Open the destination webpage itself, then check Chrome’s controls again.
Chrome is out of date
Update Chrome to the latest version through Google Play. Reopen Chrome after the update and check the page again.
Chrome is not signed in
Google lists signed-in Chrome as a requirement. Open Chrome’s account menu and sign in with the account that should use Gemini.

You are using Incognito
The Chrome Help page lists non-Incognito browsing. Close the Incognito tab and open the webpage in a standard tab.

Verify that the phone runs Android 12 or later, has at least 4 GB of RAM, and uses English device settings. Google names the United States and India on the Android Chrome page, but supported regions and eligibility can change.
A work or school administrator has blocked access
Managed Google Accounts require administrator enablement. An organization’s policy can therefore prevent the control even when a personal account on the same phone might qualify.
Restart Chrome after checking the basics
Google’s troubleshooting advice is to sign in to Chrome, update Chrome, and restart Chrome if Ask Gemini still does not appear. These steps can refresh the interface, but they cannot override a staged rollout or the separate Android availability notice.
What to do when the summary is incomplete
A generated summary can omit headings, sidebars, tables, footnotes, or content loaded only after interaction. Treat the result as a reading aid rather than a substitute for the source when a decision depends on exact wording.
- Ask for the missing section by name, such as
Summarize the “Eligibility” section only. - Ask Gemini to list qualifications, exceptions, dates, or conditions separately.
- Scroll the page to the relevant content and invoke the assistant again if the first response used the wrong screen context.
- Compare important figures and instructions with the original page before acting on them.
- For a long article, request several section summaries instead of one compressed answer.
These prompts improve the usefulness of the response without changing which page or account Google makes available to Gemini.
Privacy and account considerations
The Chrome workflow explicitly tells you that the current page is shared by default and provides Stop sharing. That makes the sharing state an important part of the decision to submit a prompt. Check the page for personal, confidential, work, health, financial, or account information before using the Chrome-native chat.

The mobile-assistant path has a different entry point and less detail in Google’s cited instructions about page-sharing controls. Read the labels shown on your phone, and avoid asking Gemini to process sensitive content unless you understand what context is being sent.
For managed work or school accounts, administrator settings determine whether Chrome Gemini access is enabled. A personal account and a managed account can therefore show different controls on the same handset.

Google says the feature is gradually released, so eligibility does not guarantee activation. Sign in to Chrome, update it, restart it, and try a regular webpage rather than Search results. If the control remains absent, use the Gemini mobile-assistant route when available.

Which method should you use?
Start with Chrome’s Ask Gemini control because it is the most direct page-summary workflow and includes an explicit page-sharing switch.
