To use a Darkness Falls pre-generated world reliably, install the same Darkness Falls build on every client and the server, match the mod to its supported 7 Days to Die branch, disable Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) on both sides, select an exact DFalls-… world name, and create a new save. Test the opening quests, trader access, and required points of interest (POIs) before your group commits to the map.
The supplied worlds are selected as game worlds, not entered as ordinary vanilla seeds. Available names include Very Small, Small, Medium, Large, and a Navezgane variant, with -PEP and -NoPEP variants for most size families.

What a Darkness Falls pre-generated world is
Darkness Falls is an overhaul mod, so its world files, quests, traders, and prefabs must be available to the modded game instance. A pre-generated world supplied with the mod is a packaged map intended to be selected by name. It is different from typing a seed into the vanilla random-world workflow.
That distinction matters because Darkness Falls quests can depend on specific points of interest. A random map may load normally yet omit a quest-critical building or trader location. A supplied pregen gives you a known world package to test, reducing that particular risk. It does not remove the need to match versions, install the mod on every participant, or start a fresh save.

World choices are not performance benchmarks. The available names establish size families and variants, but the published setup material does not provide reliable current load-time, memory, or player-capacity figures for each map. Treat the size guidance below as a planning rule, then validate the actual server on your hardware.
Requirements to settle before installation
- Compatible versions: identify the Darkness Falls package version and the 7 Days to Die branch it supports. Do not assume the current Steam branch works with an older package. The 7D2D Wiki’s Darkness Falls guide recommends matching the supported branch, backing up saves, installing the mod, launching with EAC off, and starting a fresh world: 7D2D Wiki Darkness Falls guide.
- Complete installation: the same mod build must be installed on the host or dedicated server and on every client that joins.
- EAC state: disable EAC consistently on the server and each local client. Host Havoc’s technical procedure states, “The mod will not work if EAC is enabled on either side”: Host Havoc installation instructions.
- Save protection: back up existing saves before changing branches, installing the overhaul, or experimenting with worlds.
- Hosting choice: decide whether the world will run locally, through a rented host, or on your own dedicated server. The selection method is similar, but a server requires an explicit
GameWorldvalue in its configuration.
Back up Windows saves
On Windows, copy %APPDATA%7DaysToDieSaves to a separate dated folder or drive. Also copy the save directory used by a dedicated server. Keep the backup outside the live game and server folders so an uninstall or reset cannot remove both copies.
The seven-day setup workflow
This schedule separates compatibility work from world selection. You can complete it faster, but do not skip the verification steps.
Day 1 — Freeze versions and protect saves
- Record the installed 7 Days to Die branch or build.
- Record the exact Darkness Falls package version and read its branch requirement.
- Back up the Windows saves folder and any server save directory.
- Choose local, hosted, or dedicated-server play.
Keep these values together in a text note. If the game updates while you are installing, stop and recheck the mod’s compatibility rather than trying to diagnose a map failure that is actually a branch mismatch.
Day 2 — Install Darkness Falls everywhere
Install the same non-Workshop Darkness Falls build on the host or server and on every client. For a hosted server, stop the server before copying or installing files, then apply the host’s configuration changes while the process is stopped. A client with different mod files can fail to join even when the world name is correct.

After installation, confirm that the instance you intend to launch contains the mod’s world files. Multiple Steam libraries or server instances can make it easy to install into one directory and launch another.
Day 3 — Disable EAC on both sides
- Open the dedicated-server or hosting configuration and disable EAC.
- Save the configuration and restart the server.
- On each local client, launch the game with EAC disabled using the launcher option supplied by that installation.
- Have every player use the same EAC state before attempting to connect.
Changing only the server setting is insufficient. The host documentation explicitly requires EAC to be disabled on both sides; an EAC-enabled client or server can prevent the modded setup from working.
Day 4 — Select the supplied world
For local play, open New Game and choose the installed Darkness Falls world from the Game World choices. For a server, set GameWorld to the exact supplied name, including capitalization, hyphens, size number, and the PEP or NoPEP suffix.
Examples are DFalls-Medium1-NoPEP, DFalls-Small2-PEP, and DFalls-Navezgane. Do not type one of these names into an unrelated seed field. The world must exist in the installed package’s Worlds folder or in the game-world list presented by the modded client.
Day 5 — Create a new save and wait for initialization
- Give the save a new name, or use the host’s documented wipe/reset control.
- Confirm the selected
GameWorldbefore starting. - Start the world and allow first initialization to finish without terminating the process prematurely.
- Join only after the server reports that it is ready.
World selection, generation seed, size, and save name are inputs to a new world. They do not reshape an existing save. The world-generation guide explains this behavior here: 7 Days to Die world-generation guide. If a server keeps loading the previous map, change the save name or perform a controlled wipe rather than repeatedly changing the world setting.

Day 6 — Test quest and trader POIs
Join with a test character before inviting the full group. Follow the opening Darkness Falls quest chain far enough to verify that its required locations can be found. Check trader access and any other quest-critical POIs your group will need early in the playthrough.
If a required location is absent, do not spend hours regenerating random seeds. Stop the test save and switch to a supplied pre-generated world. For an externally generated map, first confirm that the correct Darkness Falls prefabs were available to the generator.
Day 7 — Document the working configuration
Record the mod version, 7 Days to Die branch, exact world name, PEP or NoPEP choice, server configuration filename, EAC state, and save name. Include the installation directory if multiple game instances exist. This record makes a reinstall reproducible and gives every player a precise checklist when troubleshooting.
Which supplied DFalls world should you choose?
Choose the smallest map that gives your group enough exploration room and that your server can initialize comfortably. The source material supports the following size families and names:

How to interpret PEP and NoPEP
The supplied list contains both -PEP and -NoPEP forms for the numbered size families. The setup references establish these as selectable package variants but do not define a universal gameplay difference between the suffixes. Use the description or documentation shipped with your current Darkness Falls package to decide which one your group wants; copy its name exactly into GameWorld.

A practical decision sequence
- Pick
DFalls-Navezganeif the group specifically wants the Navezgane variant. - Otherwise choose Very Small or Small for a small party and quicker first generation.
- Choose Medium or Large only when additional exploration space justifies the larger world on your server.
- Select the package’s PEP or NoPEP variant according to the current mod documentation.
- Test quests and traders before treating the choice as final.
No published source in this setup guide supplies a trustworthy RAM, load-time, or concurrent-player table for these maps. Do not turn the size labels into invented hardware requirements.
Local game versus dedicated server
Local game
Install the mod in the game instance you actually launch, disable EAC in the launcher, and open New Game. Select the DFalls world from Game World, choose a new save name, and start generation. If the world is not listed, verify the mod files and the package’s Worlds folder before changing other settings.
Hosted or dedicated server
- Stop the server.
- Install the same Darkness Falls build used by clients.
- Open the server configuration file or host control panel.
- Set
GameWorldto the exact supplied world name. - Disable EAC in the server settings.
- Save, start the server, and wait for initialization.
- Use a fresh save name if the server continues to load an older world.
Every joining client still needs the matching mod and EAC-disabled launch. A server-side installation alone is not enough.
Why a new save is mandatory when changing worlds
A world name is tied to the save created from it. Editing the world setting after a save already exists does not rebuild that save around the new map. This is why a server can appear to ignore a corrected GameWorld value: it may simply be opening the old save.
Use a new save name for a clean test. If your host provides a wipe or reset action, confirm which save directory it removes before using it, and retain the backup made on Day 1.

Pre-generated worlds versus random or custom generation
Why supplied pregens are the safer default
Supplied maps are the preferred starting point when quest-critical POIs, traders, or the opening chain matter. You can test a known package world and replace it if the verification fails, without debugging a custom generation pipeline.
What custom seeds can and cannot guarantee
A custom seed is reproducible only when the game version or build and every generation value match. The official 7 Days to Die wiki notes that changing any generation value produces a different result; after generation, back out of the Generate World screen, select the newly generated Game World, and then start play: official custom-seed world-generation instructions.

Because a seed can produce a different layout after a version or setting change, it is a weaker choice for a quest-dependent Darkness Falls campaign unless you have verified all required locations.
Using NitroGen or another external generator
If you generate outside the game, copy the Darkness Falls prefab files into the generator’s expected Data/Prefabs location before generation. The documented prefab families are DFalls_*, resource_*, xcostum_*, and xvanilla_*. The resulting map name must exactly match the server’s GameWorld value. The repository documentation is available at 7 Days to Die NitroGen prefab lists.
External generation adds another failure point: a missing prefab set can create a map that loads but lacks the locations the mod expects. Use it only when you understand the generator’s folder structure and are prepared to test the complete quest path.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The world is not listed
- Confirm Darkness Falls is installed in the exact game instance being launched.
- Check that the selected package contains the world in its
Worldsfolder. - Verify the game branch matches the mod package.
- For a server, compare the configured
GameWorldstring with the folder or supplied name character for character.
The server starts the wrong map
- Set the exact DFalls world name, including size number and suffix.
- Create a new save or change the save name; an existing save is not reshaped by a setting change.
- Stop and restart the server after saving configuration changes.
A client cannot join
- Compare the client and server Darkness Falls files and versions.
- Compare the 7 Days to Die branch on every machine.
- Disable EAC on both the client and server, then restart each side.
A quest or trader POI is missing
- Stop using the random map for that campaign.
- Start a fresh save on a supplied pre-generated world and repeat the test.
- If the map was externally generated, verify that the Darkness Falls prefab families were copied to the generator’s required location before generation.

- Mod version recorded and identical on all machines.
- Supported 7 Days to Die branch confirmed.
- Saves backed up.
- Server stopped during installation and configuration edits.
- EAC disabled on every client and on the server.
- Exact supplied world selected through Game World or set as
GameWorld. - New save created after the world choice.
- Initialization completed successfully.
- Opening quest, trader access, and required POIs tested.
- World name, suffix choice, save name, configuration filename, and EAC state documented for the group.
