Use Bing Places for Business to claim an existing business record or create a new one, complete the listing with accurate location and contact information, add available details such as hours, services and photos, and verify ownership. Bing Places is Microsoft’s designated route for managing the business information that appears in Bing Search and Bing Maps.
The process is not an instant override of every business reference Bing displays. Bing can combine information from Bing Places and other sources, features differ by country or region, and a submitted change may take days to publish. The workflow below shows how to avoid duplicate listings, verify the right record, manage multiple locations and troubleshoot information that does not match your submission.
What Bing Places for Business manages
Bing Places is the owner-facing service for claiming or updating a business listing used in Bing Maps and related Bing search results. Microsoft describes it as a free way to add a business so online customers can discover it. Its practical purpose is to give the business a place to submit current location, contact and operating information rather than relying only on data collected elsewhere.

It does not guarantee a particular ranking, appearance, review result or publication time. Bing may merge your submission with other data, and the information shown to a searcher can differ if another source is newer or conflicts with the record you manage.

Availability is market-dependent. The fields, verification choices and management features shown in your account can vary by country, region, business type and the current Bing Places interface.
Prepare before you claim or add a listing
Have the following ready before opening Bing Places:
- The exact public-facing business name and address for the location you intend to manage.
- A phone number or email address that can receive a verification PIN if Bing offers that method.
- Current operating hours, including any changes that affect customers.
- A concise description of the services you actually provide.
- Recent, representative business photos in the formats and sizes accepted by the current interface.
- A list of every location if you operate more than one site, with each location’s details checked separately.
Decide whether you are managing one location or many before entering data. A single-location workflow is suitable for one record; the bulk-upload route is intended for businesses that need to add multiple locations in one operation. Avoid creating a second record merely because the first one has not appeared in search yet.

Bing Places presents two paths: claim an existing listing or add a new one. Always search for the business before choosing the new-listing option. An existing record may already contain map placement, customer-facing details or historical data that should be preserved and claimed rather than duplicated.
- Open Bing Places for Business and start the business search or lookup offered on the home screen.
- Search using the business name and location. Check address details carefully, especially when a company has similar names, multiple branches or a former address.
- Open the record that matches the real location and inspect its displayed details.
- Choose the option to claim or manage that record, then follow the ownership-verification prompts.
- If no matching record exists after a careful search, choose the option to add a new business and enter the location once.
Interface labels can change, so the wording may not be identical to these instructions. The important decision is whether a matching record already exists, not the precise button text.
Why duplicate records cause trouble
Two records for the same location can split information between them and make it unclear which one Bing should display. Duplicates can also create competing verification requests or leave one record with old hours and contact information. Claim the closest existing match and investigate duplicates through Bing Places support instead of adding another record to work around a pending update.

Complete the business profile
After you have selected the correct record, fill every field that is available and accurate for your market. Bing Places specifically describes adding photos, operating hours, services and ways customers can contact the business. Treat these fields as customer-facing information: a detail that is technically present but wrong can be more harmful than a detail you leave blank until it is confirmed.

Location and contact details
Check the street address, local area and contact methods character by character. Make sure the location belongs to the business you are claiming and that the contact channel can be used by customers. If a field is not offered in your region, do not substitute invented information; use the fields that your account actually provides.
Operating hours
Enter normal hours and review them whenever the schedule changes. If the interface provides special-hour controls, use them for temporary closures or holiday changes rather than leaving the regular schedule misleading. Verify the displayed time zone and local date when a location operates near a regional boundary.
Services offered
List services that customers can obtain at that location. Keep wording specific enough to distinguish the business from unrelated listings, but do not add services that are merely planned or available only at another branch.
Photos
Add current photos that represent the real business and location. Replace images when the storefront, branding or facilities change. Follow the upload requirements shown in your account; supported image types and limits can vary with the current interface.
Customer contact methods
Review every contact method after saving. A typo in a phone number or email address can send customers to the wrong destination even if the map pin and business name are correct.

Verify ownership of the listing
Verification protects a listing from unauthorized changes. Bing Places describes PIN delivery through a business address, phone or email, but the methods offered to you depend on the account, location and current eligibility rules.
- From the claimed or newly added listing, choose the verification action shown by Bing Places.
- Review the available delivery methods and select one that the business can access.
- Request the PIN and monitor the selected mailbox, phone line or physical business address.
- Enter the PIN exactly as supplied before it expires or the verification screen closes.
- Return to the listing and confirm that the account now shows the record as verified or managed.
Do not publish a PIN in a public channel or forward it to someone who does not need administrative access. If no method is available, the PIN fails, or the address and phone choices do not belong to the business, use the support path presented in Bing Places rather than repeatedly requesting codes.
When verification is blocked
A listing can appear published while verification remains blocked. That situation does not necessarily mean that a second listing should be created. Check whether another account already controls the record, whether the contact information is obsolete, and whether Bing is showing a duplicate. Keep the existing record and contact Bing Places support when the available verification method cannot be used.
Manage several locations with bulk upload
Bing Places says businesses with multiple locations can add them in one go using its bulk-upload tool. Use this option when entering locations individually would create unnecessary duplication or inconsistent data.
- Prepare a location list with one row per physical site and verify each row against the business’s current records.
- Open the multi-location or bulk-upload option in Bing Places.
- Download or follow the current template and use the column names and formats displayed there. Do not assume that an older template still matches the live importer.
- Enter each location’s name, address, contact details, hours and other available fields exactly as requested.
- Check the file for duplicate addresses, blank required fields and inconsistent spelling before uploading.
- Upload the file and record any validation errors returned by Bing Places.
- Correct rejected rows, upload again only after checking the changes, and complete verification for the locations that require it.
Bulk upload saves data entry; it does not remove the need to review each listing. A single incorrect address can place a branch in the wrong area, and a copied holiday schedule can make every location display the same inaccurate hours.
Agency and operator controls
If you manage listings for a client or a group of businesses, keep an internal list of the locations submitted, the account responsible for each record and the date of the last change. Give verification access only to people who are authorized to represent the business. Bing Places’ bulk capability is useful for a larger set of locations, but the available permissions and account structure can differ by market.

Understand publishing times before editing again
Saving a change in Bing Places does not guarantee immediate publication. Microsoft-hosted support guidance from external staff moderator Vahid in June 2026 describes typical publication cycles of 7–10 days in North America and up to two weeks elsewhere, while stressing that cycles vary. These are estimates, not a service-level deadline.

Repeatedly changing the same field makes it harder to tell which submission Bing is processing. Save a record of what you submitted and when, then check the live listing after the appropriate waiting period.
Why the live listing can differ from your submission
Bing uses multiple data sources. Microsoft-hosted guidance says fresher external information or conflicting data can affect what appears, even after a business submits a change through Bing Places. A live result that differs from your account is therefore not proof that the submission was ignored.
Inspect the data source
Where the listing exposes a Data from area, review it to see which source is associated with the disputed detail. The wording and visibility of that area can vary. Use the information to identify whether the conflict concerns the address, phone number, hours or another field.
Check for duplicates
Search the business name, address and phone number in Bing Maps. Look for an old branch, an alternate spelling or a second record at the same location. Do not claim an unrelated record simply because it appears higher in a search.
Wait through the publication cycle
If the submitted value is correct and no duplicate is present, allow the cited publication window to pass before making another edit. Editing too soon can move the expected publication date and obscure the status of the original update.

Escalate a persistent conflict
After the normal cycle, gather the listing identifier or URL shown in your account, the disputed field, the value you submitted and the date of submission. Give those details to Bing Places support so the issue can be investigated without another duplicate being created.

Microsoft moderator guidance recommends treating a move as a new-location case: create a listing for the business at the new address and mark the prior location closed. Do not simply change the old listing’s address in place when the business has genuinely relocated.
- Confirm that the new address is the business’s operating location.
- Create or claim the listing for the new location.
- Complete its contact information, hours, services and photos, then verify it using an available method.
- Mark the former location closed through the management option provided for that record.
- Check Bing Maps for both locations after publication and report any duplicate or incorrectly open record.
Unusual cases—such as a temporary move, a shared address or a change involving several branches—may need direct support guidance. The new-listing recommendation is support advice, not a universal rule for every relocation scenario.

Claiming and verifying a listing is the beginning of management. Use a repeatable review schedule so stale information does not remain live.
- Monthly: check the name, address, phone or email contact methods, normal hours, services and photos.
- Before a holiday or event: review any special hours or temporary closure information available in your interface.
- After a move or branch change: create the new-location record and close the former one instead of reusing the old address.
- After a staff or agency change: confirm that the account still has an authorized person who can receive verification messages.
- After an update: note the submission date and wait through the normal publication cycle before judging the result.
- When search results disagree: inspect the data source, check for duplicates and avoid stacking additional edits on a pending change.
Troubleshooting by symptom

What Bing Places can—and cannot—guarantee
Bing Places gives an owner a recognized route to supply accurate business information to Bing Maps and search. It can support claiming, profile updates, verification and bulk addition of locations. It cannot guarantee a particular search position, immediate publication, complete control over every third-party data source or identical display in every country.
Use the service to improve the accuracy of the information you control, not as a promise of customer volume. Microsoft’s systemic-risk assessment describes registration and current location, contact and hours data as ways businesses can improve the accuracy of Bing Maps results; that is a description of the tool’s role, not a ranking or conversion guarantee.
When a broader local-listing platform may be useful
Bing Places’ own bulk-upload tool may be sufficient when your main need is managing Bing listings. Organizations responsible for many locations sometimes evaluate a broader local-listing or local-SEO platform for cross-site workflows. If you consider one, compare the capabilities that matter to your operation:

- How update status and turnaround are communicated.
- Its current price and contract terms.
Do not assume that a third-party dashboard replaces Bing Places verification or that it can override Bing’s own source-merging decisions. Confirm its current features and market coverage before committing, since those details are not established by the Bing Places guidance itself.
