How do I use BackerKit to back a crowdfunded tabletop RPG? You pledge through the campaign, then use the creator’s BackerKit survey to confirm your reward, choose any available options or add-ons, provide a current shipping address, and pay only any shipping, tax, optional purchases, or unresolved pledge balance shown. The survey is a fulfillment form—not a second charge for the core reward—and completing it does not mean the game is ready to ship.
What BackerKit does in a tabletop RPG campaign
A crowdfunding pledge supports a creator while a project is being developed. It is not the same as buying a finished tabletop RPG from a shelf. BackerKit explains that “When you back a crowdfunding project on BackerKit or Kickstarter, you’re not purchasing a finished product off a shelf.” The reward may still be in writing, editing, illustration, printing, manufacturing, or distribution when you pledge. Read the campaign page and updates for the project’s own schedule and contents. BackerKit’s survey explanation describes how creators later collect the information needed for fulfillment.
After the campaign reaches the stage chosen by its creator, BackerKit can send a survey. The survey may request:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Confirmation of your pledge level and the rewards attached to it.
- A choice among versions, sizes, colors, designs, languages, or other options the creator has configured.
- Optional add-ons, if the campaign offers them.
- Your shipping country and complete delivery address.
- Shipping, tax, an optional purchase, or a remaining pledge amount when applicable.
The creator—not BackerKit—controls production, fulfillment arrangements, shipping methods, rates, and the project’s schedule. A survey is therefore a data-collection and payment step, not a dispatch notification.

Before you pledge: check the campaign and reward tier
Start on the actual campaign page. No generic guide can tell you whether an unnamed RPG includes a printed rulebook, digital files, a special edition, accessories, or a particular delivery region. Treat the campaign’s tier description, risks, shipping notes, and creator updates as the authority for those details.
Compare what each tier includes
If several pledge levels are available, record the exact contents of each before choosing. A useful comparison includes:
| Decision point | What to verify on the campaign page |
|---|---|
| Reward contents | Named physical books, digital files, special editions, accessories, or other items explicitly listed by the creator. |
| Total expected cost | Original pledge plus any stated shipping, tax, optional add-ons, or possible later balance. |
| Delivery terms | Creator’s estimated timing, destinations served, and updates about production or fulfillment. |
| Choices required later | Any version, color, size, format, language, or address information the survey will request. |
Do not buy a separate tabletop RPG core rulebook until you confirm whether your selected tier already includes that book. If it does not, search for the game’s exact title and edition through a retailer you trust; an unspecified campaign cannot establish which edition or format is appropriate.
Read the campaign’s timing and risk language
Look for the creator’s estimated production and fulfillment milestones, but treat them as estimates rather than guarantees. A campaign can be funded while writing, editing, art, printing, or logistics remain unfinished. Updates may change the expected sequence or explain a delay. Save the campaign URL and the email address used for the pledge, because those are the channels most likely to carry survey and fulfillment notices.
Also check whether the creator says shipping will be collected during the campaign, in BackerKit, or at a later stage. The pledge amount shown on the campaign page may therefore not be the final amount needed to receive the reward. A low initial pledge is not necessarily the lowest delivered cost if shipping, tax, or desired add-ons are excluded.
How to complete the BackerKit survey
The creator normally emails a survey link when responses open. BackerKit says you do not need an account to respond. Use the link in the creator’s message, and keep that message until you have confirmed your submission.
- Open the survey from the creator’s email. Check that the project name and your pledge information match the campaign you backed. If the link appears unexpected, use the creator’s official update or campaign page to verify it before entering information.
- Select your shipping country. The country can affect available delivery methods, taxes, and the rates displayed later. Choose the destination where you actually expect to receive the reward.
- Answer project questions. The creator may ask for choices specific to the RPG, such as a format, edition, design, size, color, or other variant. Only options shown in your survey are available to your pledge.
- Review the pledge level and included items. Confirm that the listed rewards correspond to the tier you selected. If an item is missing or different, pause and contact the creator through the campaign’s stated support channel rather than guessing.
- Choose optional add-ons carefully. Select an add-on only when you want it and the survey lists it as available. Add-ons can increase your total and may have their own shipping treatment.
- Enter the shipping address. Type the complete address in the format used by your destination country, including apartment, unit, postal code, and any delivery instructions the form requests. A previous address may be outdated, so check every field.
- Inspect the complete order and charges. Look for the original pledge, any displayed balance, shipping, tax, and add-ons. Verify quantities, variants, destination, and the final amount before continuing.
- Submit payment information when required. Payment details are used for additional purchases or other charges shown by the project. The original pledge is handled separately unless the campaign reports that payment failed.
- Confirm the survey. Save the confirmation email or screen. Follow the project’s stated deadline: BackerKit allows changes only until the creator locks responses, and the creator may not be able to accommodate late edits.
BackerKit’s current backer instructions cover this sequence, including country selection, project questions, reward review, optional add-ons, address entry, order review, and confirmation: How do I fill out my survey? (last updated February 6, 2026).

What to have ready before opening the form
Have your pledge receipt, the campaign tier name, and your intended delivery address available. If you are choosing between editions or designs, decide before the deadline rather than leaving the form open indefinitely. If another household member will receive the package, use the recipient’s complete name and address consistently. The survey’s available choices are the creator’s configured choices; asking for an unlisted substitution in a free-text field does not guarantee that fulfillment can provide it.
Because an account is not required, losing access to a BackerKit login is not a reason to create a duplicate pledge. Keep the original survey email and use the creator’s support route if the link no longer works or your pledge cannot be found.

Do you have to pay again when you fill out the survey?
Not for the core reward if your original pledge payment succeeded. BackerKit states, “No, your original pledge payment has already been collected.” The survey can nevertheless display new charges that were not part of the original pledge.
Charges that can appear in the survey
- Shipping: The campaign may collect delivery fees later instead of including them at pledge time.
- Tax: A tax amount may be calculated for your destination or excluded from the original campaign total.
- Optional add-ons: Extra books, accessories, apparel, variant editions, or digital items cost more when you select them.
- Failed original payment: If the initial pledge did not clear, the project may ask you to reinstate the pledge before fulfillment.
Check the original campaign payment status if a balance is unexpected. Then compare every line in the survey with your pledge receipt and the creator’s explanation. Do not assume that a displayed amount is a duplicate charge, and do not assume it is an error without checking the payment status and project terms.

There is no universal BackerKit shipping price for tabletop RPGs. The creator configures the project’s rates and collection method. BackerKit documents several approaches in Options for Charging Shipping Fees in BackerKit Pledge Manager:
| Shipping approach | What it means for a backer |
|---|---|
| Whole-order, weight-based shipping | The rate can reflect the combined weight of the pledge rewards and selected add-ons. |
| Separate pledge and add-on shipping | The reward shipment and additional items can be charged using separate shipping calculations. |
| Charge shipping later | The creator postpones collection and displays shipping in a later survey or payment step. |
When you review the survey, verify the destination, the shipping method or description, whether the amount is due now or later, and any creator note about fulfillment. A high or low rate cannot be judged from the campaign title alone because package contents, destination, and the creator’s configuration differ.
Adding an item can change the package’s weight or move it into a separate shipment, so compare the total after every add-on selection. If the survey displays one charge for the pledge and another for extras, read both lines rather than assuming one is a duplicate. If shipping is deferred, mark the creator’s stated payment deadline on your calendar; the survey may close before you are ready to update an address.
How add-ons and variants work
Add-ons are optional products or upgrades offered alongside the main pledge. They are separate from the reward guaranteed by your tier, so declining them does not normally remove the core reward. Select only items you intentionally want, and confirm whether the survey lists a quantity, variant, or separate delivery charge.

You may be asked to confirm a size, color, or design. The availability of any particular item still depends on the named campaign; do not infer that an RPG includes apparel, accessories, or alternate editions. See BackerKit’s explanation of Kickstarter add-ons.
BackerKit reports that creators using its add-ons receive 15–20% additional funds from add-on sales alone, on average; the page does not state a publication year, and the figure is a platform claim about creator fundraising, not a prediction of your cost. In a December 16, 2024 update, BackerKit also reported a 16% average additional fundraising result when creators offered add-ons on BackerKit after already offering them on Kickstarter. Neither statistic predicts the contents, price, or success of a particular tabletop RPG campaign.
Do not treat an add-on catalog as a replacement for the pledge description. An item imported from Kickstarter may require you to confirm a design or other variant in BackerKit, while a reward included in your tier should already appear among the included items. If the same product appears in both places, ask the creator whether one listing is the included reward and the other is an optional extra before paying.

How the survey fits the campaign timeline
A typical sequence is: you select and pay for a pledge, the campaign closes, the creator prepares production and fulfillment information, the survey opens, responses are locked, and the creator or fulfillment partner prepares shipments. Projects do not all follow this order at the same speed. Some creators collect shipping immediately; others wait until production is further along. A survey deadline is an administrative cutoff for collecting accurate data, not evidence that manufacturing is complete.

BackerKit’s frequently asked questions also describe pledge-manager functions and late pledges. If you find a project after its crowdfunding campaign closes, a late pledge may be available, but the creator decides whether to offer it, what rewards remain, and when it closes. A late pledge does not guarantee that every original tier or add-on is still in stock. Read the current project page and terms before committing.
What happens after you submit the survey?
The creator uses your responses to prepare fulfillment, possibly with a fulfillment partner. Production may still involve writing revisions, art, editing, printing, manufacturing, customs, warehouse intake, or address cleanup. Consequently, receiving a survey does not mean your reward is about to ship.
For the project’s timing, rely on the campaign page, creator updates, and any support messages. Look for a stated production milestone, an estimated shipping window, and instructions for address changes. Crowdfunding schedules can move as production or logistics change; BackerKit cannot supply a universal delivery date for every RPG.
When will your BackerKit reward ship?
There is no single answer without the campaign name and its latest update. The creator is responsible for the production and shipping schedule. Use the most recent creator update to determine whether the project is still in development, in manufacturing, at a fulfillment center, or being dispatched. Treat the survey deadline as an administrative deadline, not as a shipping promise.
Changing an answer or fixing a mistake
BackerKit generally lets you return to the survey and make changes until the creator locks responses. Make corrections as soon as you notice them:
- Reopen the survey using the original link or confirmation message.
- Check the reward, variant, add-on quantity, and address fields again.
- Resubmit and retain the newest confirmation.
- If the form is locked, contact the creator through the campaign’s official support route and explain the exact correction needed.
A locked survey does not guarantee that a change is impossible, but the creator may already have exported fulfillment data or placed production orders. Late changes can require additional payment or may not be feasible.
Common problems and practical fixes
The survey link is missing
Search the email account used for the pledge, including spam and filtered folders. Check the campaign’s latest updates for a resend process. If the campaign confirms that surveys are open and you still have no link, contact the creator with your backer email and pledge details; do not create a new pledge just to obtain a survey.
The survey shows an unexpected balance
Compare the amount with the original payment receipt. Separate the original pledge from shipping, tax, add-ons, and any failed-payment reinstatement. If the line items still do not make sense, ask the creator for clarification before paying.

Your address has changed
Update it before the creator locks responses. If it is already locked, notify the creator immediately and follow the project’s address-change instructions. A carrier cannot reliably correct an incomplete or obsolete address after dispatch.
An expected reward or option is absent
Check the tier description and any post-campaign conversion notice. Some options are limited by region, stock, or the creator’s configuration. Send the creator a screenshot or exact wording of the discrepancy rather than selecting a substitute without approval.
You missed the deadline
Contact the creator as soon as possible. Explain that the survey was not submitted and provide the email associated with the pledge. The creator can tell you whether responses remain open or whether a late-fulfillment process, extra fee, or alternative address procedure applies.
You are unsure whether an item is included
Compare the survey’s included-items list with the tier description and your pledge receipt. Do not pay for a similarly named add-on until the creator confirms whether it duplicates your reward. Keep the exact item name and quantity when contacting support so the creator can identify the discrepancy quickly.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a BackerKit account to complete the survey?
No. BackerKit’s backer instructions say you can respond through the survey link without creating an account. Keep the creator’s email and confirmation because they contain the project-specific access information.
Do I have to pay again when I fill out my BackerKit survey?
Not for the core reward when the original pledge payment succeeded. Shipping, tax, optional add-ons, or a failed-pledge balance can still appear. Review each line item before confirming.
When will my BackerKit reward ship?
A survey is not a shipping notice. The creator controls production and fulfillment timing, so check the latest campaign update for the current milestone and estimated shipping window.
Can I change my address after submitting?
Usually you can reopen the survey and edit it until the creator locks responses. After that point, contact the creator immediately; a correction may be difficult or may involve an extra charge.
Are BackerKit add-ons required?
No. Add-ons are optional purchases when the project offers them. Declining an add-on should leave your tier’s core reward unchanged, but verify the included-items list and the final order.
