Amulet Editor lets you modify Minecraft save files outside the game. You can use it to repair damaged areas, move or copy builds, edit terrain, fill or replace blocks, delete chunks, and convert supported Java and Bedrock worlds. The safe workflow is to close Minecraft, make a separate backup or working copy, open that copy in Amulet, perform the edit, save it, and verify the result in Minecraft.

What Amulet Editor does

Amulet is an external Minecraft world editor rather than an in-game mod. It reads the save data on disk and writes your changes back to those files. That makes it useful for jobs that are tedious or impractical with normal commands: removing a corrupted area, changing thousands of blocks at once, moving a detailed structure, resetting chunks, or translating a world between supported Java and Bedrock formats.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The editor supports released Minecraft Java versions from 1.12 onward and released Bedrock versions from 1.7 onward. Snapshot, beta, and preview formats are not supported because those formats can change before a stable release. Marketplace worlds should also be treated as unsupported unless you have independently confirmed that a particular world opens and saves correctly.

World type Documented support Important qualification
Java Edition Released versions 1.12 and newer Snapshots are not supported
Bedrock Edition Released versions 1.7 and newer Beta and preview formats are not supported
Java-to-Bedrock or Bedrock-to-Java Supported when Amulet can open both worlds Some blocks, entities, and items do not translate completely

Prepare a world safely before opening it

Amulet changes the actual save files when you save. Even though the project says it does not expect the editor to corrupt worlds, its disclaimer still instructs users to create copies before editing. Treat that backup as a requirement, not an optional precaution.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Use a working copy

  1. Quit Minecraft completely. Do not leave the world open in Minecraft while Amulet is reading or writing it.
  2. Locate the world folder and copy it to a separate backup location. Give the copy a clear name such as MyWorld-before-amulet-2026-10-15.
  3. Open the copied folder in Amulet. Keep the untouched original until you have opened the edited world in Minecraft and checked the affected area.
  4. For major edits or conversions, make an additional copy immediately before saving. A dated series of backups lets you return to an earlier state if an operation produces an unexpected result.

Do not rely on Undo as your only backup. Undo and Redo apply to changes in the current editor session; a separate copy protects you if the application closes unexpectedly or if you discover a problem after saving and reopening the world.

Find common save locations on Windows

Edition Typical location
Java Edition %AppData%/.minecraft/saves
Newer Bedrock installations %AppData%/Minecraft Bedrock/Users/<user_id>/games/com.mojang/minecraftWorlds
Older Bedrock installations %LocalAppData%/Packages/Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe/LocalState/games/com.mojang/minecraftWorlds

Bedrock folder names are often identifiers rather than the in-game world name. If you are unsure which folder is correct, inspect the folders’ modification dates and verify the world by making a backup before opening anything.

Install Amulet Editor

Download the installer that matches your operating system and processor architecture from the official Amulet site. On Windows, the site provides links for released Windows builds and beta builds. Download a beta only when you specifically need it and have a recoverable backup; a beta build can behave differently from the stable release.

  1. Run the installer for your operating system and architecture.
  2. Accept the installation location and follow the installer prompts.
  3. Launch Amulet after installation, but keep Minecraft closed while you select and edit a world.

macOS and Linux users are directed to source-based installation in the project’s documentation rather than a standard installer in the Windows style. The repository also documents a Docker approach for Linux. Follow the instructions that match your distribution and keep the same backup and version-support rules regardless of how you install the program.

Open a world and understand the 3D editor

  1. Start Amulet and choose the option to open a world.
  2. Browse to the working copy of the Java or Bedrock save folder.
  3. Choose the dimension and coordinates you want to inspect. The file panel exposes dimension and coordinate controls so you can move directly to a known location instead of searching visually.
  4. Wait for the world to load in the 3D view. A chunk that cannot be loaded is shown in red and cannot be modified; do not treat a red area as an empty region that can safely be filled.

The editor keeps changes in memory until you save. Use Ctrl+S to write the current edits to the world files, Ctrl+Z to undo an operation, and Ctrl+Y to redo one. Close the world from the file panel when you are finished, then open the saved copy in Minecraft to verify it.

Select blocks precisely

Choose the Select tool and drag a box from one corner of the area to the opposite corner. The selection is a cuboid, so check the vertical limits as well as the horizontal ones before applying an operation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Hold Ctrl while left-clicking to add another selection box. Multiple boxes let you edit separated sections without including the space between them.
  • Drag a selection’s corners or edges to resize it.
  • Enter coordinates when you need an exact boundary or want to reproduce a selection from notes.
  • Inspect the selection from several camera angles. A box that is one block too high can remove a roof, and one that is one block too low can leave a foundation behind.

After selecting an area, use the operation controls associated with that selection. The editor applies operations to every selected box, so confirm the list of boxes before committing a large change.

Fill, replace, biome, waterlogging, and chunk operations

Fill an area with one block

Fill applies one block type to the selected box or boxes. It is useful for making a flat platform, clearing a room by filling it with air, or creating a temporary marker volume. Select the complete volume first, then choose Fill and the target block. Save only after confirming that the preview covers the intended region.

Replace one block with another

Replace swaps a selected block for another block. This is safer than Fill when you need to preserve everything except one material: for example, replacing a particular wall block while leaving doors, lighting, and other blocks untouched. Define the selection narrowly enough that unrelated examples of the source block are not changed.

Set biome data

Set Biome changes biome data for the selected area. Biome data affects game behavior and visual effects, not merely the block textures. Select the full region that should share the biome and check it in Minecraft after saving, because biome transitions can be easier to notice in-game than in the editor.

Waterlog blocks

Waterlog applies waterlogging to blocks that support it. Use a selection that contains only the intended candidates; applying the operation across ordinary solid blocks will not make those blocks waterloggable.

Delete chunks and let Minecraft regenerate them

The chunk tools can delete selected chunks or delete unselected chunks. Minecraft regenerates deleted chunks when a player visits them. This is useful for resetting an explored perimeter or removing a damaged region, but it is destructive: every build, mined resource, and terrain change in the deleted chunks is discarded. Keep a backup and mark the chunk boundaries before saving.

Copy and paste a build between worlds

You do not need to export a file merely to copy a structure from one open world to another. Amulet can hold the copied data while both worlds are open in the editor.

  1. Open the source world and navigate to the build.
  2. Use the Select tool to include the entire structure, including any below-ground foundation, decorations, and supporting blocks you want to retain.
  3. Choose Copy, press Ctrl+C, or use Edit > Copy.
  4. Open the destination world without closing Amulet. Select the destination dimension and move the view to the intended insertion point.
  5. Choose Paste, press Ctrl+V, or use Edit > Paste.
  6. Position the preview precisely. Apply rotation, scaling, or mirroring when required, then inspect the footprint and height before accepting it.
  7. Save the destination world with Ctrl+S, close it in Amulet, and open it in Minecraft for an in-game inspection.

Amulet translates copied data between supported versions and platforms. Directional blocks are a specific hazard: stairs and similar blocks retain their prior blockstate after rotation, so a rotated roof or staircase can face the wrong way even though the blocks were pasted successfully. Inspect all directional details in-game and correct them manually if necessary.

When an export file is useful

The editor guide documents these structure formats: .construction, .schematic, .schem, and .mcstructure. Export one when you need a reusable file, an archive, or a transfer outside the current Amulet session. For a simple world-to-world copy, direct Copy and Paste avoids an unnecessary export and import step.

Convert a Java world to Bedrock, or Bedrock to Java

Amulet can convert between any two worlds it can open, including conversions within Java, within Bedrock, and between the two platforms. Conversion modifies the output world, so use a new output world rather than converting directly over the only copy.

  1. Close both worlds in Minecraft and make sure neither is being edited by another program.
  2. Open the input world in Amulet.
  3. Choose Convert in the editor.
  4. Select the output world. Prefer a new, disposable destination so the original remains available.
  5. Run the conversion and wait for it to finish.
  6. Close Amulet before launching Minecraft.
  7. Open the converted output and verify the spawn area, important coordinates, dimensions, terrain, structures, and several containers before committing to the converted copy.

Conversion is not a perfect semantic translation of every game feature. Entities are not copied, container items are not copied, and the disclaimer says items are currently supported only within the same platform. Some block translations remain incomplete. A Java-to-Bedrock conversion can therefore preserve the broad terrain and many structures while still requiring manual rebuilding of unsupported blocks, inventories, and mobs.

Edit a Realm or multiplayer server world

Realms

Amulet does not edit a Realm live through the Realm connection. Download the Realm world first, keep the downloaded copy closed in Minecraft, and open that local copy in Amulet. After checking the saved result in a local test, upload the edited world back to the Realm. Preserve the original Realm download until you are satisfied with the replacement.

Servers

Obtain the server’s world files and stop the server for the entire editing period. Open the stopped server world in Amulet, save and close it, then upload the changed files again if the server runs on another computer. Starting the server while Amulet is writing can cause competing changes or leave the server with an incomplete save. Make a server-side backup before replacing the live files.

Known limitations and what they mean in practice

Limitation Practical consequence Safer response
Snapshots, betas, and previews are not supported The world may fail to open or save correctly because its format is still changing Use a released game version and keep an untouched copy of the newer world
Marketplace worlds are not promised to work Packaging or protected content may prevent reliable editing Do not assume support; test only on a disposable copy
Entities are not currently supported Mobs and other entities may not survive a conversion or edit as expected Record important entity locations and recreate them afterward
Items are supported only within the same platform Inventories and container contents can be lost during cross-platform conversion Empty or document valuable containers and rebuild their contents
Some block translations are incomplete A block may become a different block, be omitted, or need repair after conversion Inspect representative areas and keep the source world
Unloadable chunks appear red The area cannot be edited through the 3D editor Stop, investigate the save, and restore from backup if necessary
Directional blockstates remain after rotation Rotated stairs and similar blocks can face the wrong direction Check roofs, stairs, doors, rails, and other directional details in-game
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

Troubleshoot common problems

The world does not appear in the open dialog

  • Confirm that you selected the actual world folder, not the parent directory containing several worlds.
  • Check that Minecraft is closed and that the folder is a complete copy rather than a partially copied or cloud-synced directory.
  • Verify the edition and version. A snapshot, beta, or preview save is outside the documented support range.

A region is red or cannot be selected

A red region represents a chunk Amulet could not load, not a blank area. Do not fill it or delete surrounding chunks until you have preserved the original. Close the editor, compare the working copy with a known-good backup, and consider restoring the affected region rather than forcing an edit.

The change is visible in Amulet but not in Minecraft

  • Press Ctrl+S before closing the world.
  • Make sure you opened the same copy in Minecraft that you edited in Amulet.
  • Check the dimension and coordinates; an edit in the Nether or End will not appear in the Overworld.
  • If a server or Realm is involved, upload the saved local files or Realm copy after closing Amulet.

A pasted build looks wrong after rotation

Check directional blockstates first. Stairs, doors, rails, and other orientation-sensitive blocks can retain their original orientation when the surrounding structure is rotated. Repair those blocks in Minecraft or with a targeted selection instead of repasting the entire build.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Items or mobs are missing after conversion

This is an expected limitation rather than a sign that the block conversion failed. Entities are not currently supported, and cross-platform item preservation is not supported. Restore the source backup if inventories or entities are essential, or plan to recreate them manually in the destination world.

A cautious editing checklist

  • Minecraft is closed on every computer that can access the world.
  • The original world is backed up and the edit is being performed on a copy.
  • The world uses a released Java version 1.12 or newer, or a released Bedrock version 1.7 or newer.
  • The selection includes the correct dimension, coordinates, height, and disconnected areas.
  • You have checked whether the operation is Fill, Replace, Set Biome, Waterlog, or chunk deletion and understand its scope.
  • For a paste, you have inspected the destination and accounted for rotation, scaling, mirroring, and directional blocks.
  • For conversion, the output is a new world and you have planned for missing entities, container items, and incomplete block translations.
  • You saved with Ctrl+S, closed Amulet, and tested the result before replacing a Realm or live server world.

When Amulet is the right tool

Amulet is a strong choice when you need one editor that can work with both major Minecraft editions, perform coordinate-based bulk edits, copy structures between worlds, or convert a world that the program can open. Its main advantage is file-level access across Java and Bedrock rather than dependence on a particular in-game command system.

It is less suitable when your project depends on snapshots or preview formats, requires preservation of mobs and inventories during a cross-platform conversion, or involves a chunk that the editor cannot load. In those cases, keep the original save untouched and choose a workflow that supports the specific format or game data you need to preserve.
