Alexa+ screen-aware help is reported on Amazon’s new Alexa Tablet range—the Alexa Tablet 8, Tablet 11 and Tablet 12 Pro. When you give explicit permission, Alexa+ can use what is currently displayed to answer an in-context question, such as identifying a plant in a photo. The available reporting does not document the exact permission-screen wording, menu location or gesture that starts screen-aware help, so there is no reliable, model-specific button-by-button tutorial to reproduce yet.
You can still understand what the feature does, what availability has been reported, and how to avoid confusing it with the older Show Mode on Fire tablets.
What Alexa+ screen-aware help does
Screen-aware help is intended to let Alexa+ respond to the content you are looking at instead of answering only from a spoken question. For example, TechRadar’s October 2026 report describes asking about a plant shown in a photo. That example illustrates the concept; it is not a guarantee that Alexa+ can identify every image or complete every visual task.

The same report places Alexa+ in a Dynamic Tab on the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Tablet 11 and Tablet 8. It says the Dynamic Tab can expand into a full-screen For You tab. Those interface descriptions show where Alexa+ appears in the reported tablet experience, but they do not explain how screen sharing is initiated.

What permission means
The report says Alexa+ must receive your explicit permission before it looks at screen content. This is an important boundary: seeing a tablet display is not described as an automatic, always-on capability. However, the published material does not establish whether permission is requested for every question, retained for a session, controlled by a persistent setting, or revoked through a particular menu.
That distinction matters when you compare this feature with ordinary voice assistance. A normal Alexa request can be answered from the words you speak, while a screen-aware request depends on information visible in the current view. The tablet may therefore need both an ordinary Alexa activation and a separate approval to inspect the display. Amazon has not yet documented the exact order or wording of those interactions for these models.
Which tablets and regions are associated with the feature?
TechRadar’s October 2026 coverage associates screen-aware Alexa+ with the following new models:
| Model named in the report | What the report establishes |
|---|---|
| Alexa Tablet 8 | Alexa+ appears in the reported Dynamic Tab experience; screen-aware assistance requires explicit permission. |
| Alexa Tablet 11 | Alexa+ appears in the reported Dynamic Tab experience; screen-aware assistance requires explicit permission. |
| Alexa Tablet 12 Pro | Alexa+ appears in the reported Dynamic Tab and can expand to the reported full-screen For You tab; screen-aware assistance requires explicit permission. |
The sources do not provide an official comparison of screen-aware behavior, supported tasks or permission controls between those three models. Do not use differences in screen size, storage or other hardware specifications to infer that one model has broader screen inspection than another.
TechRadar reported Alexa+ availability in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. It reported monthly prices of $19.99, £19.99 and AU$29.99, respectively, and said access was included for Prime members. These are time-sensitive details from secondary reporting, not a permanent price schedule. Check Amazon’s current terms for your country before subscribing or assuming that a particular tablet purchase includes Alexa+; the report also said it was unclear how deeply the tablet integration would work for non-subscribers.
A tablet’s retail availability and Alexa+ eligibility are separate questions. A model could be sold in a country where the service has not launched, or an account could lack access even when the hardware is the right model. Confirm the service region, account status and current subscription terms rather than treating a product listing as proof that every Alexa+ function is enabled.
How to try the feature without inventing unsupported steps
There is not yet a documented official procedure that specifies the exact control used to begin screen-aware help. The following is a safe way to interpret the reported workflow, not a claim that every tablet uses these exact labels or gestures.
Recommended Free Tools
- Use a named Alexa Tablet model. The current reporting ties the capability to the Alexa Tablet 8, Tablet 11 and Tablet 12 Pro. A conventional Fire tablet should not be assumed to support it.
- Open the material you want to discuss. Leave the photo, page or other content visible on the tablet. The feature is described as responding to what is currently displayed.
- Start Alexa using the activation method your tablet presents. The available report does not identify a screen-aware-specific gesture, button or voice phrase. Do not treat the Dynamic Tab or For You tab description as proof of a particular start command.
- Ask a question that refers to the visible content. A question about an object in the displayed image is the type of interaction used in the published example. The example is illustrative, not a promise of universal image recognition.
- Read the permission request carefully. Alexa+ is reported to need explicit approval before inspecting the display. Grant access only if you are comfortable sharing the current screen for that request or session. The sources do not establish whether approval persists or where it can later be withdrawn.
- Check the answer against the screen yourself. Treat the response as assistance, not as proof that every visual detail was recognized correctly. This is especially important for identification, health, safety or other consequential decisions.
If your tablet never presents a permission request or a screen-related response, that absence does not prove a hidden setting is disabled. It may mean the model, account, region or software does not have the reported capability, or that Amazon’s final interface differs from the secondary description.
Do not assume that moving from the Dynamic Tab to the For You tab starts screen inspection. TechRadar described those as parts of the tablet interface, not as a permission control. Likewise, do not infer that opening a picture automatically shares it; explicit approval is the only permission boundary reported for screen content.
Privacy signals and limits of the published documentation
Amazon’s general Alexa FAQ explains audio behavior on Alexa-enabled devices: after wake-word detection or button activation, audio is streamed to the cloud. On Fire tablets, the FAQ says a blue line at the bottom of the display and a short tone indicate that audio is streaming after activation, and it documents ways to turn hands-free Alexa off.
Those disclosures concern audio and legacy Fire-tablet operation. They do not establish how Alexa+ screen inspection is indicated, how screen data is processed or stored, or what control ends screen access. Do not interpret the blue line or tone as a documented screen-sharing indicator, and do not assume that turning off a hands-free audio setting controls screen-aware Alexa+.

- Before approving access, close or navigate away from content you do not want included in the current view.
- Ask whether the visible page contains personal messages, account details, payment information or other data that should not be analyzed.
- Look for a clear end, cancel or deny control in the permission interface. Because the reviewed sources do not document its wording or location, follow the control shown on your own tablet rather than a generic online instruction.
- For sensitive tasks, deny permission and use a conventional question that does not require screen inspection.
- Do not display passwords, one-time codes, financial statements or private conversations while testing an unfamiliar visual-assistance feature.
Permission should be treated as a deliberate disclosure decision, not merely a step to dismiss quickly. If another person’s information is visible, obtain their consent or move to a less sensitive screen first. For work, school or medical material, follow the organization’s rules before allowing any assistant to analyze the display.
Alexa+ tablets versus Fire tablet Show Mode
Show Mode is not a workaround for screen-aware Alexa+. It is an older Fire-tablet feature that displays full-screen visual responses to voice commands. Alexa+ screen awareness, by contrast, is the reported ability to inspect content that is already on the display after explicit permission.

How to enable legacy hands-free Alexa on a supported Fire tablet
Amazon’s general Alexa FAQ gives these instructions for legacy Fire-tablet Alexa, not for Alexa+ screen-aware help:
- Open Settings > Alexa.
- Turn on Alexa and Hands-Free Mode if those controls are available on the tablet.
After activation, Amazon says a blue line at the bottom of the display and a short tone indicate audio streaming to the cloud. These are audio indicators only.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow to enter Show Mode
Amazon’s instructions provide several legacy paths:
- Use the tablet’s Quick Actions menu and select Show Mode.
- Ask Alexa to switch to Show Mode.
- On Amazon’s UK Show Mode guidance, swipe down from the home screen and toggle Show Mode, or use the Alexa app or a voice command.
Do not follow these steps expecting Alexa to analyze a photo, webpage or document already visible on the tablet. They activate the older full-screen response experience.
Which Fire tablets support Show Mode?
Amazon’s UK compatibility page lists the following legacy support. It also specifies minimum software versions; the required version can vary by model, so check the current Amazon page and the tablet’s installed software rather than relying on an unlabeled version number.
| Category | Models listed by Amazon UK |
|---|---|
| Show Mode compatible | Fire HD 8 (7th, 8th and 10th generations); Fire HD 10 (7th, 9th and 11th generations). |
| Show Mode incompatible | Fire 7 (7th, 9th and 12th generations); Fire HD 8 (12th generation); Fire Max 11 (13th generation); Fire HD 10 (13th generation). |
This compatibility list is for Show Mode. It is not a list of tablets that support Alexa+ screen-aware help, and it must not be used as a proxy for Alexa+ compatibility.
What the Show Mode Charging Dock does—and does not do
Amazon’s June 28, 2018 launch announcement described the Show Mode Charging Dock as an accessory that automatically switched compatible Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 tablets into Show Mode while charging. It belongs to that older experience. The announcement does not make it an accessory that adds screen-aware Alexa+ to a Fire tablet, so buying or using the dock is not a way to obtain the reported feature.
If you are shopping for a tablet specifically because of screen-aware assistance, compare the Alexa Tablet range and current Alexa+ eligibility first. A dock can be useful for charging or for legacy Show Mode, but it should not be included in the budget as a requirement for Alexa+.
Buying and account checklist
- Model: Look for the Alexa Tablet 8, Tablet 11 or Tablet 12 Pro named in TechRadar’s October 2026 report. Do not substitute a similarly sized Fire tablet.
- Service: Confirm Alexa+ availability in your country. The report covered the United States, United Kingdom and Australia.
- Subscription: TechRadar reported monthly prices of $19.99, £19.99 and AU$29.99 and said Prime members received access. Verify current Amazon pricing, taxes, trials and Prime rules.
- Account: Check that the Amazon account used on the tablet is eligible. The report said non-subscriber integration on the new tablets was unclear.
- Privacy: Expect an explicit approval step for screen inspection, but do not expect a documented universal switch until Amazon publishes one.
- Software: Install updates offered for the tablet and Alexa components, while recognizing that an update alone does not prove the feature has rolled out to your account.
Troubleshooting by symptom
There is no permission prompt
Do not search for a Show Mode toggle as a substitute. Confirm that you are using one of the Alexa Tablet models named in the report and that Alexa+ is available for your account and region. Because the reviewed sources do not document the final permission flow, a missing prompt may reflect account, rollout or software availability rather than a setting you can infer from legacy Fire-tablet menus.
Alexa answers generally instead of referring to the screen
Keep the relevant content visible and ask a question that clearly refers to it. If the tablet still responds without using the screen, treat that as an indication that screen-aware access was not granted or is not available in the current context; the report does not provide a diagnostic code or an alternate invocation command.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →You are using a Fire tablet listed for Show Mode
That confirms only that the older full-screen Alexa experience may be supported, subject to Amazon’s software requirements. It does not establish Alexa+ screen awareness. Use Show Mode for visual voice responses, not for asking Alexa to inspect arbitrary content already displayed.
You are concerned that the tablet is sharing the screen
Deny the permission request and leave the screen-aware interaction. Amazon’s documented blue-line and tone signals refer to audio streaming on Fire tablets; the reviewed sources do not document an equivalent screen-access indicator. Do not infer that audio controls or Show Mode controls end Alexa+ screen inspection.
You are outside the reported regions or are not a Prime member
Availability and pricing can change. TechRadar’s October 2026 report covered the United States, United Kingdom and Australia, reported Prime inclusion and listed monthly prices, but said non-subscriber integration on the new tablets was unclear. Verify current Amazon eligibility and terms for your location before treating an unavailable feature as a hardware fault.

The answer seems wrong
Ask a narrower question, keep the relevant object fully visible and verify the result yourself. The published plant example demonstrates contextual assistance, not guaranteed recognition accuracy. Do not rely on an unverified answer for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions.
What is still unknown
A careful answer must leave several implementation details open because they are not established by the available sources:
- The exact words and location of the permission dialog.
- Whether approval applies once, for a session or until manually revoked.
- The gesture, button or voice phrase that starts screen-aware help.
- Whether Alexa+ can inspect every type of screen content or only selected apps and images.
- How screen data is transmitted, retained or deleted.
- Whether the Alexa Tablet 8, Tablet 11 and Tablet 12 Pro differ in supported visual tasks.
- Whether non-Prime users receive identical tablet integration.
- Whether availability expands beyond the United States, United Kingdom and Australia, and whether prices change.
Until Amazon publishes model-specific instructions and privacy details, avoid guides that claim a particular Fire-tablet setting, Show Mode switch or charging dock enables this capability. The strongest supported conclusion is narrower: TechRadar reported permission-based, in-context screen assistance for the new Alexa Tablet range, while Amazon’s public Fire-tablet instructions describe a separate legacy Alexa and Show Mode system.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make Alexa+ see what is on my tablet screen?
On the Alexa Tablet 8, Tablet 11 and Tablet 12 Pro described by TechRadar in October 2026, Alexa+ is reported to inspect visible content after you give explicit permission. Amazon has not documented the exact button, gesture or permission-menu wording, so do not rely on a generic Fire-tablet tutorial.
Does this work on my Fire tablet?
Do not assume it does. Current reporting ties screen-aware help to the new Alexa Tablet range. Fire tablets may support legacy hands-free Alexa or Show Mode, but those features are separate and do not establish Alexa+ screen inspection.
Is Show Mode the same as screen-aware Alexa+?
No. Show Mode displays Alexa’s own visual responses in a full-screen interface. Screen-aware Alexa+ is reported to answer questions about content already visible on the display after explicit approval.
What does the blue line at the bottom of a Fire tablet mean?
Amazon says the blue line and a short tone indicate audio streaming to the cloud after Alexa activation. They are documented audio signals, not proof that Alexa+ is viewing or sharing the screen.
What does Alexa+ cost?
TechRadar reported monthly prices of $19.99 in the United States, £19.99 in the United Kingdom and AU$29.99 in Australia, with access included for Prime members. Prices, eligibility and non-subscriber integration can change, so check Amazon’s current terms.
Can a Show Mode Charging Dock add screen-aware help?
No evidence supports that use. Amazon’s June 28, 2018 announcement describes the dock as automatically switching compatible older Fire HD tablets into Show Mode while charging. It is not documented as an Alexa+ screen-awareness accessory.

Check the tablet model, account, region and software availability. The published material does not identify a hidden switch or diagnostic code, so the absence of a prompt may reflect rollout or eligibility rather than a missed Show Mode setting.
Is Alexa+ guaranteed to identify anything on the screen?
No. The reported plant-in-a-photo example illustrates contextual help but does not guarantee recognition of every image, app or visual task. Verify answers independently, especially for health, safety, financial or other consequential decisions.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: TechRadar reported that Alexa+ on Amazon’s new Alexa Tablet 8, Tablet 11 and Tablet 12 Pro can answer questions about visible content after explicit permission. The exact invocation and privacy controls are not yet documented. Fire tablet hands-free Alexa, Show Mode and the Show Mode Charging Dock are separate legacy features, not ways to add screen-aware help.
