Treat it as a starting point, not a finished asset by default: inspect the result, add precise text and layout separately when needed, and confirm that your intended use is allowed.

1. Explore a concept before committing

10. Edit or extend an existing visual
Image-guided generation and editing can help revise a composition, add or remove elements, or extend a scene. Upload only images you have permission to use, and compare the edited result with the original to catch unintended changes.
A practical workflow for using AI art
- Define the asset’s job. Decide who will see it, what it should communicate, and where it will appear.
- Describe the image clearly. Include the subject, action, setting, visual style, and composition constraints. Keep the prompt focused on the result you need.
- Generate and refine in small steps. Review the first pass, then request targeted changes instead of rewriting the entire prompt without a reason. If you use reference images, say what each reference should contribute.
- Inspect details that matter. Check text, faces, hands, logos, proportions, and any facts or product details the image is meant to represent.
- Finish the asset for its destination. Add final typography and layout in a design tool when the generator cannot place them precisely. Check the image’s crop, contrast, and accessibility in the actual format where it will be used.

- Use references and likenesses responsibly. Use reference images, personal data, trademarks, and recognizable likenesses only when you have the necessary permission and the intended use is allowed. Adobe’s guidelines prohibit using its generative features to violate third-party rights; OpenAI’s policies restrict specified deceptive and non-consensual uses (Adobe guidelines; OpenAI usage policies).
- Review before publication. Check factual accuracy, visual quality, brand fit, and accessibility. Provider safeguards do not replace your project’s editorial or legal review; Adobe also instructs users to validate outputs in its generative AI guidelines.
- Be clear when a realistic image could mislead. Follow applicable laws, platform rules, and organizational policy, especially when an image could be mistaken for a real person, event, product, or place (OpenAI usage policies).
For U.S. copyright context, the U.S. Copyright Office stated on January 29, 2025, that AI assistance or AI-generated material included in a larger human-generated work does not by itself bar copyrightability; it also said the case had not been made for additional protection for AI-generated outputs. This is U.S.-specific guidance, not a determination about a particular work or another jurisdiction (U.S. Copyright Office report on copyrightability).
