You do not convert a physical DualSense or DUALSHOCK 4 into a touchscreen device. The supported method is to run PS Remote Play on a compatible phone or tablet, connect to your PS5 or PS4, and tap the virtual controls rendered on the mobile screen. Sony documents those on-screen buttons as an alternative to a physical controller for mobile Remote Play.
The console still runs the game. Your mobile device receives the video stream and sends your taps back as input, so touchscreen controls are a remote-play input method rather than a new controller installed on the console. That distinction matters if you are trying to avoid physical buttons, choosing equipment for accessibility, or deciding whether a Portal touchscreen provides the same function.
What you need
- A PS5 or PS4 configured for Remote Play.
- A compatible touchscreen phone or tablet with the PS Remote Play app available in your country and for your device and operating-system version.

How the touchscreen method works
When Remote Play starts, the app displays virtual game controls over the streamed game image. Tap those controls instead of pressing buttons on a controller. Sony’s PS5 Remote Play instructions document the on-screen buttons and explain that a double tap on the displayed touch pad or stick invokes touch-pad or L3/R3 behavior.
This does not change the game, remap the console’s physical controller, or make touchscreen input identical to pressing a button. - Check support for your device. Confirm that the current PS Remote Play app supports the intended phone or tablet, operating-system version and country. Switching to a physical controller
A DualSense or DUALSHOCK 4 can be used with Remote Play instead of the virtual controls when the mobile device and app support that arrangement. The touchscreen option remains available as the alternative described by Sony. No option should be ranked universally for comfort or accuracy. Consider the Access controller as a separate physical option
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s 2023 launch announcement for the Access controller describes a PS5 accessibility-focused kit with 19 interchangeable button caps and three interchangeable stick caps. It supports profiles, input remapping and disabling buttons; the announcement lists support for 30 control profiles. Those are configurable physical inputs, not touchscreen controls and not a Remote Play feature.
