Google’s Connected Cameras feature lets an eligible Pixel phone switch the active camera in Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok. You can switch between the Pixel’s own camera and one external camera: another eligible Pixel, a GoPro, or a USB camera that supports USB Video Class (UVC), depending on your Pixel model.

It is a switchable-camera workflow, not a documented way to record several external cameras simultaneously. Turn on Connected Cameras, open a supported app, use its Camera Picker, and select the camera you want. The active camera also supplies the audio, so changing angles can change the microphone source.

What “multi-camera” means on a Pixel

On Pixel phones, the relevant feature is called Connected Cameras. It places compatible external cameras in a Camera Picker inside selected social and streaming apps. You can then move from My Pixel to an external camera and back while using the app.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Google’s documentation describes one external camera at a time. It does not document a mode that combines several external feeds into one live view, records them simultaneously, or displays multiple angles side by side. If you need several angles, Connected Cameras can still be useful for switching perspectives during a stream, but it is not a multi-input production mixer.

The supported app list in Google Pixel Help is:

  • Facebook
  • YouTube
  • Instagram
  • Snapchat
  • TikTok

An app outside that list may still have its own camera controls, but Google does not document Connected Cameras support for it. The feature’s availability and behavior can change as Pixel software and app versions change; the compatibility details below reflect Google’s support information accessed October 13, 2026.

Check your Pixel model before connecting anything

Camera choices depend on the device running the app. Use this matrix before buying a camera or planning a Pixel-to-Pixel arrangement.

Pixel device External camera types Google lists Important restriction
Pixel 6 and later, excluding Pixel 10 and Pixel A-series models Another eligible Pixel, a GoPro, or a UVC USB camera Pixel-to-Pixel use requires the account and cross-device conditions described below.
Pixel 10 and Pixel A-series from Pixel 6a onward A GoPro or a UVC USB camera Google does not list another Pixel as an external camera for these models.
Pixel Tablet UVC USB cameras Google does not list another Pixel or a GoPro for this device.

Google’s page does not identify particular GoPro models or particular USB camera models. For USB, the camera must explicitly support the USB Video Class (UVC) specification. Google states: “Only USB cameras with USB Video Class (UVC) specification are supported.” A camera that merely has a USB connector is not automatically compatible.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check the exact Pixel family, the app you intend to use, and the camera’s UVC documentation together. A camera can be suitable in principle yet fail in a particular combination if the phone, app, or connection does not meet the documented requirements.

Prepare the phones, app, and camera

Complete these checks before opening the Camera Picker:

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
  • Confirm that your main device appears in one of the supported Pixel categories.
  • Install or update one of the five supported apps: Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok.
  • For a second Pixel, sign both devices in to the same Google Account and enable cross-device services on both phones.
  • For USB, use a data-capable connection and a camera that identifies itself as UVC.
  • Have the camera powered and ready. A USB camera may need power from the phone or a powered hub, depending on the camera and connection; Google’s support page does not specify power requirements for individual models.
  • Decide which device should provide audio. Connected Cameras changes the audio source with the selected camera, and Google warns that Bluetooth audio can reduce streaming quality.

Turn on Connected Cameras

  1. On the Pixel that will run the social or streaming app, open Settings.
  2. Tap Connected devices.
  3. Tap Connection preferences.
  4. Open Connected Cameras.
  5. Turn on Use Connected Cameras.

This setting makes the Camera Picker available to supported apps. It does not turn the Pixel into a USB webcam and does not make the phone accept every USB camera. Those are separate workflows with different limits.

Use another Pixel as a camera

Pixel-to-Pixel use is the closest match to a wireless multi-angle setup, but it is limited to the Pixel families in Google’s first compatibility category. Pixel 10 and A-series phones are not listed as accepting another Pixel as an external camera.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Turn on Use Connected Cameras on the Pixel that will host the app.
  2. Open Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok on that host Pixel.
  3. Open the app’s Camera Picker when it appears.
  4. Choose Add Pixel.
  5. Select the second Pixel from the list.
  6. Approve the on-screen permission prompt on the second Pixel.
  7. When the second phone is ready, select it in the picker.

Both Pixels must be signed in to the same Google Account, and cross-device services must be enabled on both. If the second phone does not appear, check those account and service requirements before troubleshooting the app.

After you select the second Pixel, the picker shows a countdown. When the countdown ends, the app’s view changes to the selected phone. Choose My Pixel in the picker to return to the host phone’s camera.

Connect a UVC USB camera

A UVC camera provides a wired external angle. This category can be used with the eligible Pixel families listed by Google, including Pixel Tablet for USB cameras.

  1. Enable Settings → Connected devices → Connection preferences → Connected Cameras → Use Connected Cameras.
  2. Open Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok.
  3. Connect the UVC camera to the Pixel with a suitable USB data connection.
  4. When Android asks for permission, grant USB camera access.
  5. Open the app’s Camera Picker and select the connected camera.
  6. Wait for the picker’s countdown to finish. The app then changes to the USB camera’s view.
  7. Select My Pixel whenever you want to return to the phone camera.

Use the camera maker’s specifications to verify UVC support; Google’s documentation does not provide a list of approved models. If the camera is not UVC-compliant, changing cables or permissions will not make it a supported device.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use a GoPro as the external angle

Google lists GoPro as a supported external-camera category for Pixel 6 and later models in the first group, Pixel 10, and Pixel A-series phones from Pixel 6a onward. Pixel Tablet’s listed external option is USB, not GoPro.

The support information does not name compatible GoPro models, connection methods, image-quality limits, or regional availability. Treat “GoPro supported” as a category-level statement rather than a guarantee for every model. Confirm that the exact camera and connection method are recognized by your Pixel and the app before relying on it for a live event.

Once the camera is connected and available, the operational sequence is the same: open a supported app, open Camera Picker, select the GoPro, wait for the countdown, and return to My Pixel when needed.

Switch camera angles during a stream or post

Connected Cameras is designed around changing the active source, not composing multiple feeds. The practical sequence is:

  1. Start the camera, live stream, or recording flow in a supported app.
  2. Open the app’s Camera Picker.
  3. Select the external camera you want to use.
  4. Wait for the countdown and confirm that the preview has changed.
  5. Open the picker again and select another available camera when you need a different angle.
  6. Select My Pixel to return to the built-in camera.

Because the active camera supplies audio, a switch can also move the microphone input. Plan the transition if speech is important. Google specifically cautions that Bluetooth audio may reduce streaming quality; a wired or otherwise reliable audio arrangement may be preferable, but the support page does not prescribe a particular microphone setup.

What each supported app can and cannot do

App Connected Cameras status What to expect
Facebook Listed by Google Use the app’s Camera Picker after enabling Connected Cameras.
YouTube Listed by Google Use the picker to select the Pixel or one available external camera.
Instagram Listed by Google Camera selection depends on the app surface exposing the picker.
Snapchat Listed by Google Switch among the cameras that the Pixel reports as available.
TikTok Listed by Google Use the picker when it appears in the camera or recording workflow.

The table describes Google’s supported-app list, not identical menus inside each app. App updates can move camera controls, so look for the Camera Picker in the active camera or recording interface rather than assuming every app uses the same button.

Connected Cameras is not the same as Pixel webcam mode

Pixel webcam mode sends the Pixel’s own camera to another device over a data-capable USB cable. The receiving device must support UVC, because it treats the Pixel as a USB webcam.

This direction is the reverse of the USB-camera setup described above. In Connected Cameras, an eligible Pixel can select a UVC camera as an input. In webcam mode, the Pixel sends its camera outward. Google explicitly says Pixel devices do not support UVC cameras as webcam inputs, so webcam mode is not a method for plugging a UVC camera into a Pixel and using it as the phone’s camera.

Understand the separate Google Meet camera features

Meet Dual Camera on Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Google documents a dual-camera calling feature for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. It can show the phone’s front and rear cameras at the same time in a Meet call. This is a special Meet feature, not Connected Cameras, and Google limits it to that phone model. Keep Meet or Gmail up to date as required by Google’s instructions.

Camera reversal in the regular Meet mobile app

The standard Meet mobile app can reverse the active camera during a meeting, allowing you to show the front or rear view. Google’s mobile help documentation describes reversing the phone camera, not selecting an external Pixel, GoPro, or USB camera through Connected Cameras. It also says video resolution cannot be adjusted in the Meet mobile app.

Meet hardware-room switching

Google Meet hardware rooms have their own multi-camera control. A touchscreen controller can switch among connected USB cameras or specified Huddly cameras. That capability belongs to Meet room hardware and is not a setup for using a Pixel phone as the camera controller.

Use screen sharing when you need to show the phone, not another lens

If your goal is to demonstrate an app, show a dashboard, or present what is on the Pixel display, screen sharing may be more appropriate than changing camera angles. Google documents Cast and screen projection for this purpose.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pixel 8 and later can connect to an external display with a DisplayPort- or HDMI-to-USB-C cable. In a video-conference app such as Meet, you can share a single app or the full screen. This sends screen content; it does not turn another camera into a live video source.

Troubleshoot a missing camera or failed switch

The Camera Picker does not appear

  • Recheck Settings → Connected devices → Connection preferences → Connected Cameras and make sure Use Connected Cameras is on.
  • Confirm that the app is Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok.
  • Check the Pixel model against the compatibility matrix. A Pixel Tablet, Pixel 10, or A-series phone has narrower options than other Pixel 6-and-later models.
  • Update the app and Pixel software, then reopen the app. Google’s feature availability can change with software updates.

The second Pixel is not listed

  • Verify that the host model is in the Pixel group for which Google lists another Pixel as an external camera.
  • Sign both Pixels in to the same Google Account.
  • Enable cross-device services on both phones.
  • Approve the permission prompt on the second Pixel when requested.

The USB camera is not recognized

  • Confirm from the camera documentation that it supports UVC. This is a requirement, not an optional optimization.
  • Reconnect the camera using a data-capable USB connection.
  • Grant USB camera access when Android prompts you.
  • Check the Pixel model: Pixel Tablet is documented for USB cameras, while other families have the additional GoPro or Pixel options listed above.
  • If the camera still does not appear, Google’s support page does not provide a universal model list or troubleshooting guarantee; test the exact camera-and-phone combination before an important stream.

The view changes but the audio is wrong

Connected Cameras uses the audio source associated with the camera currently in use. Select the intended camera before speaking, and remember Google’s warning that Bluetooth audio can reduce streaming quality. The documentation does not promise that a separate Bluetooth microphone will remain independent of camera switching.

The switch does not happen immediately

The Camera Picker uses a countdown before changing the view. Wait for it to finish and verify the preview. Selecting the camera again or returning to My Pixel can re-establish the desired source if the first selection was interrupted.

Choose the right workflow

Use the following decision path:

  1. If you want to switch between the phone and one external angle inside Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok, use Connected Cameras.
  2. If the external angle is another phone, confirm that the Pixel family supports Pixel-to-Pixel use, then prepare the same Google Account and cross-device services.
  3. If the external angle is wired, choose a camera that explicitly supports UVC and grant USB access when prompted.
  4. If you want the Pixel camera to appear on a computer or other receiver, use Pixel webcam mode instead; that is an outbound webcam connection.
  5. If you need front and rear views simultaneously in a Meet call, the documented phone-specific option is Meet Dual Camera on Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
  6. If you need to present the phone interface rather than a camera angle, use screen sharing or a supported USB-C display connection.

Limits to plan around

  • Only one external camera is documented at a time.
  • The five-app list is specific; Google does not promise Connected Cameras support in every Android camera or meeting app.
  • Pixel-family compatibility is uneven, especially for Pixel-to-Pixel connections.
  • Google does not enumerate compatible GoPro or USB camera models in the cited support material.
  • The documentation does not establish universal image-quality, latency, simultaneous-recording, or regional-rollout limits.
  • Changing cameras can change the audio source, and Bluetooth audio may reduce streaming quality.

For a reliable setup, verify the exact Pixel, app, and camera combination in advance, keep the camera permission path available, and test the switch and audio before going live.
