On a Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung’s built-in Privacy Display can make the screen harder to read from the side. Turn it on from Quick Panel or Settings, then choose whether it activates for selected apps, credential entry, or notification pop-ups. It reduces side-angle visibility; it does not guarantee that nobody nearby can see sensitive information.
Turn on Privacy Display on Galaxy S26 Ultra
Samsung documents this feature for Galaxy S26 Ultra; these instructions are not universal Android or iPhone steps. Menu names and appearance can vary with the model and software version.
Use Quick Panel
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open Quick Panel.
- Touch and hold the Privacy Display icon.
- Switch on Turn on Privacy display, then tap Done.
Samsung UK’s instructions also describe enabling the feature in Settings.

Use Settings
- Open Settings > Display > Privacy Display.
- Enable Privacy Display.
Set when it activates
Privacy Display settings let you configure conditions so the screen’s side-angle protection turns on for selected apps, when entering a PIN, pattern, or password, or when notification pop-ups appear. These options are useful if you want protection only for particular content rather than leaving the mode on all the time.

Choose maximum protection, and know the trade-offs
Samsung offers a Maximum privacy protection setting that narrows the viewing angle further. The stronger setting can dim or slightly blur the screen or change its colors. Samsung also warns that the display may look darker outdoors; if visibility is poor, turn Privacy Display off or use its activation conditions instead of keeping it on continuously.

What the feature can—and cannot—do
Samsung describes Privacy Display as controlling how the screen’s pixels disperse light to limit visibility from side angles when enabled. Its product explanation says the full display experience is preserved from any direction when the feature is off. The description is from Samsung, not an independent efficacy test.
Privacy Display makes side viewing more difficult, but it is not a guarantee against someone seeing sensitive content. Samsung notes that what remains visible depends on the viewing environment, including angle and brightness. Consider who is nearby and what is behind you before opening private information in a public place. Samsung’s US support page also discusses the feature and its limitations.

Built-in mode or physical privacy protector?
The built-in option is available on the supported Galaxy S26 Ultra and can be switched on manually or configured around particular apps and content. A physical privacy filter is a possible alternative for a phone without this feature, but it is model-specific and can have ongoing display and touch trade-offs.
| Option | Availability and control | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 Ultra Privacy Display | Built into the supported phone; can be switched on when needed or configured for selected conditions. | Maximum protection may dim, slightly blur, or alter colors; side-angle protection is not a guarantee of secrecy. |
| Physical privacy protector | Must fit the exact phone model. For example, StarTech documents a 4-Way Privacy Screen for iPhone 15 that supports portrait and landscape use and touch. Its stated visibility specification is beyond 30 degrees from center (a 60-degree viewing area); that is the manufacturer’s product specification, not an independent test or general privacy standard. | Samsung says conventional protectors can permanently reduce brightness and clarity and may affect touch responsiveness. It specifically warns that third-party privacy protectors may reduce brightness on Galaxy S26 Ultra. |
