Open Arsenal > Mods, select the mod, choose Fusion or Upgrade, select Legendary Core as the fusion material, and confirm. The core is consumed and the chosen mod reaches maximum rank without the usual Endo and Credit cost. Save it for an expensive mod you expect to use repeatedly.
What a Legendary Core does
A Legendary Core is a one-use fusion item that instantly takes one selected, rankable mod to its maximum rank. Instead of paying the normal Endo and Credit cost for the upgrade, you spend the core. The result is the same as fully ranking the mod through ordinary fusion: the mod remains in your collection at maximum rank and can be installed in eligible builds.
Digital Extremes describes Endo as the resource that powers mod upgrades. Normal fusion uses Endo and Credits to raise a mod through whole ranks. A Legendary Core replaces that upgrade investment for the one mod you select. It does not create a copy, increase a mod’s capacity beyond its normal maximum, or permanently improve every copy of that mod.

The core is consumed only after you confirm the transaction. Until confirmation, you can leave the screen without spending it.
#1 Best Overall
What you need before using one
- A Legendary Core in your inventory: Confirm the item name in your inventory or trade interface. An Ancient Core is a different item.
- A rankable mod: The mod must have upgrade ranks available. A fully ranked mod has nothing for the core to do.
- Access to the Mods screen: You can reach it from the Arsenal or from an item’s Upgrade screen.
- A deliberate target: The core is consumed, so decide which mod benefits most before opening the fusion confirmation.
Button labels and menu placement can vary by platform and by later interface updates. Look for the screen that shows the mod’s current rank, target rank, and fusion-material choices; the relevant action may be labeled Fusion or Upgrade.
Step-by-step: use a Legendary Core
- Open the Arsenal. From your Orbiter, enter Arsenal and choose Mods. You can alternatively open a weapon, Warframe, companion, or other item and select its Upgrade path to reach the mod interface.
- Select the mod. Choose the specific mod you want to rank. Check its current rank and confirm that it still has levels available.
- Open the fusion screen. Choose Fusion or Upgrade. The screen should show the normal Endo and Credit requirement for raising the mod.
- Choose the fusion material. In the material choices, select Legendary Core. Do not select an ordinary Endo quantity or another core if your intention is to use the Legendary Core.
- Check the preview. The target rank should change to the mod’s maximum rank. The normal Endo and Credit requirement should be replaced by the Legendary Core, not added to it.
- Confirm the transaction. Accept the on-screen confirmation. The core is consumed, and the selected mod remains at maximum rank when the process finishes.
- Verify the result. Reopen the mod details and check the rank indicator. If you plan to install it immediately, open the relevant item’s Upgrade screen and confirm that the max-ranked mod is available.
Do not confirm until the preview identifies both the correct mod and the Legendary Core. A Legendary Core cannot be recovered by canceling after confirmation.
How to choose the best mod
The strongest use is usually a high-cost mod that will remain useful across many builds. This is a practical value judgment rather than a developer rule: ordinary Endo and Credits are easier to replace than a scarce instant-maximization item, so the benefit grows with the mod’s normal upgrade cost and how often you will reuse it.
Prioritize expensive, broadly reusable mods
Consider a Primed, Galvanized, Archon, or similarly expensive mod when it appears in many of your loadouts. These categories are examples of the kind of target that can justify skipping the full Endo and Credit investment. The exact best choice depends on the builds you actually play, not merely on a mod’s name or rarity.
- High normal upgrade cost: A core saves more resources on a costly max-rank journey than on a cheap mod.
- Frequent reuse: A mod installed on many Warframes, weapons, companions, or other builds gives the upgrade continuing value.
- Long-term relevance: Favor a mod you expect to keep using rather than one tied to a temporary experiment.
- Immediate build need: If reaching maximum rank unlocks a build you are actively assembling, the instant result may be worth more than holding the item indefinitely.
When saving the core is wiser
Hold it if your likely targets are inexpensive, rarely used, or still uncertain. You can rank those mods through ordinary fusion when you have enough Endo and Credits. Spending a Legendary Core on a temporary test build can leave you without the shortcut when a much more expensive, reusable mod becomes important.
Rank #2
A simple scoring method
Before confirming, rate each candidate on four questions:
- Would normal fusion require a large Endo and Credit investment?
- Will the mod appear in several of your future builds?
- Will you continue using those builds after your current goal?
- Does max rank solve an immediate capacity or performance problem?
A mod that scores strongly on all four is a better candidate than one that is merely rare. Rarity alone does not tell you how much practical value the core will provide.

What the core saves—and what it does not
| Item or outcome | Effect when using a Legendary Core |
|---|---|
| Selected mod | Reaches its maximum rank in one confirmed transaction. |
| Endo | The normal Endo requirement for that upgrade is replaced by the core. |
| Credits | The normal Credit requirement for that upgrade is replaced by the core. |
| Legendary Core inventory | Decreases by one after confirmation. |
| Other mods | Unaffected; the core applies only to the mod selected on the fusion screen. |
| Future copies or ranks | Not automatically upgraded. The transaction concerns the selected mod only. |
The core is therefore a shortcut, not a permanent account-wide upgrade. It does not refund resources you already spent on a different mod, and it does not make an unrankable or already max-ranked mod eligible.
Legendary Core versus Ancient Core
These names are easy to confuse, but they do not have the same function. Digital Extremes forum staff member [DE]Drew stated in 2016: “Unlike Legendary Cores, Ancient Cores do NOT have the ability to maximize the rank of a mod.”
| Question | Legendary Core | Ancient Core |
|---|---|---|
| Can it maximize a selected mod? | Yes. | No. |
| Can it replace the normal Endo and Credit upgrade cost for a max-rank transaction? | Yes, when selected in the fusion screen. | It does not provide the Legendary Core’s max-rank function. |
| What should you do if the expected option is missing? | Verify that the item is actually a Legendary Core and that the mod still has ranks available. | Do not expect it to behave like a Legendary Core. |
Read the item’s description in the inventory or trade interface before confirming a transaction. Similar names are not evidence that the items are interchangeable.

Why the Legendary Core option may not appear
The mod is already at maximum rank
A fully ranked mod has no remaining fusion levels. Select a mod with a current rank below its maximum and reopen the fusion screen.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou selected the wrong item
Check the material’s exact name. An Ancient Core or another fusion item will not necessarily expose the Legendary Core option. Use the inventory or trade description rather than relying on the icon alone.
You are not in the fusion interface
Opening a mod’s details is not enough. Enter Fusion or Upgrade so the screen displays available materials and the target rank.
The selected item is not rankable in that context
Choose a normal rankable mod from your collection. If the interface does not show a current rank, maximum rank, or fusion controls, return to the Mods list and select a different entry.
The interface wording differs on your platform
Look for the equivalent action even if the button is not labeled exactly Fusion. The decisive checks are the material selection, a preview showing maximum rank, and the replacement of the normal Endo and Credit requirement.

Should you use the core or trade it?
A Legendary Core has two legitimate uses: immediate account progress or an in-game trade. There is no authoritative current drop-rate or stable market-price figure to use as a universal cash-value comparison, so make the decision from your own upgrade plans and the trade offer in front of you.
| Decision factor | Use it on a mod | Trade it |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate upgrade power | You get a maximum-rank mod immediately. | You give up the direct upgrade and receive whatever the other player offers through the trade. |
| Endo and Credit savings | You avoid the normal cost for the selected mod. | You do not receive those savings unless you later use the traded proceeds to fund another upgrade. |
| Target-mod rarity and cost | Best when you have an expensive, difficult-to-fund target. | More attractive when you have no high-priority target and the offer is useful to your account. |
| Reuse across builds | High reuse increases the long-term value of the max-ranked mod. | Trade value may be preferable if your builds rarely use the candidate mods. |
| Progress preference | Choose this for guaranteed build progress now. | Choose this for flexibility, provided the exchange is worthwhile and supported. |
How to trade a Legendary Core safely
Digital Extremes’ official trading guidance says that all mods in your inventory—including Warframe, Weapon, Companion, and Augment mods—are eligible for trade, and it specifically includes Legendary Cores. Use only the in-game Trade interface.
- Open a supported in-game trade. Start the trade through Warframe’s normal Trade UI with the other player.
- Place the Legendary Core in the trade window. Select the item from your inventory and verify that the displayed name is Legendary Core.
- Inspect the other side. Confirm the exact items or currency the other player has added before accepting.
- Recheck after any change. If either player changes the contents, inspect the complete trade again before confirmation.
- Accept only inside the interface. Complete the transaction through the game’s confirmation process.
Digital Extremes warns that trades for cash or services outside the Trade UI are unsupported and can lead to account penalties. Do not send a core first, use an external payment arrangement, or rely on a promise to complete the exchange later.
Practical examples
You have one costly mod and many cheap upgrades left
Use ordinary Endo and Credits on the cheap upgrades and reserve the core for the costly mod you expect to install repeatedly. This preserves the shortcut for the upgrade where it replaces the largest routine investment.
You are testing a temporary build
Do not spend the core merely to finish a short experiment unless the immediate result is worth losing the item. Rank the test mod normally if its long-term place in your builds is unclear.
You have no target but receive a useful in-game offer
Compare the offer with the value of a future max-rank upgrade. Because no stable universal market-price figure is established here, the correct choice depends on your inventory, upcoming builds, and how difficult the offered items would be for you to obtain by other means.
Final checklist before confirmation
- Is the selected item a Legendary Core, not an Ancient Core?
- Is the chosen mod below maximum rank?
- Does the preview show maximum rank?
- Have the normal Endo and Credit requirements been replaced by the core?
- Will you reuse this mod enough to justify consuming a scarce shortcut?
- Are you on the final confirmation screen, and are you comfortable with the core being consumed?
If all six answers are yes, confirm the fusion. If any answer is no, cancel and review the target before spending the item.
