To move a Conan Exiles single-player or co-op world to a dedicated PC server, stop the destination server, back up its current database, and upload the matching local world file through SFTP or the host’s file manager. Use game.db for Exiled Lands and DLC_Siptah.db (sometimes displayed as dlc_siptah.db) for Isle of Siptah. Restart the server only after the upload finishes, then verify your character, buildings, inventory, and progression.

What you need before uploading

A world transfer is a database replacement, not a normal save-folder copy. The destination server will load the database you place in its Conan Exiles save directory, so prepare both machines before touching the live file.

  • A local Conan Exiles installation: You must be able to open its ConanSandboxSaved folder.
  • Access to the server panel or SFTP: Your provider may offer a browser file manager, SFTP credentials, or both.
  • A complete stop/start control: Do not copy over a server that is still running.
  • A backup location: Keep the destination database somewhere outside the live save directory before replacing it.
  • Matching conditions: Plan to use the same map, compatible client and server versions, and the mods required by the world.

If you cannot stop the server or create a backup, ask the host for a maintenance window and a restore point first. A failed upload is recoverable when the original database is preserved; it is much harder to recover after an unprotected overwrite.

Which file contains your Conan Exiles world?

Conan Exiles stores a world in a SQLite database. The filename depends on the map you want the server to load.

Map Database file What it contains
Exiled Lands game.db The Exiled Lands world, including its characters, structures, inventories, and progression.
Isle of Siptah DLC_Siptah.db (often shown in lowercase as dlc_siptah.db) The Isle of Siptah world database.

Do not substitute one file for the other. Uploading game.db while the server is configured for Isle of Siptah will not move the Siptah world. Likewise, a Siptah database is not the Exiled Lands save. Windows file systems are generally case-insensitive, but preserve the filename and spelling used by your host’s panel.

Step-by-step: upload the world

1. Stop the destination server

Open the hosting control panel and choose Stop (or the equivalent shutdown command). Wait until the panel reports that the process is fully stopped. This prevents the game from writing new data while you are replacing its database and avoids transferring a partially updated file.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not rely on merely disconnecting players or closing the panel tab. The server process itself must be offline before you copy or overwrite a database.

2. Back up the current destination world

Before uploading anything, download the server’s existing database or use the panel’s backup function. Give the copy a dated name such as game_before_import_2026-10-15.db and store it outside the live save folder. If you later decide to undo the migration, this is the file you will restore.

Some providers create numbered automatic copies such as game_backup_1.db. The number, retention period, and restore controls vary by provider, so confirm where those backups are stored instead of assuming they are available indefinitely.

3. Locate the local save on your PC

On the computer that contains the single-player or co-op world, open the Conan Exiles installation’s ConanSandboxSaved directory. The main world file is game.db for Exiled Lands. If you played Isle of Siptah, look for DLC_Siptah.db or the lowercase form dlc_siptah.db.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the file’s modified time and size to identify the save you most recently played. If several copies exist, launch the local game, make a harmless change, exit normally, and then sort the directory by modified date. That gives you a practical way to distinguish the active database without guessing.

Copy the source database to a temporary folder before uploading. Working from a copy protects the local world if an SFTP transfer is interrupted or a panel operation fails.

4. Confirm the destination map

Check the server’s map setting in its control panel or startup configuration. The destination must be running the same map as the database you selected:

  • For Exiled Lands, select the normal Exiled Lands map and upload game.db.
  • For Isle of Siptah, select Isle of Siptah and upload DLC_Siptah.db.

If the panel has a separate field for a map-specific database, follow that provider’s label rather than renaming files at random. A correct filename in the wrong map directory still produces an empty or apparently new world.

5. Connect with the host’s file manager or SFTP

Use whichever transfer method your host supplies.

Browser file manager

Open the server’s file manager, navigate to the Conan Exiles save directory, and locate the existing database. Common panels expose an upload button and an overwrite confirmation. Leave the browser window open until the transfer reaches 100 percent and the panel reports completion.

SFTP

Connect with an SFTP client using the hostname, port, username, password or key, and directory supplied by the host. Paths are not universal. One provider documents a save location of /server-data/; another documents /ConanSandbox/Saved/game.db. Treat those as examples, not a universal path. If you see more than one ConanSandbox directory, use the one containing the live server’s current database and configuration.

SFTP is preferable for large files because it can resume or clearly report transfer errors, but a browser manager is sufficient when it supports reliable uploads and overwrite confirmation.

6. Upload the matching database and overwrite the server copy

Upload the local database into the destination save directory. When prompted, choose Overwrite for the existing file only after confirming that:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • the server is stopped;
  • you have a separate backup of the destination database;
  • the filename matches the selected map; and
  • the upload is the copy of the local save you actually intend to migrate.

Do not upload the entire local Saved folder over the server folder unless your provider explicitly instructs you to do so. The world database is the item being replaced; configuration, logs, and provider-managed files may need to remain untouched.

After the transfer, check the remote file’s size and modified time. If the panel provides checksums, compare the remote and local values. A file with an unchanged timestamp or a dramatically different size usually indicates that the wrong path was used or the upload did not complete.

7. Start the server and verify the imported world

Start the server from the panel and wait for it to finish booting. Join using the same map you selected in step 4. Verify the migration in a deliberate order:

  1. Confirm that the expected map loads rather than a fresh starting world.
  2. Check that your character or characters are present.
  3. Visit a known base to confirm buildings, storage containers, and crafting stations.
  4. Inspect an inventory or chest for expected items.
  5. Check progression, learned recipes, and other world state.
  6. Have another intended player connect if the save came from co-op.

Once those checks pass, stop and restart the server once more during a quiet period. This confirms that the server can write the imported database and load it again after a normal shutdown.

Moving a single-player or co-op save

The same database replacement procedure is used for a local single-player world and a co-op world. The important distinction is operational: a local save may contain only your own character, while a co-op save can include several player records and a larger amount of world activity. Transfer the database that was written when the host player last exited the game normally.

Before inviting players to the dedicated server, have everyone close the local co-op session and update their game. A player who connects with an incompatible client version or a missing required mod can experience connection errors or missing content even when the database itself is correct.

Do not attempt to merge two independent worlds by copying one database over another. The upload replaces the destination world; it does not combine characters, buildings, maps, or inventories. If both worlds matter, retain separate backups and choose one as the dedicated server’s starting world.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Version, mod, and configuration compatibility

A database is only useful when the dedicated server can interpret the content it references. Keep the client and server on compatible game versions and install the required mods in a compatible order and version. A world that depends on a removed or changed mod may fail to load correctly, omit assets, or prevent players from joining.

Funcom’s dedicated-server documentation places Windows server configuration under ConanSandboxSavedConfigWindowsServer. That directory is separate from the world database, so do not delete or overwrite it during a save migration unless you are intentionally moving configuration as well. Review server settings after the import, especially the map, password, admin settings, and mod list.

If the server was upgraded as part of an Enhanced migration, follow the migration instructions for the relevant edition and make a fresh backup first. The required map files remain distinct: Exiled Lands uses game.db, while Isle of Siptah uses DLC_Siptah.db.

Troubleshooting after the upload

The server loads a new world instead of my save

  • Stop the server again before inspecting files.
  • Confirm that the uploaded file is in the live save directory, not a similarly named staging or backup folder.
  • Check that the remote filename is exactly game.db for Exiled Lands or the Siptah database for Isle of Siptah.
  • Verify that the upload actually overwrote the old file by checking its timestamp and size.
  • Make sure the server’s selected map matches the database.

If the original destination database was backed up, restore it while stopped and repeat the transfer with the correct path.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Isle of Siptah content is missing

Check that you uploaded the Siptah database rather than game.db, and that the server is configured for Isle of Siptah. A map mismatch is the first thing to correct before changing other settings.

The server will not start or players cannot connect

Compare the server and client versions, then compare the required mod list and mod versions. Remove only a known incompatible mod, and keep a backup before making further changes. Also confirm that the database transfer was complete and that the server process has permission to read and write the save directory.

My changes disappear after a restart

Check that the server is writing to the same database you uploaded. Some panels expose multiple instances or directories; verify the path shown in the startup configuration and inspect the database timestamp after a clean shutdown. Restore the pre-import copy if repeated restarts make the world worse.

The transfer fails partway through

Delete the incomplete remote file while the server is stopped, then retry from the temporary local copy. SFTP clients can provide clearer error messages and resumable transfers. Do not start the server with a partial database.

Choosing a host for save imports

If you are selecting a Conan Exiles host specifically to migrate an existing world, evaluate the operational features rather than only the advertised player count.

Capability Questions to ask before purchasing Why it matters during a migration
File access Is SFTP available, or only a browser file manager? Can you see the full save path? You need a dependable way to upload and verify a database.
Backups and restore Are backups automatic, numbered, downloadable, and restorable from the panel? How long are they retained? An overwrite is reversible only when a usable copy exists.
Map-specific files Does the panel document both the Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah database locations? The correct file depends on the map; ambiguous paths increase the risk of loading a blank world.
Mod management Can you install, reorder, update, and disable mods without editing files manually? Version and load-order compatibility often determines whether an imported world starts.
Resources What RAM, CPU, storage, and player limits apply to the plan? A save can import successfully yet perform poorly if the server is undersized.
Existing-save support Does support explicitly assist with importing a local or co-op database? Clear procedures reduce downtime when a path or permission problem occurs.

Choose a service that documents its actual remote path and backup workflow. The exact directories differ between providers, so instructions copied from one panel should not be applied blindly to another.

Dedicated-server installation and network context

For a self-managed PC server, Funcom distributes Conan Exiles Dedicated Server through Steam’s tools. Funcom’s dedicated-server documentation identifies the default ports as 7777 for game traffic and 27015 for query traffic. If players cannot find or join the server after a successful import, check the host firewall, router or cloud security rules, and the server’s configured ports.

Funcom’s 2017 setup article supplied these example resource figures:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Target player count RAM in the 2017 example Disk in the 2017 example How to interpret it
10 players 8 GB 35 GB Historical example, not a current performance guarantee.
35 players 8 GB 35 GB Historical example, not a current performance guarantee.
70 players 12 GB 35 GB Historical example, not a current performance guarantee.

Those figures are dated guidance and should not be treated as a promise that every current build, mod list, or player population will perform identically. Mods, simulation load, backups, logs, and operating-system overhead all affect the resources available to the game.

Safe rollback procedure

If the imported world is not the one you intended, stop the server immediately. Keep the uploaded file instead of deleting it, then restore the dated destination backup to the original filename and start the server for a recovery check. If your provider created automatic copies, identify the copy made immediately before the import; numbering and retention differ by host.

For future migrations, keep three clearly named copies: the original local source, the pre-import destination database, and the uploaded transfer copy. Record the map, game version, mod list, and upload date beside each file. That simple record prevents an accidental overwrite from becoming permanent and makes a later move to another host much easier.
