If your Galaxy A57 will not start, connect it to Samsung Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac with a USB-C data cable. If Smart Switch recognizes the phone and offers Update, follow that prompt without disconnecting the cable. If an update failed and Smart Switch shows a recovery entry, use MORE → Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization. If the computer cannot recognize the phone, try another USB port and reinstall Smart Switch’s device driver. A phone that remains unresponsive, has physical damage, or repeatedly fails recovery needs Samsung service.
Menu names and recovery availability can differ by exact model code, software build, carrier, and country. Samsung’s 2026 update record identifies SM-A576B as one Galaxy A57 5G variant, not as a universal identifier for every A57 sold worldwide.
What Smart Switch can—and cannot—do when an A57 will not start
Smart Switch is Samsung’s desktop utility for transferring data and installing device software. Its update function works only when the computer can communicate with the phone, either normally or through an emergency-recovery state. A completely unpowered phone, a failed USB connection, or a hardware fault may prevent Smart Switch from offering any repair.

Prepare the A57, computer, and cable
Confirm the exact phone model
Galaxy A57 instructions are not guaranteed to be identical across regions or carrier editions. Look for the model code on the retail label, the original documentation, or any Samsung account/device record that remains accessible. The code SM-A576B appears in Samsung’s 2026 Galaxy A57 5G software-update record; other regional codes can have different firmware and prompts. Do not substitute a key combination or firmware instruction intended for another model.
Install Smart Switch for desktop
Install the current Samsung Smart Switch application on a Mac or Windows PC. Open it after installation and allow it to finish loading before connecting the phone. If Smart Switch is already installed but has behaved unusually, close it completely and relaunch it before trying recovery.
Use a USB-C cable that carries data
Use the USB cable supplied with the Galaxy when possible, or another USB-C cable explicitly rated for data transfer. A charge-only cable can power or charge a phone without creating the data connection Smart Switch needs. Connect directly to a computer port rather than through a hub, monitor, keyboard, or docking station during recovery.
Reduce interruption risks
- Keep the computer connected to stable power.
- Disconnect other phones and high-bandwidth USB devices while troubleshooting.
- Do not move the cable or close Smart Switch during an installation.
- Do not use the A57 while Smart Switch is updating it.
Try the normal Smart Switch update first
This route is appropriate when Smart Switch can identify the A57, even if the phone is stuck at the Samsung logo or repeatedly restarting.

- Install and open Smart Switch on the Mac or Windows PC.
- Connect the A57 directly to the computer with the USB-C data cable.
- Wait for Smart Switch to identify the device. If a newer software version is available, the program displays an Update option.
- Select Update and read the requirements and warnings shown by Smart Switch.
- Accept the prompts and let the program download and install the software.
- Leave the USB cable connected and do not use the phone until Smart Switch reports that the update is complete.
Samsung specifically warns not to disconnect the USB cable or use the device during the update. An interruption can leave the phone in an emergency-recovery state and require the procedure below.
If the phone appears frozen during installation
Do not immediately unplug it because the display is not changing. Smart Switch may be transferring or applying firmware while the phone screen remains dark. Wait for the desktop application to show completion, an explicit error, or a recovery instruction. If Smart Switch reports failure, close the program, restart it, and use its emergency-recovery menu rather than repeatedly starting normal updates.
Recover an update failure with Emergency Software Recovery
Use this path when an update was interrupted or Smart Switch displays the A57 as requiring emergency recovery. The wording can vary slightly by Smart Switch release, but the menu is under MORE.

- Disconnect the A57 if Smart Switch instructs you to do so.
- Close Smart Switch, then reopen it on the same computer.
- At the top of the Smart Switch window, select MORE → Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization. Samsung’s help text also describes this area as MORE → Emergency Software Recovery.
- Select the device listed for emergency recovery.
- Read the information displayed by Smart Switch and choose OK to continue.
- Follow the exact on-screen instructions for placing this model in recovery mode. The prompts may require a particular cable connection or button action.
- Allow Smart Switch to download and install the recovery software. Keep the computer powered and the cable connected until the application confirms completion.
- When Smart Switch finishes, wait for the phone to restart on its own. Do not interrupt the first boot while it rebuilds software.
The menu includes the word Initialization. Review every warning before accepting it, particularly if the A57 becomes usable again and you have an opportunity to copy personal data. Recovery is intended to repair software, but Smart Switch does not guarantee preservation of data in every failed-update condition.

When Smart Switch supplies a recovery code
If recovery cannot be completed on the original computer, Smart Switch can provide a code for another computer.
- On the computer where the update failed, open MORE → Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization.
- Write down the recovery code shown for the failed device. The code is available only on that computer and should be copied exactly.
- Install and open Smart Switch on a second Mac or Windows PC.
- Open MORE → Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization.
- Choose Emergency recovery using the recovery code.
- Enter the code, select the matching recovery option, and follow Smart Switch’s instructions for connecting and placing the A57 into recovery mode.
- Keep the phone connected until the second computer reports that recovery has finished.
If the code is missing, expired, or rejected, return to the original computer and check the recovery screen again. Do not invent a code or substitute the phone’s model number.
Fix “Smart Switch does not recognize my Galaxy A57”
Recognition problems can come from the cable, USB port, desktop driver, or the phone’s current state. Work through these checks in order.
Reconnect once before changing settings
- Close Smart Switch.
- Disconnect the USB-C cable from the computer and the phone.
- Reconnect both ends firmly, then reopen Smart Switch.
- Wait for the program to scan for the device.
This retry is most useful when the A57 can still power on. A phone that is completely unable to boot may not expose the normal connection interface; in that case, use emergency recovery only if Smart Switch presents the device in that state.

Try a different USB port
Move the cable to another USB port on the same computer, preferably a port directly attached to the computer rather than a hub. A port can provide charging power while failing to maintain a reliable data link. If the second port works, leave the phone there for the entire update or recovery.
Reinstall Smart Switch’s device driver
- Open Smart Switch.
- Select MORE → Reinstall device driver.
- Allow the driver installation to finish.
- Restart Smart Switch and reconnect the A57.
- Try the update again, or select emergency recovery if Smart Switch identifies the failed device.
Reinstalling the driver addresses the computer’s communication layer; it cannot repair a damaged USB connector or a phone that has no functioning hardware.
Replace the cable if the connection repeatedly drops
Use a different known-good USB-C data cable if the phone connects and disconnects, charges inconsistently, or disappears during detection. Do not assume that a cable works for data merely because it charges another device.

Boot loop with Smart Switch detection
Connect the phone while it is cycling and watch Smart Switch rather than repeatedly forcing restarts. If the program offers Update, use the normal procedure. If it lists the phone for emergency recovery, use that route. A boot loop can be caused by a software glitch, an incompatible app, low battery, or a hardware fault, so a successful update is not guaranteed.

Black screen but the computer detects the phone
Leave the phone connected and use the option Smart Switch provides. The desktop program may be able to communicate while the display is not usable. Do not guess a recovery key sequence; the reviewed Samsung guidance does not publish one universal Galaxy A57 hardware-key sequence for recovery or download mode. Follow the variant-specific instructions shown by Smart Switch or supplied by Samsung Support.
No detection, no display, and no recovery entry
After checking the cable and USB port, stop treating the problem as a routine software update. Smart Switch must recognize the device or present an emergency-recovery entry. If neither happens, professional diagnosis is the appropriate next step, especially when the phone was dropped, exposed to liquid, overheated, or has a damaged connector.
Understand data, model, and regional limitations
Recovery is not a guaranteed data-preservation method
Normal software updating is designed to retain the phone’s existing installation, but a failed update can require emergency recovery or initialization. Read the warnings Smart Switch displays and copy data first if the phone becomes operational. If the A57 cannot boot, there may be no way to create a new backup before repair.

Model code, carrier, country, and installed software version influence whether an update appears and which recovery prompts are available. The presence of an SM-A576B update record does not authorize firmware intended for another A57 variant. Use Smart Switch’s detection and instructions for the connected device rather than manually selecting an unrelated package.
Menu wording can change
Samsung may label the same recovery area as Emergency Software Recovery in one Smart Switch help page and Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization in the application. Look under MORE and choose the entry that identifies emergency recovery for the failed device.
When to stop and contact Samsung service
Escalate instead of repeating recovery attempts when any of these conditions applies:
- The phone has visible physical damage, a bent frame, liquid exposure, or a damaged USB port.
- Smart Switch never detects the A57 after trying a data-rated cable, another direct USB port, and driver reinstallation.
- Emergency recovery fails on the original computer and with the recovery code on a second computer.
- The phone remains unable to boot after Smart Switch reports a completed repair.
- The device becomes unusually hot, emits an odor, or behaves erratically during connection.
Tell the service technician the exact model code, carrier or region, what happened immediately before the failure, and whether Smart Switch displayed an error or recovery code. Keep the cable and computer details available; they can help distinguish a communication problem from a phone fault.
