To stop horoscope marketing, use the unsubscribe method in the email or reply to a legitimate automated text with a clear opt-out such as STOP. Do not click an unsubscribe link in a message that looks fraudulent. Instead, report it, block it, and verify any supposed sender through a website or phone number you already know is genuine. This guide reflects U.S. federal guidance; readers elsewhere should check their local regulator’s rules.
First identify the message you received
The safest next step depends on whether the horoscope arrived by email or SMS. Commercial email and automated text alerts have different opt-out practices. The federal email deadline described below should not be transferred to text messages.

These approaches follow the Federal Trade Commission’s commercial-email guidance, its consumer advice on spam texts, and the Federal Communications Commission’s 2024 order.
How to unsubscribe from horoscope emails
1. Open a recent message and find its opt-out control
Open a recent horoscope newsletter or promotion and look for a link labeled Unsubscribe, Manage preferences, or similar wording. The sender may place it in the footer, but it must be clear and easy to recognize for commercial email under CAN-SPAM. Follow the page and confirm the opt-out if the sender asks you to do so.

A sender may let you stop only certain categories, such as daily forecasts, weekly newsletters, or promotional offers. It must also provide a way to stop all marketing messages from that sender. Choose the all-marketing option when you no longer want any promotional horoscope email.
2. Record what you opted out of
After submitting the request, save the confirmation page or confirmation email if one appears. Note the address that sent the message and the date of the request. This is useful when several horoscope brands use different mailing lists or when you need to report continued messages to your mailbox provider.
3. Understand the commercial-email timing rules
The FTC guide states that a commercial-email sender must honor an opt-out within 10 business days. The opt-out mechanism must remain able to process requests for at least 30 days after the message was sent. These are compliance requirements for commercial email, not a promise that every message will disappear immediately and not a deadline that automatically applies to SMS.

The FTC guide does not state a publication year for these figures. Apply them to commercial email, not to every text alert or account notification.
4. Separate marketing mail from account messages
Being a member or subscriber does not by itself remove your right to opt out of marketing email. However, a sender can still send narrowly defined transactional or relationship messages, such as information needed to complete a transaction or report an account change. An unsubscribe request for promotions therefore may not stop a password-reset notice, billing message, service interruption alert, or another message required to administer your account.

If you need to stop all contact, review the service’s account settings or close the account through a channel you independently verify. Do not assume that an email marketing opt-out deletes the account or cancels a paid membership.
5. Use provider controls when the link is missing or broken
If the message has no working opt-out route, use the controls supplied by your email provider. The FTC recommends checking your provider’s own instructions for actions such as:
- Using the mailbox’s built-in Unsubscribe control, when available.
- Marking the message as Spam or Junk.
- Blocking the sender’s address.
- Blocking the sending domain, if your provider offers domain-level blocking.
A provider-level action helps keep future messages out of your inbox even when the sender does not offer a usable link. It does not necessarily remove you from the sender’s mailing list, so use the sender’s verified opt-out route as well when it is safe to do so.
6. Do not trust a suspicious unsubscribe link
An unexpected horoscope email can be a phishing attempt. A link labeled “unsubscribe” can lead to a fake sign-in page, download, or form asking for information. Do not click it simply because you want the messages to stop. Do not provide passwords, payment-card details, bank information, Social Security numbers, or other sensitive data.
Instead, report the email through your mail service, then delete it or leave it in the spam-reporting folder. If you think the message might genuinely come from a service you use, open a new browser window and type the service’s known address yourself, or use a phone number from a statement or another trusted source. Do not use contact details contained in the suspicious email.

How to stop horoscope text alerts
1. Verify that the text is from a service you recognize
Before replying, consider whether you knowingly signed up for horoscope alerts and whether the sender’s identity matches the service you use. A familiar-looking name or short code is not proof that the message is genuine. An unexpected prize, urgent payment demand, account-warning link, or request for personal information should be treated as suspicious.

2. Reply with a clear opt-out phrase to a legitimate automated alert
For an automated message that appears to come from a recognized service, send a short, unambiguous opt-out. FCC guidance lists STOP, QUIT, END, REVOKE, OPT OUT, CANCEL, and UNSUBSCRIBE as examples of reasonable language.

The FCC says there are no magic words that consumers must say. You may respond in the language in which the message was received. Keep the reply limited to the opt-out request; never add account numbers, passwords, payment details, or other information.
3. Treat links and requests for information as a separate safety issue
The FTC advises consumers not to click a link or provide personal or financial information in an unexpected text. If the message may be legitimate, contact the company through a website or phone number you already know is real. For example, enter the address yourself or find the number on a genuine statement; do not copy it from the text.
Replying to a suspicious message can confirm that your number is active. When you cannot independently verify the sender, skip the reply and use your phone’s report and blocking tools instead.

4. Report texts that continue or appear to be spam
Forward an unwanted text to 7726, which spells SPAM. Your wireless provider can use that report to investigate and may offer additional blocking tools. You can also use your messaging app’s Report junk or Report spam command and block the conversation or sender.
For suspected fraud, submit a report at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Reporting does not guarantee that a particular campaign will stop immediately, but it creates a record and gives the relevant provider or agency information about the message.
Email and text alerts are not governed identically
It is easy to assume that an email rule applies to an SMS alert. The FTC distinguishes phone-to-phone SMS from commercial email, and the material cited here does not establish a CAN-SPAM deadline for texts. Use the comparison below when deciding what to do.

What to do when messages keep arriving
Check whether the sender actually changed
Horoscope campaigns may use several sending addresses, domains, short codes, or vendors. Compare the address or number on the new message with the one you opted out from. A successful opt-out from one list does not necessarily remove you from a separate list operated by another service. Use a safe, verified opt-out route for each legitimate sender, and block the addresses or numbers that continue.

Look at the content rather than the subject line. A forecast promotion is marketing; a message about an account change, transaction, or security event may be a relationship message. Marketing opt-out controls are not designed to suppress every necessary account communication. If a service keeps sending promotional material after your request, preserve the messages and report them to your provider.

Allow for the applicable email period, but do not apply it to texts
For commercial email, the FTC’s stated honor period is 10 business days. During that period, keep the confirmation and note the dates. No equivalent period is established by the cited sources for horoscope texts, so do not tell yourself that a text campaign has a guaranteed 10-business-day grace period. Use carrier and device controls immediately when texts are unwanted or unsafe.
Escalate through your provider’s controls
When unwanted email persists, mark each new copy as spam or junk and block the sender or domain. When unwanted texts persist, report the conversation in the messaging app, forward copies to 7726, and enable your phone’s blocking or unknown-sender filtering options. Wireless providers may have separate anti-spam tools; consult the instructions for your carrier rather than using a link in the message.
Protect your accounts if you clicked or replied
If you entered a password on a page reached from a suspicious message, change that password through the service’s known website and enable stronger sign-in protection where available. If you supplied financial information, contact the relevant financial institution using a trusted number. If you only reported, blocked, or deleted the message without opening links or sharing data, no additional account action is established by the guidance; continue monitoring for similar messages.
A safe workflow for each situation
Recognized marketing email
- Open the message and inspect the sender address.
- Use its clearly labeled unsubscribe or preference link.
- Select the option that stops all marketing from that sender if that is your goal.
- Save the confirmation and date.
- Mark later copies as spam or junk if they continue.
Recognized automated text
- Confirm that you expected the alert and recognize the service.
- Reply with STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, or another clear opt-out phrase.
- Do not include sensitive information or follow an unrelated link.
- Block or report the sender if messages continue.
Unexpected or suspicious email or text
- Do not click links, download attachments, call numbers in the message, or provide personal or financial details.
- Verify the supposed organization through a website or phone number you already trust.
- Report the email as spam or junk, or report the text in your messaging app.
- Forward unwanted texts to 7726 and report suspected fraud at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
- Block the sender and delete the message after reporting.
Limits of this guidance
The rules and procedures above come from U.S. federal materials and are general guidance, not a determination about any particular horoscope sender, campaign, or legal dispute. They do not establish requirements for other countries. A regulator, carrier, email provider, or service may offer additional controls, and those controls can vary by account, device, and region.
