In How to Fish, unlock the grill on Island 3 by delivering the grill master a Blue Shark summoned with the $280 Standard Boss Lure. To increase an item’s sale value, hold it over the flame, press F to inspect the multiplier, and take it off at 1.5x. Cook items you plan to sell; keep cooked fish if you need food and healing.
Unlock the grill on Island 3
- Reach Island 3 and speak to the grill master beside the unlit grill.
- Buy the Standard Boss Lure for $280. The guides distinguish it from the cheaper Standard Lure, which does not summon the Blue Shark.
- Equip the boss lure and cast to summon the Blue Shark. Defeat it, then carry it to the grill master.
- Hand over the shark to light the grill and unlock the Grillmaster achievement.
One guide recommends moving sideways to evade the shark and attacking from a safe distance. It also says a maxed Uzi is sufficient, but that is guide advice, not an established equipment requirement. These steps and prices come from third-party guides, not independent testing.
Cook items to raise their sale value
- Hold an item over the grill flame.
- Press F to inspect the live Value and multiplier readout.
- Remove the item when the multiplier reaches 1.5x.
The guides report that cooking raises an item’s value from 1x up to a 1.5x ceiling—50% above its raw value. There is no reported flipping or cooking minigame. If an item stays over the flame until it turns solid black, its sale value can drop to zero and it becomes nearly useless as food.
What cooking does—and does not do
Cooking is reported to work on fish, weapons, and other sellable items. It raises sale value, not weapon combat stats, so only cook gear you intend to sell. A guide also warns that cooking a decorated weapon may alter its visible cosmetics; this is a secondary-source report.

Choose what to cook and what to keep
- For cash: Cook sellable catches and other items to 1.5x before selling.
- For healing and hunger: Keep some cooked fish if you need supplies for a boss fight. Guides say cooked fish restore more health and hunger than raw fish.
- For weapons or gear: Cook them only if you plan to sell them; cooking is not a combat upgrade.
- If something burns: Guides say a burned catch has zero sale value and restores very little health or hunger. Burning is described as an achievement task, not a way to earn money.
Pick a money loop for your island
Game Playbook’s progression advice is labeled as reviewed for Patch 1.0.11 on September 3, 2026. It outlines different routes by island, but does not provide comparable earnings-per-hour measurements, so it does not establish one universally fastest method.
Island 3: finish quests, then sell remaining catches
Prioritize Island 3 quest fish before selling the catches you do not need. The grill lets you cook sellable items to the reported 1.5x value ceiling.

Island 4: repeat regular catches with the Professional Lure
The guide describes regular Island 4 fish caught with the $50 Professional Lure as a repeatable money route. It recommends treating boss catches as progression targets or planned high-value sales rather than routine farming.
Island 5: use lava to cook without grill timing
At Island 5, lava is described as cooking items to the same 1.5x result without the grill’s timing risk. This is a later-game option, not an alternative available before reaching that island.

Island 3 provides an accessible grill route, Island 4 offers a repeatable regular-catch loop, and Island 5 removes the grill’s timing step through lava.
