To unlock Nen in Beyond, complete all four stages of the Hunter Exam, earn your Hunter’s License, and then finish Rohan’s meditation quest. After the exam, use the quest tracker to find Rohan in the Nen Cave on Wayfarer Island, meditate with a Meditation Mat, complete the keyboard-letter event, and return to him.
The walkthrough behind these steps was published by Gordan Perisic at Destructoid on October 8, 2026. Because Beyond is described as an early-access Roblox RPG and the walkthrough is not a developer changelog, quest details and key mappings may change. If your screen differs, rely on the active in-game quest tracker and current game announcements.
How do I pass the Hunter Exam in Beyond?
The exam has four stages: a timed Stamina Race, a trap-and-fight challenge in Trick Tower, a PvP survival round on Zevil Island, and a final one-on-one tournament match. The walkthrough says you must finish the race within its time limit—not come in first—and complete the later rounds to earn the Hunter’s License. Winning the final match completes the exam and enables the Nen activation quest.

It helps to separate the exam goal from the later Nen goal. The exam is the prerequisite: finish its stages and win the final tournament match to earn the license. The Nen quest comes afterward and requires its own interaction sequence with Rohan and the Meditation Mat. Clearing a race or reaching the last stage does not, by itself, complete the Nen unlock.

Stage 1: Finish the Stamina Race
Enter the Hunter Exam lobby from the Main Menu. The first challenge is a timed obstacle course. The requirement described in the walkthrough is to finish before time runs out, so prioritize a steady route and avoiding delays rather than taking unnecessary risks to beat other players. The source does not give a specific time limit, route map, or placement requirement; watch the timer and the course itself rather than assuming you need to place first.

A practical way to use that warning is to keep your attention on the marked hazard as you approach, make room to evade it, and resume your route once it is safe. The guide does not specify an exact number of seconds between warning and impact, so do not rely on a fixed timing count.
The guide describes the in-game skateboard as a speed aid, while slide-jumping is an alternative for retaining momentum without one. It provides no controlled timing comparison, so neither option can be called definitively faster based on the walkthrough. Choose the movement approach you can control around the hazards; a speed aid is useful only if it helps you finish the course without losing time to mistakes.

The guide also mentions an auto-run stamina behavior as a bug. Since a bug can be patched or behave differently between versions, do not build your race plan around it. Stage 2: Navigate Trick Tower and win the NPC fight
Trick Tower combines a labyrinth with traps and a mini-boss or NPC fight. Treat these as two separate problems: first cross the trap sections without being caught, then use the fight to apply the defensive timing you will need again in PvP. The walkthrough does not name a required route through the entire labyrinth, so respond to the hazards in front of you rather than expecting a single universal path.

For the side-wall traps, the walkthrough recommends stepping onto the highlighted pressure plate to trigger the trap, then backing away. Wait for the trap to reset before crossing. In other words, the plate is something to activate from a position where you can retreat, not a signal to dash forward immediately. Allow the hazard to finish its cycle before using the crossing. The source does not specify the reset duration, so watch the trap rather than counting a set number of seconds.
Wall-jumping is also suggested where it is useful, but the guide does not identify a single jump route that works for every obstacle. Use it as a situational movement option, not as a guaranteed bypass for all the traps. If the highlighted plate and trap are part of the obstacle, follow the trigger-and-retreat approach instead of assuming a jump will avoid the mechanic.
During the NPC fight, practice blocks, parries, and dodges instead of relying only on attacks. The walkthrough suggests M1 and uppercut combos alongside skills. Think of these as offense to use when you have an opening, while defensive actions help you respond when the NPC is attacking. The guide does not prescribe a fixed combo sequence or say that one skill is required, so use the actions available to your character rather than looking for a specific build.
When the opponent uses the fire-tornado attack, the walkthrough recommends dodging backward. The useful lesson is to watch the attack and respond to it; spending every opening attacking can leave you without a defensive response when a telegraphed move begins. If you are having trouble, focus on recognizing that move and making space with the backward dodge, then return to attacking when the opportunity is clear. The source does not provide damage values, attack range, or a precise dodge window.

Stage 3: Survive Zevil Island with two badges
Zevil Island is the exam’s PvP survival round. According to the walkthrough, you need to finish with two badges: keep your own badge and obtain another by gripping a player. The objective is therefore not simply to win every fight or to eliminate everyone. Secure the additional badge, protect the one you already have, and stay alive until the timer ends.
Once you hold both, shift your priority to staying alive until the timer ends. Pursuing more fights after meeting the badge requirement adds risk without helping with that stated objective. The walkthrough does not provide a guaranteed hiding spot, a particular route, or a way to avoid all opponents, so treat survival as a decision-making priority rather than a promise that one tactic will keep you safe.
If you still need the second badge, the guide recommends isolating a fight when your ping and parry timing are favorable. It also suggests coordinating with friends. In practice, these recommendations mean you should avoid committing to a fight when connection delay is making your defensive timing unreliable, and use coordination to reduce uncertainty where possible. The guide does not specify a guaranteed way to obtain a badge or guarantee that a coordinated approach will prevent other players from interfering.

Server choice matters as a recommendation because this round involves PvP and the walkthrough specifically advises choosing a server with good ping. No exact ping cutoff is given. Likewise, voice coordination is a suggestion, not a requirement: if you are playing alone, the stated objective remains the same—hold your badge, acquire one from another player, and survive to the end of the round.

Stage 4: Win the final tournament match
The final stage is a one-on-one match against another player in the lobby. Winning awards the Hunter’s License and completes the exam, according to the walkthrough. The guide notes that a friend may be your opponent, so do not assume that entering with a friend means you will be placed on the same side or avoid fighting them.
This is the last exam requirement described before the Nen quest. If you reach the tournament but do not win, the walkthrough does not say that you receive the Hunter’s License; its stated progression is that winning awards it. After the match, check your quest tracker for “Activate Nen” before starting the next steps. The source does not describe a separate license purchase or an alternative route around the final match.
How do I activate Nen after the exam?
Once you have the Hunter’s License, follow the active “Activate Nen” quest. The walkthrough says the Port Town Librarian directs you toward Rohan. The sequence requires a conversation with Rohan, a Meditation Mat, a keyboard-letter quick-time event, and a return visit to Rohan. Keep the quest tracker open as a guide through the sequence; that is especially useful if a direction or interface prompt has changed since the walkthrough was published.
- Open the quest tracker. Press P and select or follow “Activate Nen.” Use the tracker’s directions rather than relying on memory if your interface differs from the walkthrough. If the quest is not listed, confirm that you completed the exam and won the final match before assuming that a later step is broken.
- Get directions to Rohan. Speak with the Port Town Librarian, who the guide says points you toward him. The librarian is a lead to the destination; Rohan is the NPC you need for the Nen sequence.
- Travel to the Nen Cave. Go to the cave on Wayfarer Island and speak with Rohan. The guide places Rohan there. If you are unsure where to go next, consult the active tracker and the librarian’s direction rather than searching unrelated locations.
- Obtain a Meditation Mat if needed. The walkthrough says to buy one from a Port Town merchant if you do not already have one. It does not give a price, so check the merchant’s current listing for the in-game cost. If you own one already, the walkthrough does not say that you need to purchase a second mat.
- Place the mat and meditate. Put the Meditation Mat down, approach it, and press T to begin meditating, as described in the guide. The order matters: the described interaction is with a placed mat, not merely carrying one in your inventory.
- Complete the keyboard-letter event. Follow the letters shown during the quick-time event. The walkthrough says completing it grants Nen experience. It does not specify a fixed letter sequence or a number of prompts, so follow the event displayed in your game rather than expecting a memorized code.
- Return to Rohan. Speak with him again to complete the unlock sequence and receive a randomly rolled Nen ability. The return conversation is part of the described progression; meditating alone is not the final step.
The walkthrough does not identify a level requirement, a fee for the exam, an exact Meditation Mat price, or a required amount of Nen experience to earn during the event. It does state that the mat can be bought from a Port Town merchant if you lack one and that the keyboard event gives Nen experience. For any cost or prompt that changes, use the amount and instructions currently shown in the game.
What becomes available when Nen unlocks?
The walkthrough says unlocking Nen grants a randomly rolled Nen ability and access to Nen techniques, Nen charge, and the Nen skill tree. It lists E for techniques, G for Nen charge, and M for the skill tree. These key mappings are version-sensitive; if a listed key does not work, check the current in-game controls rather than assuming the quest failed.
The ability is described as randomly rolled at unlock. The source does not document a reroll option, a way to select a particular ability, or the odds of receiving any specific result. Do not treat the first ability as a choice you can control based on the steps in this guide. The walkthrough also does not list the possible abilities or explain how to spend points in the skill tree, so this guide can confirm that the features become accessible but cannot give a supported build recommendation.

Keep the activation steps and the new controls distinct: the keyboard-letter event is part of meditating to gain Nen experience, while the listed E, G, and M keys are controls the walkthrough associates with the unlocked Nen systems. If those keys have changed in your version, check the controls menu or the prompts in the game. A mismatch in one mapping does not, by itself, show that the Nen unlock failed.
Where do I find Rohan and the Meditation Mat?
