To open Genus Insight in Aion 2, complete the faction-specific main-story quest that unlocks the Pets menu: All Geared Up for Elyos or Gathering Essentials for Asmodians. Then open Pets from the game menu and select Genus Insight. To unlock an individual genus board, you must also own at least one mount from that genus. The menu and the boards have separate unlock conditions.
Unlock the Genus Insight screen
The first gate is the Pets menu, which becomes available after a main-story quest. Current independent game guides identify different quests for the two factions:
- Elyos: complete All Geared Up.
- Asmodian: complete Gathering Essentials.
After completing the relevant quest, open the game menu, choose Pets, and select the Genus Insight tab. If the tab is not visible immediately after the quest, close and reopen the menu and check that you are on the character that completed the story step. The quest names and menu path are reported by current game guides; they are not established here as identical across every region or version.
What this first unlock does—and does not do
Completing the faction quest opens the Pets interface and makes the Genus Insight screen accessible. It does not automatically open all five genus boards. A player can therefore reach the tab and still see some boards unavailable. That is normal and reflects a second requirement rather than a failed quest unlock.

Unlock a particular genus board
To open a board, own at least one mount belonging to that genus. The board-unlock condition is tied to genus ownership, not simply to reaching the Pets menu. If you are checking why one board is locked, identify the genus of the mounts you own and compare it with the board you selected.
The game has five separate boards:
- Cogni
- Fera
- Natura
- Varian
- Special
Each board progresses separately. Owning a mount in one category does not, by itself, open the other four. Pet-collection references also report that obtaining a new pet can grant experience to that pet’s genus board, so adding a mount can both satisfy the access requirement and contribute to that board’s progression.
A reliable unlock sequence
- Continue the main story until the faction quest is complete.
- Open the game menu and enter Pets.
- Select Genus Insight to confirm that the system is available.
- Check which genus contains a mount you own.
- Open that genus board and review its current level and available lines.
- Acquire a mount from another genus when you want to begin that board as well.
This sequence separates the account or character interface gate from the individual board gate. It also prevents a common mistake: repeating the story quest or changing Pet Insight levels when the missing requirement is simply ownership of a mount from the relevant genus.
How board progression and analysis work
Genus Insight is a genus-level board with rerollable stat lines. It is different from Pet Insight, which is progression for an individual pet. Current reference pages describe nine lines per board. Board levels 1 through 9 open the lines one at a time; level 10 improves roll quality rather than adding a tenth line. In other words, reaching level 10 changes the quality of future outcomes, but the board still has nine lines to manage.
Ways to gain board EXP
Current guides report three related ways that pet activity feeds this system: leveling up Pet Insight, performing Genus Insight analysis, and obtaining a new pet that belongs to the genus. Pet Insight progression can therefore help the related genus board while advancing the individual pet. Analysis is not only a way to replace stat lines; it also contributes to the board’s progression according to the cited mechanics references.
Because each genus has its own board, focus activity on the genus you actually intend to develop. Raising a pet or adding a mount in one genus should not be assumed to level every board. The references describe separate progression, so inspect the board display after an action if you need to confirm where the experience went.
Pet Insight is a separate progression track
Pet Insight should not be confused with Genus Insight. Pet Insight belongs to an individual pet, while Genus Insight belongs to the genus board shared by the pets or mounts in that category. A Pet Insight level-up can provide genus-board EXP, but it does not replace the mount-ownership requirement for opening a board.

According to Corpus’s 2026 mechanic reference, Pet Insight has a global cap of level 3. After first unlocking a pet, the guide reports that level 2 requires 25 additional souls, and level 3 requires another 75 souls. Those figures describe the progression after the pet has been unlocked. They are not the total cost of acquiring a pet, and they are not the Soul Crystals used for Genus Insight analysis.
Three resources and terms to keep straight
- Pets or mounts: collection items. Owning a mount from a genus opens that genus board.
- Pet Insight souls: the progression resource described for raising an individual pet to levels 2 and 3.
- Soul Crystals and Kina: the resources spent on Genus Insight analysis.
Keeping these terms separate helps diagnose a blocked board or an unexpected cost. Spending souls on Pet Insight will not be the same action as paying for a board analysis, and having analysis currency does not prove that a board has been unlocked.
Analyze a board and understand the cost
Analysis rerolls the available lines and consumes both Soul Crystals and Kina. Corpus’s 2026 reference gives the basic analysis cost as 4 Soul Crystals and 1,000 Kina. This is the starting price when no lines are locked. Use the analysis control only after checking which lines are currently selected, because locking even one result changes the price of later attempts.

The eight-lock figure shows how sharply the expense can rise. It is not a promise that every intermediate lock count follows a particular formula, so use the price displayed by your client as the authority for the next click. The reported values are game-mechanic figures from current reference pages, not results of independent testing.

What analysis changes
An analysis rerolls the available, unlocked lines. A locked line is preserved for the next analysis, while the remaining lines are eligible to change. After the analysis completes, you can decide whether the new combination is worth keeping and whether another line should be locked. This creates a direct trade-off: preserving a desirable result reduces the number of lines that can change, but increases the price of subsequent analyses.
Before confirming, check three things:
- Which lines are already locked.
- The exact Soul Crystal and Kina price shown for the next analysis.
- Whether the line you are about to preserve is valuable enough to justify a higher future cost.
When to lock a line
Two current independent guides advise against locking ordinary results before the board reaches level 10. Their reasoning is that analysis itself contributes to board progression, line locks make each later analysis more expensive, and better grades become available as the board advances. If a result is merely acceptable rather than a deliberate target, leaving it unlocked lets you continue advancing the board without committing to the higher lock price.
This is current guide advice, not a universal rule. A player may still choose to lock an unusually useful line early when replacing it would undermine a build or when the displayed result is worth the resource cost. The important point is to make that choice deliberately. Do not lock every line automatically just because it looks better than the previous roll.

Once a board reaches level 10, one current reference suggests considering line 4 first for offensive effects. Treat that as a starting point for evaluation, not as a best-in-slot instruction. The useful line depends on the genus, your character’s build, the content you play, the other eight lines, and the Soul Crystal and Kina cost of preserving it. Defensive, utility, or non-damage builds may value a different line or a different combination entirely.

When a level-10 board produces a promising line, compare it against four factors:
- Genus: the board’s available effects and your reason for developing that genus.
- Build: whether the effect supports your character’s actual skills and role.
- Content focus: whether you prioritize the activities for which the line matters.
- Lock cost: whether the gain justifies the next analysis price and the resources you have available.
There is no separate consumer product or accessory needed to make this decision. Genus, build, content focus, desired stat line, and lock cost are the meaningful comparison axes for post-unlock planning.
What to check if the tab or board is still unavailable
- The Genus Insight tab is missing: confirm that you completed All Geared Up as Elyos or Gathering Essentials as Asmodian. Reopen the Pets menu after the story step.
- The tab opens but a genus board does not: check whether you own a mount in that genus. The five boards unlock individually rather than all at once.
- You own a pet but cannot identify its board: verify the pet’s genus in the Pets interface, then compare it with Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian, or Special.
- You expect a Pet Insight change to open a board: Pet Insight levels contribute to progression, but owning a mount from the relevant genus is the reported board-access condition.
- You expected a tenth line at level 10: level 10 improves roll quality; it does not add another line. The board remains a nine-line board.
- Your analysis price is higher than 4 Soul Crystals and 1,000 Kina: inspect the lock state. Preserved lines raise later analysis costs, and eight locked lines are reported at up to 396 Soul Crystals and 99,000 Kina.
- Your costs or progression differ from the figures here: these numbers come from current reference pages and can change with updates or regional implementation. Check the values shown in your game before committing resources.
- Another character appears to have different progress: review the server-sharing note below and verify the behavior on your own server.
Character sharing and regional differences
NCsoft’s January 7, 2026 roadmap announcement said that Genus Insight and pet ownership were changing from per-character to server-wide sharing. Under the announced behavior, the highest Genus Insight value among characters on the same server is used, and pet levels are aggregated across those characters.
This means a player may not need to repeat every pet-development step on each character if the announced sharing behavior is active in that region. It also means that comparing two characters on the same server can produce confusing results if one has the higher board value or if their pet levels have been combined. Check the Pets and Genus Insight displays directly rather than assuming that an older per-character rule still applies.

The announcement establishes the change, but the cited references do not settle every region’s current implementation. If you are relying on another character’s progress, verify the behavior on your server in-game before spending Soul Crystals, buying or collecting mounts for a specific board, or planning a level-up route around shared progress.
Planning your first board
For a new player, the least wasteful order is to unlock the interface, open a board through mount ownership, and let early progression build the board before committing to expensive locks. First confirm the board’s genus and the lines currently available. Then use Pet Insight level-ups, new pet acquisition, and analysis as the references describe, while watching the board level and the next analysis price.

At levels 1 through 9, the practical milestone is the gradual opening of all nine lines. Do not interpret an incomplete set of lines as a bug; the board is designed to reveal them one at a time. At level 10, reassess your strategy because roll quality improves. That is the point at which the cited guide advice becomes more relevant: evaluate a line such as line 4 for offensive effects, but keep the decision tied to your build and the cost shown in the client.
If you are developing multiple boards, keep a simple checklist of which genus has a mount, which board level has been reached, and which lines are locked. Because the boards progress separately and lock costs are board-specific decisions, this avoids spending resources on the wrong genus or assuming that progress on Cogni has advanced Fera, Natura, Varian, or Special.

The quest labels and menu route above are reported by current independent game guides. The progression and analysis figures are attributed to Corpus and Wikily.gg as noted; the server-sharing change is based on NCsoft’s January 7, 2026 roadmap announcement. NCsoft Development Producer Namjoon Kim said in that announcement that AION 2 had surpassed KRW 100 billion in revenue within a month and a half; that statement is company context and does not establish the Genus Insight mechanics.
These references do not establish that every region has the same current implementation, and a current official global help page confirming every quest label and regional detail was not located. Use the in-game labels, board status, sharing behavior, and displayed costs on your server as the final check.
