To unlock F-Zero GX’s pilots, parts, cups, and tracks, progress through Grand Prix and Story Mode, then check the F-ZERO Shop: some rewards require a separate purchase with tickets. “Every machine” can mean fixed pilot-and-craft entries or every custom build, so this guide separates those goals. The exact chapter-by-chapter requirements below come from community unlock guides rather than a complete Nintendo checklist; confirm them in your game as you play.
What “every machine” means in F-Zero GX
There are two different completion goals:
- Unlocking pilots and their associated craft: progress through cups and Story Mode challenges to open character- or machine-related rewards.
- Building with every custom part: earn parts, then use them in the machine customization system. A part is not itself a separate complete machine.
Nintendo described F-Zero GX as allowing craft customization with parts earned through race victories. It also gave a figure of 8,000 possible vehicle combinations when parts from the arcade game F-Zero AC are included; that is a count of combinations, not 8,000 separately unlockable machine entries. How the three unlock systems work
Grand Prix unlocks cups and progression rewards
Win cups at the required difficulty to open further Grand Prix content and some parts. Community unlock lists identify cup placement and difficulty as important conditions, so simply completing a cup may not be enough.

Story Mode rewards can depend on both the chapter and difficulty. The community lists associate some machine-part sets with Hard clears and certain AX pilots with Very Hard chapter clears. Clearing the story once does not necessarily earn all of these items.

The F-ZERO Shop turns tickets into items
The instruction booklet says the shop sells machine parts and other items for F-ZERO Tickets earned in Grand Prix, Time Attack, and Story modes. If a reward appears in the shop, meeting its unlock condition only makes it available: spend tickets to obtain it. See the F-Zero GX instruction booklet for the modes and ticket system.
Grand Prix cup and difficulty milestones
The following cup requirements are reported by the community unlock list and walkthrough. Because Nintendo’s published materials do not provide a complete itemized checklist, treat these as guide-sourced routes and verify the game’s own progression prompts.

Story Mode rewards: pilots and parts
Use the community chapter tables as a checklist rather than assuming one playthrough unlocks everything. They assign rewards to particular chapter clears and difficulty levels.

For a specific pilot or part, consult the GameFAQs F-Zero GX guides and unlockables and match the named reward to its chapter or cup requirement. These are community-contributed tables, not a publisher-verified master list; the individual reward names and conditions can be checked against the game’s unlock notifications and shop.

Do you need to play F-Zero AX?
No arcade cabinet is presented as mandatory for the standard GX progression routes described by these guides. Community walkthroughs also describe a historical alternative: playing F-Zero AX and using a GameCube memory card to transfer some pilots, tracks, or parts into GX. Nintendo confirms the historical GX/AC connection, but availability of a working AX cabinet depends on location and cannot be assumed. For most players, the practical plan is to pursue the GX cup and Story Mode challenges.

A practical checklist for unlocking as much as possible
- Win cups at the required difficulty. Start with Ruby, Emerald, and Sapphire on Standard or Expert to pursue Diamond Cup, then work through the reported Expert requirements for Master Class.
- Clear Story Mode chapters on Hard. Check chapter-specific reward lists and replay chapters when you are targeting a particular part or the full set.
- Replay chapters on Very Hard for AX pilots. The community list assigns individual pilots to particular chapter clears, so track each target rather than stopping after one Very Hard clear.
- Earn tickets across modes. Grand Prix, Time Attack, and Story Mode can award F-ZERO Tickets, which the shop uses for parts and items.
- Check the F-ZERO Shop after milestones. Buy any newly available shop-listed rewards with tickets; unlocking availability and purchasing the item are separate steps.
- Keep parts and complete craft separate in your checklist. Parts expand customization options; Nintendo’s 8,000-combination figure includes additional F-Zero AC parts and does not mean GX has 8,000 fixed machines to unlock.
