There is no single, permanently reliable checklist for every Vampire Survivors character because the roster and unlock text change with game updates and downloadable content. Use the installed game’s Unlocks menu for ordinary characters and its Secrets menu for hidden characters, then follow the prerequisite chain shown there. The examples below explain the recurring unlock systems and document representative base-game and DLC routes.
Many unlocks only satisfy a condition; they do not automatically make the character playable. A separate gold purchase is commonly required. Cumulative counters, single-run targets, coffins, weapon evolutions, relics, boss encounters and secret inputs all appear in the game, while DLC characters add expansion-specific stages, gates, enemies and weapons.

Start with the game’s own unlock menus
Before following any online list, open the character-related menus in your installed build. Ordinary progression is represented in Unlocks; secret characters are represented in Secrets. These menus are tied to your version, owned expansions and completed prerequisites, so they are the final authority when an older guide conflicts with the text on screen.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware match- Open Unlocks and locate the character or the missing prerequisite. The requirement may be a counter, a weapon level, an evolved weapon, a relic, a coffin, a stage event or a boss.
- Check the content scope. A route may belong to the base game or to a particular expansion. DLC paths can depend on an expansion stage, enemy, gate, coffin, weapon or shop.
- Trace prerequisites in order. A boss can open a gate, the gate can reveal an item, and that item can be needed for a weapon evolution that unlocks another character.
- Check whether the requirement is cumulative or run-specific. Some counters carry across runs; others require one run to reach a time, gold or enemy target.
- Return to the character screen after completion. If the character is marked as unlocked but cannot be selected, look for a gold purchase prompt.
- Use Secrets for hidden characters. Secret routes can require a spell, a timed input, a particular enemy or a character-specific ritual rather than a normal achievement.
If an online procedure gives a different key sequence, item name or stage route, verify the control layout and exact wording in your own Secrets or Unlocks menu before treating it as current.

- Play as an immortal Successor - You are a Successor, an immortal warrior empowered by the gods Lu, Ashuran, and Harnia. When you die, you revive with your gear, runes, and unlocks intact and head back out from Cliffshire to push further into corrupted zones. Choose your Successor - You'll start as the Spellblade and unlock additional Successors as you progress. Each has its own skill tree, weapons, and playstyle
- Playable Classes - Spellblade-Element-focused hybrid with close and mid-range attacks built around fire, frost, and lightning. Berserker - Heavy melee bruiser that trades its own HP and positioning for huge damage and armor. Hunter - Mobile ranged fighter using thrown weapons, poison, and beast abilities to apply damage over time and control space.
- 2D Roguelite Hack-and-Slash Combat - Combat revolves around precise dodges, reading telegraphed attacks, and committing to aggressive combos. Areas are multi-layered 2D stages that reshuffle enemy layouts, hazards, and loot each run. When you fall, you lose gold and temporary bonuses, but your gear and runes stay with you and form the base of your next attempt.
- Loot, Runes, and Artifacts - Hunt Elites and Bosses to claim Rune Stones, then craft them into Legendary and Mythic equipment. Runes and class skill trees interact to define your build, while artifacts you pick up mid-run stack into powerful synergies.

How Vampire Survivors unlock conditions are structured
Cumulative account progress
A cumulative requirement counts progress over multiple runs. Total health recovered and lifetime enemy defeats are examples. You can end a run, start another and continue building the same counter; the game records the total rather than requiring one uninterrupted attempt.
Single-run targets
A single-run target must be met before that run ends. Surviving for a specified time with Curse and earning a specified amount of gold in one run are different from lifetime counters. Starting a new run does not preserve partial progress toward a single-run target.
Item levels and evolutions
Some characters are tied to a weapon reaching a level, while others require a completed evolution. An evolution normally means obtaining the required weapon and passive items, meeting the evolution chest condition and collecting the evolved result. The unlock text is the authority for the exact combination in your version.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Map objects and stage events
Coffins and gates are map-specific. A coffin may be guarded or hidden in a stage, and a gate may remain closed until a named boss or event has been cleared. These routes are not interchangeable with a generic survival run: select the stage named by the requirement and follow its map objective.
Secret inputs and rituals
Secrets deliberately use less direct instructions. They can involve typing a spell, defeating a special enemy and immediately pressing an input, or performing a timed sequence in menus and during a run. Because these procedures are especially sensitive to platform controls and updates, use the in-game hint and confirm the prerequisite character before attempting them.
The final gold purchase
Many standard characters become available for purchase only after their condition is complete. Gold is the in-game currency used for that final step. If the requirement is satisfied but the character remains locked, inspect the character selection screen for the purchase action instead of repeating the challenge.
Representative base-game character unlocks
The following routes are documented examples of the base-game progression families. They are not a guaranteed complete roster, and names or requirements can change in a later build.
| Character | Requirement | Run scope | Gold step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lama Ladonna | Survive at least 20 minutes with Curse above its base value at the end of the run | One run | Purchase with in-game gold after the condition |
| Poe Ratcho | Raise Garlic to level 7 | Weapon-level target; the condition is not a lifetime counter | Purchase with in-game gold |
| Suor Clerici | Recover 1,000 HP cumulatively | Across multiple runs | Purchase with in-game gold |
| Dommario | Earn more than 5,000 gold in a single run | One run | Purchase with in-game gold |
| Krochi Freetto | Defeat 100,000 enemies cumulatively | Across multiple runs | Purchase with in-game gold |
| Pugnala Provola | Find and open her coffin in Mad Forest | Stage-specific coffin | The coffin interaction is the documented unlock action |
| Iguana Gallo Valletto | Obtain Infinite Corridor | Weapon-evolution requirement | Purchase with in-game gold |
| Divano Thelma | Obtain Crimson Shroud | Weapon-evolution requirement | Purchase with in-game gold |
| Queen Sigma | Complete every entry in the 1.0 Collection | Collection completion; the cited condition excludes DLC items | The documented condition is Collection completion |
Lama Ladonna: survive with Curse
Choose a run in which your final Curse value is above its base value and survive for at least 20 minutes. The condition can be met through Curse sources other than the permanent Curse PowerUp, so the relevant test is the Curse value at the end of that run. Once the requirement registers, buy Lama Ladonna with gold.

Poe Ratcho: reach Garlic level 7
Use Garlic as a weapon and raise it to level 7. This is an item-level requirement, not a lifetime enemy or damage counter. After the unlock notification appears, the character still needs the listed gold purchase.
Suor Clerici: recover 1,000 HP
Healing is tracked cumulatively across runs. Recovering part of the total, ending the run and healing again later continues the same account-level progress. When the counter reaches 1,000 HP, complete the gold purchase to select Suor Clerici.
Dommario: earn more than 5,000 gold in one run
The threshold is strictly more than 5,000 gold and must be reached in a single run. A lifetime bank balance is not a substitute for the run total. Plan a gold-focused build, finish the run after crossing the threshold and then purchase Dommario.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsKrochi Freetto: defeat 100,000 enemies
This is a cumulative defeat count. Normal play across several runs can contribute to it; you do not need to defeat all 100,000 enemies at once. Check the Unlocks counter to confirm that the total has registered, then buy Krochi with gold.
Pugnala Provola: open the Mad Forest coffin
Select Mad Forest and locate Pugnala’s coffin. Opening the coffin is the stage action that triggers the documented unlock. If the coffin is not available, check whether you selected the correct stage and whether an earlier map prerequisite is still shown in Unlocks.
Infinite Corridor and Crimson Shroud routes
Iguana Gallo Valletto is tied to obtaining Infinite Corridor, while Divano Thelma is tied to obtaining Crimson Shroud. These are evolution-based paths rather than simple weapon-level targets. Build the required evolution, collect the evolved weapon and then complete the corresponding gold purchase shown for the character.
Queen Sigma: complete the 1.0 Collection
Queen Sigma’s documented requirement is completion of every entry in the 1.0 Collection. The cited condition explicitly excludes DLC items, so adding expansion weapons to the Collection is not part of that requirement. Because Collection contents can change with updates, use the Collection screen in your build to identify any remaining base-game entry.
Secret characters: use the hint, then verify the controls
Secret characters do not reliably follow the normal condition-then-purchase pattern. Their procedures can be hidden behind the Secrets menu and may require a precise order or a short timing window.

Exdash
Exdash is documented as an unlock-by-spell route: enter the specified unlock code in the appropriate game context. Do not rely on a copied keyboard sequence without checking your platform’s controls and the current Secrets hint.
Toastie
Toastie’s documented route combines a prerequisite involving Exdash, defeating a particular special enemy and pressing a timed input immediately afterward. Missing the timing window means the attempt does not count, so watch for the enemy and keep the required input ready.
Smith IV
Smith IV uses a timed sequence that moves between menu actions and run inputs. It is both prerequisite- and control-sensitive. Read the Secrets entry first, confirm that the required prior character is available, and follow the sequence exactly as written for your version.

These examples explain the pattern without reproducing potentially obsolete key strings. A patch can change a secret code, the required menu location or the platform-specific button, while the Secrets menu updates with the installed build.
DLC characters: identify the expansion before starting
DLC characters are unlocked inside the systems introduced by their expansion. The relevant path may require entering an expansion stage, finding a coffin, opening a gate, evolving a DLC weapon, defeating a named enemy or reaching a large defeat threshold with a particular character. Owning the expansion is necessary, and a base-game run cannot satisfy an expansion-only stage or item requirement.
- Legacy of the Moonspell: check its dedicated stage, enemies, coffins and weapons in Unlocks.
- Tides of the Foscari: expect stage-specific objectives and weapon or evolution prerequisites from that expansion.
- Emergency Meeting: follow the expansion’s named locations, tasks and character-specific conditions.
- Operation Guns: use the expansion stage and its weapon or enemy requirements rather than a base-game substitute.
- Ode to Castlevania: many routes use named gates, coffins, characters, bosses, relics and weapon evolutions.
Expansion guides can be accurate for the patch they describe but still become stale. The Castlevania guide dated 17 December 2024, for example, described 20 characters at that time; it should be treated as a dated snapshot rather than a guarantee for a later build.

Christopher Belmont
Evolve Alucard’s Alucart Sworb. This is an evolution route, so acquiring the base weapon alone does not satisfy the condition.
Charlotte Aulin
First unlock the Capra Gate by defeating Paranoia at the end of the Library. Then collect seven Mirrors of Truth. The gate and the item collection are both part of the documented chain.
Hector
Unlock the Scorpion Gate, associated in the guide with defeating Puppet Master, and collect seven Karma Coins. Treat the gate as a prerequisite rather than an optional shortcut.

Julius Belmont
Open the second coffin in the Ode to Castlevania map. Make sure you are searching the correct stage and coffin number; a coffin opened elsewhere will not satisfy this route.
Death
Play Richter Belmont and fight Death while using the fully evolved Clock Tower. The guide describes Clock Tower as an evolution of four mechanical weapons found in the Clock Tower area, so gather those components before attempting the encounter.
Master Librarian
Buy every item from the Master Librarian shop at least once. The guide says this can span multiple runs, making it a shop-completion route rather than a one-run spending threshold.
How to troubleshoot a failed unlock
The counter did not move
- Check whether the requirement is cumulative or single-run.
- Confirm that you used the named weapon, stage or character.
- Finish the run normally if the condition is evaluated at the end.
- Reopen Unlocks after returning to the main menu so the status refreshes.
The character says unlocked but is unavailable
Look for the gold purchase prompt. Many ordinary characters require that second action after the milestone is complete.
The coffin or gate is missing
- Verify the stage name and DLC ownership.
- Check Unlocks for an earlier boss, relic or gate prerequisite.
- Confirm that you are not following a route from a different game update.
A secret input did nothing
- Read the current Secrets hint again.
- Confirm the platform’s control mapping and keyboard layout.
- Check prerequisite characters and the timing window.
- Do not assume a code copied from an older guide still matches your version.
A practical completion checklist
- Record the game version and DLC packs installed.
- Review every visible entry in Unlocks and group each one as a counter, one-run target, stage object, weapon level, evolution, relic or boss objective.
- Mark cumulative counters separately from one-run requirements.
- For each DLC, enter its stage and resolve gates, coffins and named enemies in prerequisite order.
- After every milestone, check the character screen for a gold purchase.
- Open Secrets and work through hidden-character hints only after confirming controls and prerequisites.
- Use the Collection screen for collection-based characters, noting whether the requirement is base-game-only or includes the expansion.
- When an online list disagrees with the game, follow the installed build and treat the older list as historical guidance.
Why an online list cannot promise a permanent every-character total
Character references available for this game document many ordinary and secret procedures but do not establish a complete, current roster for every combination of base game, updates and DLC. Published lists also disagree about the roster size, without a verified explanation for the difference. That makes a universal number misleading: the correct total depends on the build, owned expansions and whether a list includes secret or other special characters.
For a genuinely exhaustive personal checklist, combine the entries shown in your own Unlocks and Secrets menus with the character pages for every DLC you own. Record the exact text and date of your build. This approach catches renamed requirements, newly added characters and changed controls that a static web list may miss.
